I know at one point there used to be a limit on how many personnel, companions, or other "people" type objects you could place, is this still the case? if so what is it?

When strongholds were first introduced, there was one shared limit of 25 for personnel, companions and pets.
That was changed very quickly to the way it is now, where the limit only applies to "interactable" NPCs
(i.e. companions, vendors, and a handful of pets (the glowing ones and one of the promotional droids)

Just tested it - the limit is still 25 and it's still shared by companions, vendors and selectable pets, but since the vast majority of personnel decorations and pets can't be selected and thus are excluded from that limit it isn't really noticeable, unless you want to place all your post-KOFE companions in a stronghold.
6.0: Do not add that gaudy flashing icon above every vendor's head without an option to turn it off.
Let us sort our companion list and hide or kick out the unwanted ones!

There are still a number of non-vendor personnel decos that count toward the 25 NPC limit. Master Gnost-Dural, Don the Exile Knight, Life Day Reveler, the Dramath, Valkorian and Vaylin holos, for example.

First, thanks for the replies.
So, if im understanding this correctly, if i wanted to do a small platoon of soldiers, or have a variety of Mandalorian guards it wouldnt count against the limit.
Bar or Casino patrons and other non interactive would not count. missions and such.
Most of those found in the imperial or republic personnel deco packs would not count.
Basically unless its interactive, it doesnt count against the 25?
companions always count?
Am i about right on this?

Yeah. I have two very populated casinos (Nar Shaddaa and Rishi Carrier) and every available creature pet on Yavin, and haven't run into the limit without deliberately testing it out.

A npc-type deco only counts to the limit when you can select it as target.

The reason is that there are server-side calculations done for selectable NPCs (aoe, los, friend / foe etc.) that could cause server-wide problems when too many of them happen simultaneously in small areas with up to 50 players.

NECRO incoming....
So Yea, what's the deal with the small personnel and companion decoration cap? You can't properly form a platoon at 25 lol. There is no love for strongholds any more. I feel neglected But seriously, do they even know there's a SH forum? Do they at least acknowledge we exist? They must, right? They keep selling shinies on the Cartel Market so WTfrack!

Some sort of performance issue, if memory serves. A platoon of non-interactive troops is fine because they don't count against the limit. A platoon of companions and vendors is not fine, obviously.

I hope they address it. I'm sure it occurred to them after we got a boat load of companions that we might want to place them in our strongholds. Like "still pictures in time", placing comps in mock scenarios brings life to stronghold.
