Hello, everyone.

What I noticed is that some class forums are astonishingly empty -

- whereas others aren't that empty.

I wonder, why is this :

The facts, as far as I can see it, are this :

Smuggler 5,375 Total Threads, 58,394 Total Posts
Trooper 5,896 Total Threads, 59,074 Total Posts
Jedi Consular 6,425 Total Threads, 71,370 Total Posts
Imperial Agent 7,174 Total Threads, 85,968 Total Posts
Jedi Knight 7,551 Total Threads, 85,715 Total Posts
Bounty Hunter 7,570 Total Threads, 82,266 Total Posts
Sith Inquisitor 8,728 Total Threads, 88,066 Total Posts
Sith Warrior 8,778 Total Threads, 96,538 Total Posts

What does this mean ?

These numbers can be interpreted in two ways ( I say three, more about that later) :

- One "umbrella class" (like "Smuggler") is played by more people than another "umbrella class"
- One "umbrella class" is more difficult to play than another "umbrella class".

The third possible way of interpreting this data is like this :

- Both of the above - at the same time.

To look at it in closer detail :

Gunslinger 1,243 Total Threads, 13,546 Total Posts
Vanguard 1,587 Total Threads, 15,293 Total Posts
Commando 1,596 Total Threads, 18,722 Total Posts
Sage 1,749 Total Threads, 18,220 Total Posts
Scoundrel 1,830 Total Threads, 20,757 Total Posts
Sniper 1,870 Total Threads, 24,962 Total Posts
Mercenary 1,947 Total Threads, 23,575 Total Posts

Guardian 2,108 Total Threads, 24,694 Total Posts
Powertech 2,164 Total Threads, 24,807 Total Posts
Sentinel 2,266 Total Threads, 27,602 Total Posts
Operative 2,421 Total Threads, 32,407 Total Posts
Sorcerer 2,430 Total Threads, 26,180 Total Posts
Juggernaut 2,608 Total Threads, 28,154 Total Posts
Shadow 2,769 Total Threads, 31,435 Total Posts
Marauder 2,882 Total Threads, 38,043 Total Posts
Assassin 3,218 Total Threads, 35,179 Total Posts

As I said above, this can be interpreted in three ways :

- most popular / least popular
- most difficult / least difficult to play

and a combination from both :

- most popular & most difficult at the same time / least popular & least difficult at the same time.
- least popular & most difficult at the same time / most popular & least difficult at the same time

Why do I write this ? I do because I wonder (wonder, nothing more; please see this as a *neutral* sentence) whether this will affec t the Class Representatives thing, too.

One example, why I'm wondering is that "Mach 5 Massacred Guide" for the Marauder. I saw it yesterday for the very first time. What a great piece of work ! - Only, that I'll never ever play a Marauder within the next years, I'm relatively sure about that.

Result : "Why doesn't there exist such an extremely detailed guide for other classes as well ?"

I do know that there exist guides. Good guides.

But on the other hand : The sheer amount of questions might be able to evoke / provoke a higher number of Guides for a certain class.

And, if the sheer number of players for a certain class is higher, then this might as well result in a highe number of better players - sheer numbers, it's a mere Quantity thing right now - and thus in a higher number of Representatives. And in a higher number of Guides - and likely of good ones - , too.

This is, all in all, nothing but theory. Meta. But I thought that it'd be worthwhile to ponder this. (Philosophy was once a small hobby of mine.)

People share knowledge on tanking and healing because it can be complex.
But DPS just requires rolling your face back and forth in the keyboard.

Although the numbers in the class specific threads are opposite this logic so forget what I said.

Yes, but the Sage - which is often seen as a primarily Healer class - has a similar low number of threads/posts/discussions.

A similar thing goes for the Commando and the Scoundrel.

And, by the way, the Mercenary has a relatively low number, too. Looking at the "Healer classes".

eh the time frame of those posts has a lot of bearing on it though

I'm not sure the data is remotely relevant today.

It would be interesting to see some data on the activity of the relevant forums though, even if it were just to see which of the mirror class forums is the most active.

Yes, good point.
