turnoverla-page
something that does confuse me is that the rebels had all the old republic style hips eg the y wing and the x wing what was based on the headhunter, and the empire suddenly used tie could someone explain this to me

Talon_Starfire
It's most likely the empire didn't want them and decommissioned them.

internaty
Cost vs usefullness. A tie is probely cheaper to mass produce then x-wings. And given the fact imperial troops are expendibol having very powerfull ships is just to expensive. The rebels on the other hand believe it is worth risking the live's of many to save one of there own. Thus they focus on quality over quantiy. Also: The imperials are arogant believe the rebels nothing more then a minnor nuciance. This made them careless(and got themself killed) Edited December 15, 2012 by internaty
fettpett
There were poltics involved as well, Sienar System Fleet designed and built the TIE fighters and were given an exclusive contract to build them. Incom on the other had broke up when the plans for the X-wing were stolen the lead designers escaped to the Rebellion. They set up shop and built the X-wing exclusively for them. Y-wings and Z-95's were old designs and easy to come by, A-Wing and B-Wings were both designed and built by the Rebellion
Thylbanus
There were poltics involved as well, Sienar System Fleet designed and built the TIE fighters and were given an exclusive contract to build them. Y-wings and Z-95's were old designs and easy to come by, A-Wing and B-Wings were both designed and built by the Rebellion Also it was the Empires combat doctrine that played into it. Throw cheap, expendable gun platforms in massive numbers to overwhelm the enemy by sheer numbers. The same sentiment that the Separatists had with the droid armies. TIE Fighters had no shields, no hyperdrive, no gravity, and no life support. It was just an engine, couple of laser cannons and control pod. Easy to maintain. Easy to replace. You could field 4 TIE Fighters for the same cost as 1 X-Wing. Very few pilots are good enough to shoot down 4 enemies. To shoot down 5 is a qualified ace. In a single engagement is almost impossible. As a point of reference, in WWII there were only 6 instances, on both sides, where pilots shot down 5 in one day. Simbr
The X-Wing designers (Incom) defected to the Alliance, taking the X-Wing protoypes and designs with them. Edited December 16, 2012 by Simbr
