so is there a specific channel on chat that is solely for RP..or one that can be used for one? me and a buddy want to do some RPing and all the regular channels are too busy for us to keep up with whats said.

Sure. /say is a range-limited channel used (mostly) for IC chat. Additionally, /e can be used for custom emotes (with the format "/e {text}" becomes "<Your character's name> {text}").

There's also custom chat channels you can create and join using the /cjoin {channel name} command, if you want a more private setting without making a group.

  • With Biochem skill, you can make, and use, reusable medpacs, stims and adrenals. I don't play end game but have heard rumblings that since 3.0 there are no more reusables for 55+. But, level 1-55 reusables are alive, well, and vey useful.

  • Strongholds have 'legacy storage', which work exactly like a characters cargo hold, but, with the added bonus that the legacy storage is shared across characters on the same server.

  • For relatively minimal cost, Strongholds can be pimped out with a mailbox, GTN, cargo hold and legacy storage locker making them your 'go to' place to buy & sell from the GTN, also mail stuff between characters. Strongholds also have multiple 'quick travel' options between wherever you are and fleet or your ship.

  • Collections - once you have an item in your 'collection', copies of it can be claimed for free (or minimal one time cost) for any and all characters on your server. This applies to lvl 10 +41 crystals (amazing), speeders, weapons, armor, emotes, etc. Buy something once, make copies for free for all of your alts all day long.

You don't need to use a mod station. You can add and remove mods from your moddable items, by ctrl+left clicking them, anywhere.

I see so many people asking where a mod station is..

Need Mod Station to add The augmentation slot that is only unlock able there.....

If you get Jawa junk in a pack, you don't have to wait for the timer to end to place it in storage, and you don't need to be concerned about the "these items are bound" message that appears when you want to stack the new Jawa junk with the old. Just transfer the junk to any free slot in your storage (cargo, legacy) and then drag and drop the new pile onto the old.

This also applies to other items.

I just found out myself that Legacy Storage can hold any BOE items (I thought only items that were "Bound to Legacy" could do so).

That was exciting

I just recently discovered that you don't need to be "in range" of a gathering node to get your companion to harvest it. That is, if you right-click on a node that is "greyed out" because it's out of your range, your companion will still run to it, get in range and harvest it.

And another thing that someone pointed out in another thread:

You don't need to spend the CC to unlock colour crystals or tunings in Collections. Just put the crystal or tuning into a Legacy weapon, transfer the weapon to another character and extract it. Once extracted it becomes unlocked for that new character, and you can get all the copies you want. You can put the crystal and/or tuning back into the BoL weapon and put it back into Legacy storage to use on the next character.

(Note - this may be a "bug" and not a "feature", so it's subject to change.)

Returning player after a few years. What are some of the perks of the Galactic Strongholds? Just cosmetic and fun player housing? I have one, but I have no idea why its good or what to do with it.

To add to what chaferwalk posted...

Another benefit is that if you are leveling a character on a planet and need to clear out inventory space by throwing things in a cargo hold by or by listing things on the GTN, you can hop to your Stronghold, and one of the options when exiting the Stronghold is to go right back to the point you teleported from.

Guild ships have the same function.

Wow! I never expected this thread to get so popular - thanks for all the tips, folks, and keep them coming.

I've updated my original post here with some of the juicier little tidbits you've all put together, but with lack of space I haven't been able to get them all in. Good job so far!

Questing

  • Escaping from a conversation before it's done allows you to redo pesky moral choices.
  • Galactic Republic and Sith Empire characters can communicate, but only in local (/say).
  • There's an 'Exit Area' button above your minimap when you're in a flashpoint - you don't have
to run all the way back to the exit, or quick-travel.
  • There are commendation vendors for each planet (aside of Quesh) in your fleet supplies area;
they sell the same gear as on the planets.
  • Closing a quest reward window causes a little "Pending Rewards" pop-up on the upper right of the screen.

UI

  • Turn on 'area loot', and 'auto-loot' in your preferences menu to make looting much easier.
  • Hitting Ctrl+U twice in a row can solve mose UI issues.
  • You can click on stairwells/entranceways on the map to browse through them.
  • When you enter the chat you can use up and down arrows to scroll trough and reuse what you already have written.
  • Alt+f to set a focus target then Ctrl+f to target focus target's target.
  • Your focus target will seemingly clear after any conversation, but if you hit your focus swap button twice real quick with nothing targetted, it should reassign your focus to your previous focus target.
  • Going into 'Preferences' and then 'Controls' you can change the max camera distance.
  • You can split stacks by shift-left-clicking and dragging a stack to a new, empty bag spot.
  • You can also buy many copies of an item from a vendor the same way.
  • Ctrl+shift+F = Show your frame rate, in small numbering on the lower left side of your screen.
  • There's a button at the top-level of the mailbox window to loot all items and credits from mail.

