  1. So much this. If you're having problems with data corruption, it's not the game, it's not bioware, and it's not EA. That points, specifically to your computer as the problem. Though, probably not a slow computer. Speed has nothing to do with write errors. That points to hardware stability issues, which usually herald hardware failure in the future. Or maybe heat issues. When't the last time you cleaned out your computer case?
  2. Tanked that fight for the first time on my PT at around 34 with worse gear than you OP (I didn't get a group for boarding party until after I had completed the Foundry two or three times. Just luck of the draw). So long as you're poping CDs and facing HK away from the group so his flamethrower doesn't wreck them, any issues with you dying are the healer and DPS's fault. If you die before adds pop, it's a bad healer. If someone dies while adds are up, it's poor DPS. So long as nobody that isn't you dies in the HK dps phases, you're doing your job.
  3. By putting one person on class balance you get one person with perspective on everything. This approach has its advantages and disadvantages. By limiting class balance to one person, you eliminate miss-communication between developers. There's no one else to miss-communicate with. However, it means that a full pass will take longer Besides, he says that he's got support which, I'm guessing, means he's got a few people helping him model classes and run analysis grunt-work while he tries to solve an impossible puzzle.
  4. This is proof that Bioware can do nothing right. ...not because they're bad devs, or because they're owned by EA, or because it's a day that ends in 'y', but because this game has the most toxic forum community in gaming history.
  5. So you failed to notice the new talent tree structure. You clicked on a bunch of talents before reading them and understanding the changes. You wasted your talent points when you cannot respec for free. ...and this is somehow Bioware's fault? They owe you? No. Cry more.
  6. This is your first MMO. Isn't it? This is like a quarter of the changes in your average WoW patch, and a tenth of the changes that come around when the patch a major version (3.whatever-4.0, etc). No it's not too much.
  7. That's absolutely cheating. It's an exploit of an obvious bug. I hope they get de-leveled and suspended. Especially because, in order to do this, they had to know about the bug. And you're supposed to report bugs and not abuse them. However, building up tons of daily/weekly quests to turn in for xp the moment the level cap gets raised takes time. Which means this was a long exploited bug that was, most likely, never reported. This isn't just an "oops...I don't think it was supposed to do that" once off where you don't realize it's a bug until after the fact. This means they figured out the bug, held off on reporting it, and then knowingly abused it for a long period of time. If they're very lucky, they won't get banned.
  8. Okay, so every single patrolling warbot seems to have had a rocket strapped to it's butt. They're going WAY faster than before (I don't really mind this one. They were moving way too slow before. Still obviously not the intent). Last boss for us went down to 25% health before leaping to any turrets, and activated all three platforms at once. Please don't try to tell me that was intended. Also, the boarding party looks to be immune to CC on normal now. Not sure if bug because they also hit like sissies now. Personally, I preferred it when they hit harder but could be CCd. NOTE: All of this is on at-level normal mode. Not heroic.
  9. No. The tank is not the default group leader. Many tanks are the group leader, but it's not because they're the tank. It's because they choose to lead the group. The group leader can just as easily be a DPS or a healer. 99% of all planning and instructing happens out of combat. The requirements to successfully lead a group is knowledge of pulls and mechanics, the ability to explain said pulls and mechanics, and a way to make sure people are ready. The only necessary equipment is a mouse, a keyboard, and a brain. Not tanking gear, not a tanking spec. Leading a group has nothing to do with tanking. "Tanks are expected to know all the fight mechanics! That's why they lead!" Anyone who has DPSed AND Tanked before can tell you that tanking is really just DPSing, except that your awareness of mob position is reversed. Everyone should know all the mechanics. The only difference is which mechanics you need to pay attention to. "Tanks have the most responsibility! That's why they lead!" BS. Everyone is equally responsible in a flashpoint or OP, and nobody should be tunnel-visioned. Not even the DPS. If the tank doesn't do his job, the boss gets lose and everybody dies. If the healer doesn't do his job, the tank dies, the boss gets lose, and everybody dies. If the dps doesn't do his job, the boss enrages, the tank dies, the boss gets lose, and everybody dies. See a pattern here? The only reason the tank feels special is because there are generally less tanks overall. It's a job. Not a calling. Being tank only makes you as special as your spec and gear. It doesn't make you leader automatically.
  10. Would the retarded response to my post be coincidental? Or ironic? I mean, he illustrates the entitlement-driven huge-ego I expect of bad tanks to a T. When did people decide that tank = defacto leader? Tanks can run instances for the first time, just like anyone else can, and the last thing I want is to have to follow the directions of someone who doesn't know what the hell they're doing. Besides which, the idea that tank=leader is just insulting when you consider the fact that people play not only different characters, but different roles with the same character! My "tank" can turn into a "tunnel-vision monkey" -dps with a few clicks of my mouse very, very easily. But respeccing my toon does nothing to change the fact that I know most of the flash points cold. I'll just reiterate: Being the tank does NOT make you the leader. Leading the group makes you the leader.
