And here is the one of the reasons why this kind of MMO will always fail. You cannot please both PvE and PvP crowds at once, it is impossible. As a game designer you need to choose who you are making your game for and stick to that decision. The more you want to mix PvE and PvP the more you are going to alienate both populations.

Some day that lesson will be learned eventually.

Well, if you dont like pvp the problem is yours. We cant have always pve events dude...

Im a pvp player and finally we have a nice pvp Event ! ;)

It - is - not - a - PvP - event. The only rewards are empty gear, titles and pets (nothing PvP about it).

It is just a PvE event (mobs to kill, bosses to kill, so far I saw no quest requiring to kill X players) in a PvP area. That doesn't make it a PvP event.

Lord, events have to be new and unique and have a slightly different flavour. We can't have the rakghoul event over, and over, and over...

I also don't think everyone is entitled to a title or gear. That mentality is actually what diminishes the game and I sigh whenever I see people dressed the EXACT same way on fleet.

So if you want everything out of this event (remember, only some of the quests require PVP) prepare yourself for it with the FREE GEAR YOU GET AT 50 and make yourself useful in a group. Literally, you can complete every quest associated with this event with 2 people. Go SLIGHTLY outside your comfort zone.

And if you don't want to do the above, I specifically with every fibre of my being hope you don't get the gear or titles or anything associated with the event (because you'll have done nothing).

P.S. It becomes a PVP when a PLAYER attacks (VERSUS) another PLAYER. Stop making up ludicrous definitions.

There are no pvp missions there bold or not bold.... only pve ones in an area which encourages pvp to a certain degree.

Why is EA/ bio ware forcing non pvpers to pvp for legacy bound weapons.??

You dont see non pvpers complaining about that you cant get pvp gear from pve areas. Furthermore pvpers have the elite war-hero gear which is the same as the black hole/dread guard is for non pvpers?

So why force non pvpers into an area that is specific to pvp for legacy bound gear ?

OK rant is over but seriously why ? ?

would it have been so hard for them to put the pvp missions in pvp area and put some pve missions in a pve area so both sides of the coin are happy pvpers and non pvpers ? Then by keeping the rewards the same for both sides one side doesn't out weight the other in rewards offered ?

It is a pvp focused event they tried (and failed as i predicted) to revive illum pvp. Though I do agree they couldve placed some pve missions that help progress towards the gear out of pvp areas in order to include those who hate PvP. Even if it is a PvP event.

Overall I like the event for reasons bw didn't intend.

My community on my server came together and made this event fun!? Yet again the community fixes what BW breaks... *cough wpvp, rp etc...*cough*

But overall it gives me reason to go to illum for some semi interesting gear, fights, rp... yadda yadda. Though I don't like the same faction fighting.

LOL this is funny ;)

its not do able when you have groups of pvpers that camp areas that are needed to complete some of the missions so when you go into the area you click on the thing for the mission and during your combat you have 4 or more groups just sitting there waiting for you to hit them then they jump you cause you use an aoe on your target that flagged you up and then you die almost instantly being raped by multiple people

forcing people to do pvp in order to do pve content on a pve server is what the problem is. DUH!!!

This is why. We made our charactors on pve servers for a reason, stop making us pvp to make the pvp population happy,is this so they can have new fresh meat to play with?. whats next, pvp folks will start charging to get an escort to the mission?

Its really not PVP on a PVE server.

Just don't AOE..

The forum sounds like a bunch of 5 year olds getting PVP flagged because they were AOEing a enemy.

Funny thing I said once I got onto SWTOR yesterday morning before all the people realized the servers were up, "All the people are probably too busy complaining on the forums"

Your not required to do the PVP aspect of these quests.

If you get PVP flagged because of an AOE, well then thats your fault.

If you don't like not getting reputation from PVP events, get another character and re-do the quests on him for more reputation. You people gotta realize not everyone is going to get reputation the same rate, so quit complaining like your missing some important aspect of the game.

A PvP mission is:

- Kill X players (!)

- Capture and hold a place for a given amount of time while everyone knows that you are here

and so on.

