Thoughts on SoR (Consular)

I have my Consular (haven't done much for story on my Bounty Hunter):

Class Quest bits: First of all, YES YES YES! We've all been begging BioWare to continue on with class-based stories. More of this, please. And can we get some new stuff for our companions, too? I miss Tharan's sarcasm and refreshing lack of tolerance for Force-based bantha $%^*, Nadia is a doll, Qyzen is...Qyzen, and Felix still has that ticking bomb in his head.

1. Okay, Grandmaster Satele. I'm kinda in the middle of bailing out your shady kid and his shockingly sane and attractive Sith pal over here. (Still a little unhappy about the "cannibalistic pirate gang" bit - but I think Treek cemented the reputation...they didn't find all of that idiot Rodian that fought us in the bar, and she did mention wanting to "sample" Rodian meat at one point). Revan the Allegedly Canonical has gone completely around the bend and has a nutjob cult. Rumor has it they're going to resurrect the Emperor (ok, killed the guy six times already running escort with Knights. What's a seventh?), and you want me to drop everything to make a historical record?

2. Master O'a - You are way too cheerful, dude. And I did tell Satele that you might not like what I have to say. I'm a Shadow with a "The Honorable" title instead of "The Pure" for a reason.

3. "You were the best I ever knew. Goodbye, Jedi" - Ouch. Just...OUCH. And then to have that morning person of a Bothan verify:

Nadia's going to take that holocron to her homeworld after you die, and that Felix will be killed by some Sith, whose great-grandson is going to nab my holocron?

OUCH. Hey, knowing from a player perspective that BioWare has a plan for your crew is kinda cool. Still...looks like they're going the Avellone route here. For the record, he's the guy behind KOTOR 2, who has famously said he hates love stories, happy endings, and Star Wars.

4. Ah, Riishi. I suspect my sister and brother in law's Smugglers were right at home here. Unfortunately, nothing really memorable as far as characters or quests go.

5. Yavin 4. Ooooooh. I have an old KOTOR 1 mod that tried to build this place, but it's great to see SWTOR actually go through with it. All the creepy jungles, all the nasty critters, all the crumbling ruins...but, no Nadia dear, I do not think Massassi with starships would be a good idea, nor would they join the Republic. You're a sweet gal, and everything I want in a Padawan, but you are still pretty naive.

6. Revan's literal split personality. No, I don't get it. I'm more inclined to go with a fan theory (it contradicts the book, but the book was a train wreck, anyway) that there was more than one person with the title of Darth Revan. "I gave up my attachments?!" Dude. Seriously?! Your literal Dark Side is about to resurrect Emperor Cthulhu, and that's the best you're gonna give me? PLEASE, I hope the rest of your party is waiting somewhere in the Force to kick your shebs for this!

7. Speaking of that? The solo version of the Enemy Within? Totally. Freaking. AWESOME!! Probably the most epic Enemy Mine that's ever been done in that universe. And as far as a fight goes, Revan the Allegedly Canonical puts up the kind of brawl you'd expect from someone who had Te Taylir Manda'lor fanboying over him.

8. But for more tragedy? OK, I'll admit. If they do continue the Companion stories, I'm going to have a lot to explain to Felix (to be fair, though, BioWare, when you don't hear ANYTHING from a romanced companion for almost three years, how can the player be sure the romance is still on?!). Yes, that means my Shadow had a lesbian affair with a Sith. I know playing Bounty Hunter that the Empire is a disgusting, lawless, bloodthirsty, racist, sexist, slave-holding, fascist cesspit run by power-mad nutcase Force-fueled warlords with all the political stability and infrastructure of a Third World stereotype. But then a character like Lana comes by and makes a great case for Dark is not Evil, and that there may be something more to the Empire (and the Sith) than backstabbing and bloodthirst. (I'll go back to playing my Bounty Hunter for a reality check). I trusted her a lot more than I trusted Tharon (he reminded me of Zenith, probably the voice. His suggestions were also of the type that would probably make things worse). The whole implications of "the love that dare not speak its name" and the tragedy that, after Revan goes down, the characters will have to be enemies if they meet again require its own essay.

9. This might just be Bergen Colony (a server which tends to not do a lot of PvP, and is evenly-split faction-wise), but I saw a lot of cooperation between Imperial and Republic players on Yavin 4; if a player was low on HP, and another player was in the area, they'd jump in and help. Didn't matter if one player was a Trooper and the other one an Inquisitor. There was also plenty of com chatter to the effect of "I don't wanna go back to fighting [opposite faction]!" , "The Emperor is the real enemy here. Let's team up and kill him!" and "Can we get an actual treaty?" Then again, it's not the first time I've seen Imperial and Republic players cooperating on the server, just the most widespread since the Gree event.

