Massive fps drops (hdd related)

For some time, I'm having huge fps drops. By huge, I mean from 60 fps (VSync on) to what appears to be less than 1.
I've tried EVERYTHING (full system reinstall included), but didn't manage to fix it. I did however, manage to track down the cause - it seems that everytime this lagspike occurs (and it occurs every 5-10 minutes), swtor.exe is sending ~8 million(!!!) I/Os to my hdd. It's not related to any area, number of other players in the vicinity, nor graphics settings.
Please help, it's REALLY killing my experience

I've ruled out the obvious stuff:
- Bad Sectors (chkdsk found nothing)
- Outdated firmare (It's updated to the newest version)
- All drivers for motherboard, gpu etc. are the newest versions
- It's NOT a malwave/virus etc.
- It's NOT caused by Anti-Virus software
- It's NOT a broken HDD (did a benchmark for ~1h, nothing out of the ordinary, results were fine)
- It's NOT a broken port on the motherboard (tried connecting the hdd to a different one)
- It's NOT caused by overheating (I'm monitoring the temperatures constantly)
- I've measured the amperage and voltage on everything in my pc during full load and it's fine.

CPU: Phenom II 1055t (6 cores), 2,8 GHz
GPU: gtx 580 (1,5 gig version)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 (1 TB version)

I have the same problems and same specs as you (only that I have 8 GBs or RAM) and I also have this issue, mainly in fleet and WZs. Looking forward to a helpful response from Bioware.