There's none of these. The only one quest I consider PvP is the orb thing, which is a kind of CTF. The rest is all about killing mobs or getting drops from mobs, that's PvE. The area you are playing in doesn't make a quest PvE or PvP, in that case on a PvP server every quest would be considered a PvP quest. A quest itself is PvP or PvE, period. The area has no consequence on it.

Just because BioWare says it is PvP doesn't mean it is. Heck none of these quests give valor, I think that says a lot.

I really wish we wouldnt have a new thread about this every 10 mins ...

here are some facts you ALL have ignored and are causing alot of this issue.

the quote says nothing about pvp at all

where in all of that does it say PVP?

NO WHERE ... .let me explain what it DOES say

1) the foes we are facing are either Gree or enemies of the Gree

2) It takes place on the planet of illum in a new area called "Ilum's Western Ice Shelf" like section X or BlackHole

3) Both republic and Imperials will have access to this same area like black hole and section x

4) both republic and imperials will have different looks and named tech to encourage cross faction involvement

5) Bioware has stated MANY TIMES that people will NEVER BE FORCED TO PVP ... even in the HK parts issue you dont have to pvp ... you just have to run to the vendor buy the thing and leave.

finally ... PVPers have to really start thinking with there heads and not with there epeen. The majority of players in this game have no interest what so ever in PVP. The majority rules when it comes to MMO companies cause they dont care if they lose the minority cause there spots can always be filled with more of the majority.

As someone who hates PVP ... and does it quite a bit anyway for PVE gear and crafting matts... I can tell you no one is going to buy recruit gear for a freaking Event. No one is gonna PVP just cause there is an event ... no one is gonna love this game more for being ganked cause sorry to say even with recruit gear your not going to achieve objectives against people in full warhero unless the objective is to die alot.

WAKE THE HELL UP .... stop trolling ... stop being ignorant to the truths of this game .... and please realize for petes sake that PVP is not the be all and end all of this game..... PVE is ... sorry to say.

Without a doubt, thread of the year!

In a way bioware is forcing people to pvp.

Now hear me out. One of the rewards most people are trying to get is the legacy bound lightsabers and other legacy bound weapons. Now this would be fine if they were only used in wz's and open world pvp but they are also usable by non pvpers as well so how is that not making people pvp for gear ?

Because you don't really need to do any PvP. The weekly limit on rep is low enough that you can max it out by doing all the PvE content. By doing the 4 PvE missions every day, the SM Xenoanalyst and 1 world boss each week you can get over the 12k rep/week limit with 1 character.

If you have 2 characters of an appropriate level (I did the 3 non heroic PvE dailies with my 48 Inquisitor with no problems) you can do it on just the PvE dailies.

You wrong. You dont need to di those quests to get the next pve content. And the quests rewards are not pve content, or pvp for that matter, they are social gear can be used for anything.

No one is forcing you to do nothing.

Put everything in an area where both factions have access and its instantly no longer a PvE event but a PvP event. Of course with the rewards that you can buy its still not a PvP event, you don't even get valour.

If they had put this event in with 1 simple change that you did not autoflag at all then on a PvP server it would have been a PvP event and on a PvE server it would have been a PvE event with optional PvP.

This made me lol...

How about where it says "Explore Ilum's contested area in the Western Ice Shelf to uncover the mysterious purpose of the Gray Secant, an enormous ancient Gree starship." What does contested mean to you? Scripted PvE fights? Do you not know what the west shelf is?

Or perhaps from the state of the game dev blog?

Topic #2: World PvP – What happened to making Ilum better? What is going on with Open World PvP? Answer: We have not forgotten Ilum! I think you will see (fairly soon) the answer to this question in the game itself - something big is coming to the Western Ice Shelf, but it’s quite a departure from what was there before. As for pure Open World PvP…well, that’s a more difficult proposition. We are dedicated to providing excellent PvP experiences to our players, but we intend to focus our energy on PvP Seasons and new Warzones. We will be experimenting with a different approach to Open World PvP, something that encourages organic PvP in contested areas in a new and interesting way, but do not look for massive new Open World PvP this year (outside of what I mentioned above). It is still on our design wall, but is taking a back seat to other forms of PvP.

Did you see where it says western ice shelf? gree event? How about where once again it says "organic PvP in CONTESTED AREAS hmm textual comprehension skills these days.

I won't even speak on your farming mats from pvp. thats a different topic together