  11. "Dying Cow" = second largest MMO in NA. Thanks for letting me know who I can ignore.
  12. Yay! The entitlement has started! Tanks aren't group leader. They're the tank. This goes double for TOR as compared to more traditional MMOs like WoW because the only reason you need a tank is for bosses. With DPS as capable of off tanking as they are, and because of how enemy scaling works, all Tanks really are most of the time is a DPS that walks through a pull in reverse order. Group leader is whoever wants to lead the group. If it's the healer, then you go when the healers tells you to. If it's a DPS, you go when the DPS tells you to. If you're the tank AND you happen to be the leader THEN (and only then) do you get to tell the rest of the group what to do. Not before, and most definitely not by default. Leading and tanking are two separate activities.
  13. I'd rather they retire Revan than see him turn into another Thrall. While they can bring him back as a force ghost, he can't do the same kind of damage overuse of Thrall has done to WoW.
  14. First, I would like to point out that I would rather write a compare and contrast paper than run quests on Taris. Can you please do something to make that planet not suck? Anyway... SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't run The Foundry empire-side, and don't want it ruined for you press the back button on your browser right now. Go on. I won't be offended (oh, and before you go "but The Foundry is so old! lol! Yeah. But there are always going to be new players that haven't seen it yet because of F2P, and it's honestly an awesome part of the overall KOTOR lore). Okay then... Revan vs. Thrall. Both are characters in video games. The two are very similar in terms of their origins as major characters in single player games, and have similar potential to be major story drivers in their respective MMOs. While Blizzard uses Thrall to shove story through, Bioware's chose to retire the character of Revan. This choice will allow Revan to maintain his respectful position in Starwars lore, while continually leveraging the character of Thrall has, instead, turned him into a toxic asset. Both were main characters in their own single player games. Thrall is a major character under the player's control in Warcraft 3, and had his own adventure game that, unfortunately, was canceled during development. Compared to Revan who was the main character of the first Knights of the Old Republic game. Both characters are now major NPCs in AAA MMOs. Thrall was previously the leader of the Hord faction in World of Warcraft, but was removed from his leadership position and made a "world NPC that belongs to both factions" (personal note: that idea failed. Hard. Thrall has way too much baggage to be anything other than a Horde NPC. Not to mention he's an Orc). Revan, OTOH, was a Republic hero who saved everyone in the republic in true Star Wars Heroic Fashion at the conclusion of KOTOR. Thrall is a major driver of story in the Warcraft universe. You can't swing a dead cat Horde-side and not hit something that references how important thrall is, or is related to something that thrall did or stands for. Revan, on the other hand, had a much larger single-player presence than Thrall did (Thrall's single player game was canceled during development leaving him with just WC3), but does not drive most of the story in The Old Republic. Thrall is a problematic character because of his ties to one faction over the other. While story is not nearly as front-and-center in WoW as it is in TOR, it's still pervasive enough that you can't help but see at least some of it. When Cataclysm was focused on the character of Thrall, it gave notice of one faction over the other. In a two faction game this creates an illusion of imbalance that, even if not there mechanically or mathematically, will persist through the morale of the faction that "chose wrong". While not having any kind of concrete impact on the game in the mechanical sense, it can and does create the feeling for people who are fans of said other faction that they are, in a way, unwelcome. Especially when they do not receive similar treatment (Varian gets air-time but nowhere near as much as Thrall. Whenever Varian does anything his flaws are emphasized; Meanwhile Thrall doesn't have any...etc) NOTE: A feeling of being "unwelcome" was the straw that caused me to finally quit WoW and not look back. So don't say it doesn't happen. Revan could have had the exact same impact on The Old Republic. With the history of the character combined with the previous emotional attachment created by a game that let you customize your character and make "your Revan" ,rather than using the one that was presented to you by Bioware (even though the TOR Revan is "the official Revan", the name will still carry over some of that emotional investment) the effectiveness of the character as a blunt object would have been even greater than that of Thrall. This kind of character being used as a means to drive story must be tempting, because they make story so easy. Just have the driver character do something and the galaxy must follow (see Cataclysm, especially the last two patches before Pandaria). Unfortunately, this kind of practice leads to story being forced on players rather than having players participate, and overall makes for a weaker story. I like to imagine how Cataclysm would have gone had thrall been killed, instead of shattered, leaving the fate of the world up to the players. Instead of keeping Revan around for a rainy day, he meets his end in The Foundry. The Revan fight is magically delicious with multiple mechanics and stages, topped off with a death speech!!! (One of the better ones I've heard, I might add.) Thank You Bioware for giving us the best end to a main character ever in a game, and not beating us over the heads with him.
