Seriously. I would love to equip duel pistols as my 'mando. Troopers, BHs, IAs, and Smugglers all should be able to equip pistols and rifles.

mercenary/commando: Generator, blaster pistol(dual wield), Assault Cannon/Sniper Rifle, blaster rifle.
GS/Sniper: Sniper Rifle/Dual Pistols, knife/scattergun, blaster rifle, blaster pistol.
Scoundrel/Op: blaster pistol, blaster rifle, scattergun/knife.
VG/PTs: Blaster Rifle, Blaster pistol, generator, shield.

Oh god, yes. My IA is begging for a pistol! He even has one in cut scenes...

That would create a nightmare. They would have to code multiple animations for every single ability. It would also mean that all tech classes would have cutscenes like the trooper where they pull out a little pistol instead of whatever weapon they have equipped. And of course that would mean that the animations for every single convo would have to be redone.

It would also wreck class identity. Troopers use rifles a pistol is just a emergency backup, there is no lore reason to have a pistol as a mainhand.

A smuggler wouldn't carry a blaster rifle. Smugglers are Civs and a rifle would draw all sorts of scrutiny from authorities that no smuggler would want.

No, BW would have to recode every single class phase for agent, smuggler, and bounty hunter.

Also the change would be fair to mercs and mandos. Mando's can't use rifles or pistols because the base mainhand damage is lower. Mercs can't use rifles for the same reason.

Umm... Easy fix.

-As someone pointed out, all tech classes take out a blaster in cutscenes. It would not require much time at all and would be met with much positivity from the community.
- Change it so both Blasters and Rifles do the same amount of damage and Snipers and Assault Cannons do the same amount of damage.

You realize that blaster pistols already have the exact same base damage has rifles. That's how operative and smuggler are balanced despite different weapons. And assault cannons, sniper rifles and double bladed lightsabers have the same base damage aswell.

But it doesn't make any sense for a sniper to use anything other than a sniper rifle. And a it wouldn't make sense for a professional soldier to be using a pistol. Smugglers certainly wouldn't use something as authority attention-grabbing as a full sized blaster rifle.

Also all the agent story scene where they are scoping down someone would look aweful with a pistol.

Would it be easier to do with companions?

I'm all for player and companion diversity, so I could support something like this.

Except many Agent cut scenes do show Snipers and Operative using Blaster Pistols instead of Blaster Rifles or Sniper Rifles. And it doesn't make sense for Operatives to use something as "attention-grabbing" as a full-sized Blaster Rifle, especially with a vibro-knife. And Blaster Pistol + Shotgun (for Scoundrels) isn't much less "authority attention grabbing" than Blaster Rifle + Shotgun.

The base Agent weapon *should* be a Blaster Pistol. That way, after choosing AC, everything would still make sense. For Operatives, dual-wielding Psitol + knife is more realistic than rifle + knife). For Snipers occasionally using pistols in cut-scenes, well, players would have used a Blaster Pistol for ten or so levels, and it makes sense that a Sniper might keep the Blaster Pistol as a back-up weapon. But for the Sniper to use a Blaster Rifle for the first ten or so levels and then occasionally use a Pistol which the character never saw makes the cut-scenes look broken.

It would be nice to at least give commandos a bowcaster option. I don't know about the dual pistols, but a bit more variation on the auto-cannon would be fun - how about a small discreet baby cannon
