Cool. Then I very much hope we get to fight some young strong quick thin Hutts in the expansion. Would be different side of Star Wars than we usually see.

Their civilization stretches farther back than that of centralized human society, let alone the Galactic Republic. Before 15,000 BBY the Hutts owned an immense, militarized, empire.

It was the Hutts Lord Kossak and General Boonta the Hutt who opposed and defeated Xim the Despot before the foundation of the Republic. They utilized hordes of slave armies, stolen technologies, improvised munitions, etc.

It was only in the aftermath of a major Hutt Civil War in 15,000 BBY known as the Hutt Cataclysm that the species shifted towards a more concentrated system of influence peddling to avoid internecine genocide.

Hutt Space is likely the longest lasting civilized empire in the galaxy, older than the Republic, older than the Jedi Order.

Throughout history they have utilized influence peddling to maintain their neutrality.
Not even Emperor Palpatine's post-Yavin Imperial Navy considered it viable to invade Hutt space, while the Hutts themselves paid Palpatine a tribute annually that was worth something on the order of a few thousand Star Destroyers to maintain the peace.

In short, the Hutts are some of the most powerful and influential groups in galactic history.

They even re-launched a major military force to counter the Vong invasion and took part in the Second Galactic Civil War.

Do not mess with the's not a good idea.
This is great information and explains a lot! Thanks!

OK, here is the REAL reason, but only one of the following is TRUE..

#1. At one point in their evolutionary history they had the ability to shoot lasers from their eyes. It became so well known that nobody dared defy them again. Eventually through lack of use, they lost the ability to shoot lasers from their eyes but never told anybody.

#2. Hutt farts are highly noxious and often deadly, just barely beating out Wookiee farts. Hutts fart only when threatened or when poorly entertained. The reason that Leia was able to get close and kill Jabba was due to the amount of time she spent around Chewy and naturally built up a tolerance to noxious farts. I mean, just look at her facial expression as she kills Jabba and tell me she's not trying to resist the deadly odor.

That really changes how and why you make investments and how you view non-hutt 'allies'.
The species is capable of great physical strength but respect laziness, hard work is considered "beneith" a Hutt with any sense of class. They also view themselves as a superior race of beings. Their unethical behavior, isn't considered unethical by the Hutts themselves, it's considered the right of a superior race. They've built a large empire with slave labor and deceptive business practices. They're pretty evil creatures in other words, their motivation is the collection of personal power through wealth, as oposed to the Sith doctrine of collecting power through the master of the darkside. Where the Sith are driven by all their passions to achieve selfish goals, the Hutts are a society driven only by greed.

Hutts are the subtle way Lucas found to criticize capitalism without being outright labeled as a commie friend during the RL Cold War.

There isn't much explanation, Lucas just wanted the most greedy and profit-loving beings in the galaxy to be fat blobs.
