Please Remove Tank, DPS and Heal

Its,..2013 and I think we all can agree something needs to change. I am talking about the old, worn out and tired system of Tank, DPS, and Heal. It really is obsolete in this day and age,...everyone...EVERYONE no matter what class you are ....wants to beat on the bad guy,..they want to slay,..ok.....they don't want to follow rules in fights...they just want to beat on stuff and watch stuff die

 

This notion that you have to have dps, heal and tank in fights is old school...it's past its time

 

Ask anyone...ANYONE...and they will tell you...they just want to Tank n Spank and get hell outta there and collect the commendations. In and Out..simple..fast and done

 

As it is now,...what do people do in flashpoints? Lol...they skip trash and go directly to Boss and kill for the phat lewt. Spacebar commandos and don't you dare listen to the story...rush to the Boss...get your objective and done

 

Dps fights stuff that the tank isn't even fighting ROFL...healer is healing the dps'rs instead of the tank ROFL...tank is has no clue what aggro is ROFL.....i mean it is total chaos in mmo gaming now days. It is rare to find a coordinated group in traditional tank, heal and dps roles working like a swiss watch

 

Recommendation:

1. Give everyone a natural heal buff over time duration

2. Give everyone heavy armor

3. Give everyone an equal amount of dps

4. Get rid of need and pass and make all loot drop particular to your class and automatically go into your inventory

 

If you disagree with this post....see the thread titled....Don't Get Discouraged by Jerks in Pug's, FP's and Op's. I am offering a solution to eliminate jerks in mmo's,..well no way to totally eliminate jerks but you get the idea

Not disagreeing with you and yet not agreeing with you either. But you cant use the term TANK N SPANK when trying to get the trinity removed. The term TANK N SPANK means to have someone TANK a boss and others kill it. I personally hate DPS. I love healing and tanking. I could careless about how much damage I put out or to just whack on a boss until its dead.

 

So your idea that EVERYONE wants to be the same cookie cutter class is an illusion you have in your own mind about the trinity.

Ok than what do think a game should be than? The regen crap dont work go look at DCuonline.

 

It to funny when people say to get rid of tank,heal, dps aspect. All the areas will be simple dps PEW PEW easy peasy boring MMO...Wasnt that anarchy online?

I really like the Trinity-less Guild Wars 2, whenever I feel like go PvPing, I log out SWTOR and log in GW2.

 

I also really like the dungeons there.

 

 

However, I hate leveling there, this game hands down has the best leveling/eusting experience of all MMO.

 

 

So, if they adapted GW2's combat mechanics into this game it would be the ultimate game for me.

 

Not happening though :(

This would require a redesign not only of every class and every spec, but every dungeon and every raid.

 

Yes, the trinity feels old, especially the tanking aspect, but realistically this would require a whole new game. And there are games out there (GW2) that do this.

Your idea is old. Like year 2002 old. The idea of universal class, self-sustained, equal damage opportunities already exist in Runescape. I suggest you go play Runescape, it's still around and millions of people still play it (I think...). It only cost 5 dollars a month, so you will love it there.

They tried this in Guild Wars 2. Guess what the biggest complaint is in the game?

 

Lack of dedicated roles.

 

The game is too revolutionary for those close-minded players.

 

GW2 has pretty much hundreds of different, almost equally effective and creative ways to win fights, people are just lazy to think out of the box. They want the same square and boring trinity system where the game tells them what to do, so they don't have to bear with the responsability of their choices along the fights.

 

I mean, a tank will tank, no matter the situation. In GW2, you have to do what the group needs in the fight, be it mitigating damage, buffing allies, moving, etc etc.

well, your actually wrong.

 

I am part of anyone, and I don't always want to beat on the mob and just go. I often like controlling the mob and position them and keeping them off of other party members as a tank. the responsibility of maintaining threat against a group of DPS that are just pewpewing without a thought can be fun. It can also be irritating when the pewpews dont understand threat. but it's fun enough that I still enjoy this. And I often love sitting back and keeping people alive with heals, knowing that im the reason they're still alive. and there are times I just want to turn my brain off and do damage. which is why I like to do all 3.

 

It really sounds like your one of those guys that just wants to turn his brain off and do damage. gratz. nothing wrong with that. but don't ruin the game for those of us who actually like to think.

Good idea, why not do away with classes as well? Since this is Star Wars just make Jedi and Sith with the 3 trees being 1 handed, dual wield and double bladed. Win Win Win

Actually I found that in GW2 it just meant eveyone zergs forward, then waits for a rez when they die.

 

I kept waiting for something different but that is all that happened in the dungeons and in pvp and in events. Just big mobs of people running around spamming. It was actually quite rediculous, and I couldnt bring myself to play once I had my main toon geared out in the best gear.

 

GW2 ended up showing me how awesome the trinity, and SWTOR, really is. It promotes teamwork.

I'd say if anything they need to add more roles in this game, not remove them

 

There's a very limited number of "added" roles that can be given out in a video game like this. Crowd Control, Buffing, Debuffing, and then you get into even more ancillary things like raid management, target marking, main assist, off tanking, and after that it's even more ancillary, like knowing the solution to in-game puzzles and oddball stuff like that.

 

Damage. Healing. Holding the enemy's attention. And distracting other enemies. That's it. That's combat in these games.

 

Not much can be added.

Not Everyone! And you clearly didn't ask me, or many other people in this community...

 

I quite like healing, in fact I prefer healing to "[beating] on the bad guy," I plan on leveling a healer in each of the classes, I'm also going to level a few tanks because I like playing support roles and I'd like to get a better understanding of them (the people I normally heal with my healer characters)

 

By the way... any higher level players will be sick of repeating the same content over and over again, hence the mentality of 'get in and get out asap', that's what you get with people who are grinding, not to mention few people these days want to spend ages doing something when they can take shortcuts and have it over and done with quickly :p (provided that the 'shortcuts' don't cause more trouble than they're worth...)

Horrible idea.

 

I played GW2 and it's total crap because it lacks roles. But that's not the whole story. It isn't that simple. With the lack of roles also comes the lack of tactics and mechanics. GW2 has maximum 5 people in a team. Anything bigger is zerging without being in a party. This is because of the lack of roles and mechanics.

It can be fun to rush in and all be dps with some support but it gets boring fast. Also the world is pretty but the stories are bad and the leveling is indeed boring.

 

I don't need SWTOR to turn into a joke. You think I exaggerate about GW2 being a joke?

I'll stick to lightsabers and tactics rather than zerging and shooting rainbow unicorns.

Not that useful in this game's fights.

 

2. Give everyone heavy armor

 

Shadows and Assassins do just fine tanking in light armor. So this isn't even needed.

 

3. Give everyone an equal amount of dps

 

That makes your game more simplified, less complex and the fights even more boring.

This has nothing to do with the trinity or combat mechanics. Why is it even part of your post when your complaint is about class roles? Heck the suggestion goes against your overall point. If you're homogenizing the game to the point that class becomes obsolete, then you can no longer attempt to code loot to "automatically go into your inventory" for a particular class. You just got rid of the class system.

 

EDIT: I feel this needs a bit more clarification. In the OP, the poster wants to basically make it so everyone can tank, heal or DPS. Which creates an environment where everyone can have a NEED for an item that is tailor made for a tank, a healer or a DPS. So the loot issue is made worse, not better. The OP suggests getting rid of the classes, and then wants to limit who gets drops based on a particular role that everyone in the OP's new system now SHARES.

 

It can't work.

 

Your solutions don't really do much for evolving the game. If yuo just want to churn through enemies like butter, why not go play a first person shooter or something?