Companions

  • Each companion has a codex entry that discusses their personality and stats.
  • You can use the N key to get your companion window open on your ship. If you want a different companion you can use the arrows next to their name to scroll through them. This way you can outfit your companions without summoning them.
  • When your companion wants to talk 'somewhere private', you can talk to them in a cantina
(and likely any designated Rest Area). You only need to go to your ship when it says 'on your ship'.
  • You can revive a companion more quickly by simply dismissing and resummoning him. You can heal one quickly by mounting your vehicle and dismounting.
  • In the preferences, you can enable the tooltip comparison for equipment/gear for your active companion so you can compare an item to your active companion's gear in addition to yours.
  • You can expand a companion's ability bar (default key `) - to see what abilities they're using.
Disable any area-effect abilities like grenades by right-clicking their green check boxes away if
you don't want them to break crowd-control abilities you're using.

Space Combat

  • Press space to do a barrel roll.
  • To fire proton torpedos, hold your targetting reticule on a target for several seconds till it gets a special icon.
  • You can fly around using BOTH keyboard and mouse. Helps navigating while shooting.
  • Make sure to check the spaceship upgrades vendors on the fleet. In particular, don't forget to buy the power converter unit for 30 fleet commendations as early as possible! It lets you switch between greater shield regeneration and much more powerful blasters.
  • In space combat, hold the right mouse button down to "paint" multiple targets, release and fire
  • multiple missiles at multiple targets simultaneously.
  • While firing lasers, your shields do not recharge. Take a break using missiles for a while to help
  • your shields recharge faster.

Crafting

  • You can craft by using materials in your cargo, i.e. no need to have it take up space in inventory.
  • You can queue up to 5 crafted items per companion.
  • Reverse-engineering a crafted item gives you a chance of learning an improved version of the schematic.
  • Cancelling a crafting mission will get your mats back, or your money. It's actually an awesome way to 'withdraw' items from the bank, because the crafting materials can come from your bank, but are returned to your inventory.

Transportation

  • You can use the Emergency Fleet Pass to instantly teleport to the Republic/Imperial Fleet from anywhere. It's in your skill box in general tab.
  • If you have a security key, there's a security key vendor on the Fleet that will sell you fleet passes with one hour cooldowns for 1000 credits.
  • Higher levels of speeders can take more hits before you get dismounted by attacks.
  • The /stuck command seems to work by teleporting you back a few steps, so it's actually useful
  • for more than just being stuck (especially when Datacron collecting).
  • Using a shielding ability such as Static Barrier helps absorb 'hits' from monsters while you're on your speeder.

Miscellaneous

  • The GTN terminals on the fleets are faction specific, but the one on Nar Shadaa can be browsed by any character.
  • Searching the /who window by 'LFG' will let you show everyone in the game using the system.
  • There are 3 datacrons on the starter worlds, and five on each beyond that. Datacrons are hidden objects which give stat boosts.
  • If you have a piece of orange-quality gear you like the look of, you can continually upgrade it's mods to keep being able to wear it into high levels. You can even strip mods from other items, and put them in your favorite orange gear. Ctrl+rightclick on an orange-quality item to bring up the modification interface.
  • Dueling can be useful! You can leap or be pulled by friends to locations, say, for getting unstuck or finding datacrons.
  • Female characters have a bit of a bonus, because there's four dress pieces of modifiable gear available on Coruscant - light armor - that male characters can't wear. Awesome especially as it's a long time before you can find another hat!

Cheers. I'll keep updatin'!

Awesome Thanks for the help :)

Returning player after a few years. What are some of the perks of the Galactic Strongholds? Just cosmetic and fun player housing? I have one, but I have no idea why its good or what to do with it.

A stronghold also makes for some quick and easy travel options.

Press "U", go to your stronghold, then click the exit button.

This will allow you to exit to the fleet, your ship, the planet that the stronghold is on, or to go back to where you were.

Note that if you enter your stronghold while on the stronghold's planet you will get an "exit to" and "return to" option.

The "return to" will put you back wherever you were. In the casino? You'll go back to the casino.

The "exit to" option will put you at the stronghold selection board on the planet, so in the case of Nar Shadda that will take yo to the Promenade.

This Is in addition to what others have mentioned about banks, mail, vendors, cargo, and the GTN.

There are also harvesting nodes that can be placed into a stronghold for some free gathering every 4 hours per character.

They'll start you out with some tier 1 nodes for free, but you can get higher level nodes.

These nodes do not require any skill to access. Whatever character can harvest whatever the node has to offer. Might be one time, might be several before the lockout timer appears.

My suggestion is to get a neutral stronghold and have some fun with it.

Certainly put the "essentials" in: Legacy cargo, personal cargo (just need 1. It will be the personal cargo of whichever character is logged on at the time), mail box, GTN terminal, and at least a slicing node.

After that, just decorate it with whatever you like.

Yeah, it will cost some credits to buy decorations, or CCs to get decorations through cartel packs or direct from the market, and there are even some that you can buy with crafted items, but there's no rush.

I just think that a decorated stronghold is more fun to look at than an empty one, and if you get into conquests later then a full and fully decorated stronghold will help you out.

The "return to" will put you back wherever you were. In the casino? You'll go back to the casino..

This is only true if you haven't logged out of the character. If you've logged out, you will be returned to the same point you'd be at if you "travelled" to the planet.

For example, if you leave the Casino on Nar Shadaa and travel to your Stronghold, and then log out, when you log back in; "return to" will take you to the Nar Shadaa spaceport, not the Casino.
