So I am just finishing Makeb and am working on some of the daily quests. I've run into a brick wall trying to complete the quest 'Inciting Incident' and my google skills have not been able to find the answer to my problem.

I'm on the stage after I've armed the tank and need to spot the artillery camp bunker. I go to the location on the map, but the binoculars that I have for the quest never become usable (I get an error message saying something along the lines of they only work at the designated coordinates). I've moved all around the area to where the map says I need to use the binoculars, but I've not been able to get it to work. Anyone able to offer me some help/suggestions on how to complete this part of the quest?

Had the exact same problem once, the only solution I found was to abandon and restart the mission. Every other time I have done the mission there has been no problem

That seemed to fix it (was just able to complete the mission). Thanks for the advice!

Sometimes when this happens you can use your normal macrobinoculars to complete the quest. This solution doesn't always work for all quests though.

Still does not work. I tried the above, and no matter what I do, the Range Finder is always inactive.

Looks like yet another EA bug

I had that problem, and then after lots of swearing and blaming BIoware for incompetence, I discovered that I was trying to use the macrobinoculars that I was using to track the Shroud, not the set that was given to me for that specific mission, even after swearing blind to people in chat that I was using the correct macrobinoculars and that I was not a complete and utter retard.
Suffice to say, I was suitably embarrassed at my own mistake, and I would encourage you to make completely sure you are not doing the same thing
I am telling the truth, honestly! I am as honest as the day is long! Besides, I am a terrible liar, everyone can see when I am lying - my lips are moving.
Like most other subs, I have a Referral Link. Clicking it gets you some stuff, and me some stuff too.

As above - make sure you are using the proper binoculars. You may have picked up the GSI binoculars (and seeker droid) during Makeb, but there is probably another pair shown next to the quest's title in your mission tracker. So, make sure you are "tracking" the quest so that the binoculars show up on your screen next to the quest title, and use those binoculars.

Just to reinforce the point, Yes...This ^ Thank you, JediQuaker. As a result of your advice, I have a new appreciation for the mission tracker

I, too, was blaming Bio as well..turned out to be user error :P
