Well things are going good for my Gunslinger, and my friend who plays and I have decided that once we hit 50 on our Republic guys, we wanted to try the Imperial classes.

 

Please note: This will be after Patch 1.2, probably won't make it from 20-50 by 1.2 (I believe its in like early April, so still probably won't hit 50 before then). If on the off chance I do, (and my friend does as well) I'd like to take into consideration all the nerfs/buffs that Patch 1.2 will bring for the two classes I'm thinking of making below.

 

I'm kinda stuck mainly between the Powertech BH and Sniper IA. I have played a bit of each, and like both. The IA's story (and definitely that sweet ship) are both great, but the BH story is really nice to (but I've heard the ships not the greatest looking thing, and for me thats a slight thing, but a nice ship is always nicer). The IA would be very similar to my Slinger, which is good because it's familiar territory, but bad because idk if it would feel to repepitive/the same as slinger later on. The story is whats really keeping me in, but the BH story is also great.

 

So, which one is better in terms of:

DPS

PvP

PvE

Story and Companions (in your opinions)

Damage dealer

Easier to play and train/Less difficult to "master"

 

I'm assuming they would level at roughly the same rate. My friend said he might wanna try a Sniper too, but we don't do story quests together just the extra quests that everyone can do.

Why not Operative instead of Sniper then? Option to spec for healing, same story as a Sniper, stealth is fun(especially if its a PvP server), and you get to giggle. Unless you wanted a ranged DPS, but you mentioned Powertech which is melee so...

I have a level 50 Powertech (Shield) and a level 20 Sniper (um, been awhile since I played, the first tree that gives the sniping bonuses).

 

The biggest insight I can give is that the Sniper feels a lot slower in combat as most of the abilities you will use on a regular basis have activation times, all be it with a heafty burst damage when it does hit. As long as Kalyio is tanking well you get to sit back behind cover and deal the damage. For regular and weak mobs I tend to lob in a grenade and then run around with the shiv and blast attack to mop up the survivors for a nice change in pace.

 

The Powertech with the shield specialisation and Mako as companion just seems to wander through the game with no serious threats. Death from Above is a serious opening move against groups of weak mobs and there are probably more abilities to be used in combat than any other class, you always have something to do in combat especially when it comes to heat management. I class my Powertech as my main so I may be a bit biased

DPS: MM Sniper

PvE: Top-notch damage, and some good defensive cooldowns, as well as a great story.

PvP: Good, as long as you don't try to play like a BH. Get away, hunker down, shoot them dead, rinse, repeat.

Story: Phenominal.

Ship: Best in game.

Companions: As long as you like psychotic, we have a great stable of companions.

Can you guys give me some insight to the BH Story and ship as well? Still kinda stuck...gameplay of BH is luring me in but I wanna know what the story, ship, etc are like before I make my decision...and how Patch 1.2 will effect them (can't understand patch notes, better to hear from a BH on this). Also, are there any good titles for BH and IA's other than the ones everyone can get?

Bh has the best companions by far I feel.

 

DPS wise a pyro powertech is a beast!

 

Most of their damage, unlike the sniper, is either elemental or is given a 90 percent chance to bypass armour ie railshot.

 

I've played both a BH and a sniper/gunslinger... Pvping and levelling both are more fun for me on my BH than with my sniper.

 

I'd say try something new and go BH

i'd go with an imperial agent and a sith warrior for your friend.

 

sith warrior has awesome companions and a good story, imp. agent has amazing story from what i hear.

Would you advise that I got Sith Warrior? That was my 3rd fall back choice in case neither worked out. And would it be better to go Jugg or Mara? I tend to enjoy less keys to cope with on my key bindings.....and what about Powertech and IA? Would that work or not as much?
