Killiks and the Rakghoul plague

Looking at the event going on now brought to mind the following question that has been gnawing at me for some time:

We are told in the story-line both that:

1. the rakghoul plague affects the mind as well as the body in a manner of speaking

2. the killik population has a hive mind: thoughts of one are known to all...

so:

would it not stand to reason that infecting one killik would infect them all ?

(sort of what they wanted to do to the Borg in Trek).

(Opinion) Not really. At least notionally, the Rak plague is a virus or similar, and above all it is a physical infection, not a magical one.

So for sure the physical body of only the affected individual would be infected, not all of them, and it's easy to see how the Rak transformation would sever the link with the hive mind.

That idea does lead to some interesting ideas. We already know that Doctor Lokin is the Rak equivalent of a werewolf, a human that can change back and forth to a beast-like form, although it's normal (but far from universal)(1) for the transformed werewolf to lose the "human" control aspect, while Lokin clearly retains it.

Perhaps (in a hypothetical story) there could be some sort of investigation of adapting Lokin's stuff to breaking Joiners out of the hive mind, and various stuff doesn't go according to plan.

(1) See e.g. the 1989 novel Wolf Moon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Moon_(novel)

ugh, censoring of perfectly good words used way far outside their associated sexual context

Hmmm this idea and what Steve said has merit... It would make a great addition as a Main, side or Event quest story line!

I love it!! SWTOR Team, HEY, DEVs, look HERE at this post, there some great concept Ideas to be use here! :D

The only thought I ever have about the killiks is 'why haven't the Empire and Republic united to exterminate the horrible mind rape bugs plaguing Alderaan'. They are one of the most disgusting and immoral species in the setting who actually think they are doing people a favor by granting them the 'peace' of having their mind forcibly altered by chemical warfare and consumed by their wretched hive mind. Not that this is anything new since the books they were introduced in also inexplicably didn't have everyone unanimously decide to wipe them out in self defense on the grounds that they were a monster species that evolved from the ground up to mind rape other species into slavery via chemical warfare and they can't even turn off their ability to emit their mind rape pheromones if they wanted to (which they don't, because again the insane monsters think they are doing you a favor by stealing your free will and enslaving you to their hive mind).
