You spent 5 million on just Smuggler's chips!!?
The amounts I listed were for Kingpin chips - 20 KCs for 1.5 million credits. I only used about 100 Smuggler's chips the whole time and they were left over from last year. (And because the SCs drop as loot in-game, I still have about 180 left.)
If you're going to spend that much, you could at least greatly reduce the time it takes, and your chances of winning, by buying Kingpin chips.

So - just because you were lucky to get the companion with 3 million credits does not mean everyone does.
Obviously not - even in the part of my post that you quoted I said that it cost me about 3 mill for the 1st one and an additional 6-7 mill for the second one. (That's 9-10 mill in total.)

I know that many people suggest that you just buy Smuggler's chips and get all your Kingpin chips from the Smuggler's slots, but judging by the amounts that people spend, it doesn't seem like such a good idea.

I was buying Kingpin chips in lots of 20 (1.5 mill). When I'd get the "Feeling Lucky" buff, I could usually keep playing the Kingpin slots until I won something - rather than having to stop when the 1 or 2 KC I'd won ran out, or playing the Smuggler's slots for hours, and hours to accumulate more KCs.

What do you mean "just about as long"? How would you know that? I could play 1.000 hours and still not get the Rodian. I might get it in 1 hour, too. RNG is RNG.

Good for you. The well-spirited fairy of luck was obviously on your side.

Here is my "luck":

First I went the kingpin + lucky buff way, because I didn't want to spend hundreds of hours at the event again. Bought 10 x 10 kingpins. That's 7.5 million credits. The result was devastating: 5 cartel market certs and 6 golden certs.

Then I switched back to the cheaper smugglers tokens only-method. I eventually stopped tracking my expenses and wins. I must have spent about 3 million credits so far on smuggler tokens. I always buy a stack of 100. This usually yields between 15 and 20 kingpin tokens for me.

With these tokens I won a couple dozen golden certs and 7 more cartel market certs. Also twice the speeder. No companion.

The point is: RNG is RNG.
Bioware offers a friend referal system which gives referred players a couple of goodies (incl. 7 free days of sub and a neat free 10 x inventory slot for every character) and referring players some little shinies and cartel coins.
I would be happy if you choose my referral link to grab your free goodies.

And I know that there are many lucky people out there who got one or more companions in a very short time and with few credits. But there are people like me who spent hours and millions and still don't have him.

This is why I think it would be less frustrating to have the companion directly at the event vendor.
Yeah I guess some people don't realize that others have bad RNG luck. Just because he/she got super lucky, doesn't mean everyone does.

I see nothing wrong with a direct purchase option of some kind, considering that the main point of this event people always bring up is it being a "credit sink." And a direct purchase would still be a credit sink in one way or another.

Forcing you to forever gamble for some of the rewards (or wait a year I guess?), on principle, seems cruel. I'm not sure there's a greater purpose in terms of game design, unless the point is to teach you that gambling is addictive and cruel in RL. Perhaps the point is just to hook you into next year's event, so that they don't have to make as much new desirable stuff (counting on a percentage to come back for next year). Not what I'd call a "good" reason, but could be an explanation for it as a design choice.

Finally really tried to play Nightlife Casino event a couple of weeks ago. Got Vector vehicles (x2) the first day, but no Rodian.

Still, had the time and the credits to keep collecting GCs to finally get the Gammorean Bodyguard character on one of my characters.

Played a little bit after, but not interested in spending more in-game credits when the casino got tedious after awhile.

I do agree that playing while waiting for the ground finder queue is a must, specifically for PVP / Starfighter. It is fairly easily to get selected for flashpoints right now (or always).

Was this stated somewhere? I keep seeing people propagate this myth as though it's fact. It took FIVE events (2014 - 2019) for the Gamorrean to be put on the vendor, so I'm not sure why they would just up and put the Rodian on the vendor on his second go around.

indeed, it's not a safe bet and rather unlikely. The rodian companion will only be added to the prize vendors when they decide to create a completely new jackpot prize for the kingpin slot machines.

Apart from that I actually don't mind that there are rewards you can only get with a very lucky jackpot. You can buy some nice stuff with the golden certificates and if you really want a companion, you can get the bodyguard for all your chars. This is a casino event after all and really nothing more than a big credit and time sink. I'm pretty sure they did not add a new achievement for the rodian companion as not to incense the achievement hunters.

I'm pretty sure it was just two events, though. Iirc the Gamorrean was a new drop in 2017, that's when the Rancor could be bought for the first time.
What do we do, panic, freak? I usually panic but I'm happy to freak.

My first NS Nightlife was in 2017. I played enough to earn all of the achievements except for breaking a slot machine.

Last year and this year, I played with a fixed budget of 2 million credits. This year has been my unluckiest so far. I burned through all my chips and didn't get a single kingpin jackpot. No Rodian. No extra Vectron BWL Wraiths (which get tossed anyway). Still no broken slot machine, either. I think the final haul this year was 15 cartel market certificates and 47 golden certificates.

I understand that this is designed as a credit sink, but I think it's reasonable to make the rewards achievable without playing like it's our job for the whole 6 weeks or so that the event typically runs.

(Breaking the slot machine should not be the rarest possible outcome. You don't GET anything other than an event achievement.)