Hey there. I see from your phrasing that you're One of Us, and that we have already Ruined Your Vocabulary :p

For the most part, I agree with your assessment. I found the split personality thing was a bit weird -- would have been much more reasonable to have Revan just going insane after 300 years of rooming (braining?) with the Emperor. Then again, I don't like Star Wars, so I may be missing some vital lore bit here :D

And yes, it's a bloody tragedy that most companions don't talk, and those that do barely have anything to say. By this point, my memory of the Felix romance is already starting to fade. I just remember that he was really sweet and cheerful, and kinda badarse (seriously, profanity filter?). Please, Bioware, you're so good with romance in video games. At least let us remember that we did this!

And yes, more team-up would be great. My sorc and my shadow are already at She Is Not My Girlfriend levels of familiarity. My operative may or may not be my slinger's dad. There's so much story-telling potential in having the Republic and the renewed Empire under the leadership of Darths Marr and Imperius / Psychopathox / Occlouded coming together to defeat the Emperor. If SWTOR ever ends (and I don't think there's much content that can top the emperor), that would be the way to end it.

Did anyone else get the impression that those events in the visions of the consular and that bodhan are going to happen more sooner than later?

I mean the death of the consular specifically. I honestly did not like to hear something like that especially because it seemed to me that my consular is not going to die of old age according to those visions but more sooner than later. I think it is because Felix says goodbye and I expect him to be older and my consular did not romance him so I don't expect him to stay close to her for the rest of his/her life. Of course they have to die one day but I would prefer if they would leave the fate of the player characters open.

For those who have seen or played the consular story in SoR what was your impression of the visions?

I'm curious, what is the new title the Consular gets for completing the SoR expansion? Elite Jedi Council member to match the Inquisitor's Elite Dark Council member?

It's "Master of Hidden Knowledge" or some such.

IMO, Revan story was a bit too short, and not well done in some cases, (though well done in others). Class stories were awesome, though short and were kind of a painful memory of things lost. Lack of companion interaction was disappointing as always but (mostly) not surprising.

I do agree they're going to happen soon. and caution you that "always in motion is the future"

I've got a theory on it.

SOR ended on something of a cliff hanger. with the emperor free etc. obviously BW's working towards a big epic conclusion there. I have a hunch BW's been teasing us with that in the JC storyline. I seem to vaguely recall a planet getting mentioned a few times, I'd be willing to bet that is where we'll be going soon. the future is always in motion and is subject to change, death is not certin. it's just likely :) and god knows our dcharacters beat the odds all the time

Would it be possible if...

Felix leaves the crew in the distant/near future and is possibly replaced by Jakaaro?

The end of this chapter had us asking Jakaaro if he wanted to join our crew (all classes if I'm not mistaken), to which he replies he would think about it, and with the Consular's class story "vision" depicting Felix apparently saying farerwell.... I mean, I really don't think the consular would die, so the way I interpreted that was that Felix was going bye-bye.

The visions seem very morbid in general a lot of death involved and it's hard to really determine anything with just fragments, here is what I think:

However I seriously doubt that they would kill off the players character at all (That would be beyond stupid) perhaps a suicide mission that they you don't expect to come back from. For example he may say that as your crew sees a space station blow up that your supposedly on but the reality might be something different.

Also your visions have not always come true, you have changed your own visions once or twice.

On the topic of where your holocron, I think your wrong in the whole timing thing Allronix.

He says your padawan takes the holocron there after your death and sure your padawan is Nadia but that doesn't mean the she wont finish her training and you get a new one. The half trained jedi only gets the holocron after the fall of the republic (assuming it stays on the planet for all that time) and we all know how long it is till the fall of the republic.

And thus since the sith will get your holocron after that there is no way it could be someone you know.

I think, that this is setup for the conflict between barsen'thor and Nox. Two most powerful force users will have to clash someday. And it doesn't look like it will be consular winning this game. imo, if you choose to pursuit the mad chase presented to sorcerer in the class story, you will have to meet the only Jedi that could stop Nox.

I don't see how that would be possible. Nox and the Barsen'thor can't ever actually directly encounter or engage eachother. At least not without pissing off all the players who find out their personal stories have now been voided. Sorry Darth Imperious/Darth Occlus, you did it wrong, you're supposed to be Darth Nox. Oh, you thought you were a female Mirialan Consular who killed the plagued masters? No stupid, you're a human male consular who saved everyone. etc.

I mean the novels are one thing, the vast majority of players probably never have and never will read them, but actually declaring "This is the canon race/gender/choice for this class" in game would be..problematic at best.
