If you want it to be from the perspective of your character, then yes. Otherwise I could record you doing some stuff, which would offer more things that could be put into the .gif. Like wide angles, better view of abilities, etc. But again, it would not be centered on your char, which might not be the objective of the .gif you want. Edited by DewyMossEmpire

Looks good, OP. I've always wondered how to make animated gifs, but didn't look into it too much because i assumed it would be more work then I wanted to put into it. I'll give your link a try in a few days. If I fail horribly a few times, then I'll send you my stuff so you can make it look good.

Your examples above look real good.

I usually manage to get them around to 5 Mbs. Way too big for blogs to upload, those sites are usually pretty wimpy lightweights in terms of upload sizes (allowing <1mb for .gifs). But there are plenty of sites that let you host them no problem, I use Minus.com for the most part.

Of course depending on how much you want to show in the .gif, that could make the size a problem. I had to jack up the Lossy on my .gif of Tenaden to 17% in order to keep the size around 5Mb. That, or I could have reduced to colours from 256 to 128. In this case, but not always, it looked better with the Lossy effect. The reason I had to resort to that was because of the panning I did in the .gif, which included a lot more colours & scenery, rather than my still shots.

What about extensive transparency use? Not sure how possible it is with these, and finding an actual program that does it like I used to have is hard maybe but I used to have this program that would strip out all the extra stuff that was the same in the pictures. So like your static shot where the only actual animation that matters is the characters, just the first frame would show the city, and then the rest would all be transparent. However, as I said I've been unable to locate a copy of that program lately.

Pretty fancy tool. Not nearly as fun or talent-invested as a Photoshop method though x)

Ha yeah, I mean your method is awesome if one can do it, but for those of us without the time or talent you have... thanks to the guy that posted that GIF maker... here is something I just did with it... :)

My sage, Jennica dancing in the VIP area of Carrick Station.

AGZ,

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! Your healer has quite the club moves going on there. Not sure if that was included in her training back on Tython................. :p

Nah, it's natural talent.

lol was only a matter of time til we got a .gif of some Cantina Rat xD

Hey now, just cause she doesn't wear the traditional boring jedi robes and likes to dance doesn't make her a cantina rat.

I finished exploring all of Makeb at last, & by the beard was it worth it! I found so many beautiful areas & Champion bad guys, some of which even had boss battle mechanics.

Gotta hand it to the devs for going out of their way with Makeb on this one, it's a shame so many people grind through the planet & pay no mind to it afterwards. The same goes for all the planets in fact. I've always explored them all completely, & they always have secrets & beauty in them.
