He's wearing some parts of the blue animated Kell Dragon gear (helmet, belt, boots, gloves and also the canon) which droped in NIM mode from patch 2.2. Black-Purple crystals USED to drop in hard mode/Nightmare (Veteran and Master now, I guess) Explosive Conflict, and could be RE'd for the schematic. I don't know if they even still drop, and if they do, they can't be RE'd - other black-core drops, such as Black-Orange from Terror From Beyond can't be RE'd anymore. Crafted crystals can't, either.
