"Girlfriend Friendly" classes?

For easiness, there can be no easier class to play than pyro powertech/Assault Specialist Vanguard. press 4-5 buttons to kill stuff. I'm not saying you will play it well, but it is doable. to play it well, you need more buttons:

basic pyro rotation: TSO - IM - TD- RS - FB - RS (If PPA Procs) (the 5 buttons I was talking about), if she picks republic, find the abilities that mirror these.

the Acronyms list, if you dont know the abilities by heart can be found here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=431883

for PvE, use this spec: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301hMbZ0cZfhrbzGhrs.2 or the vanguard spec that's like this one.

enjoy :) Oh and, if she's not into the whole dark side thing, boounty hunter is a good class to play as Mako likes light side choices. :)

I think when it comes to someone new playing the game here are my thoughts on it.

1) Do what most people enjoy. (Stick with a dps class)

2) Generally try to stay with Range-- it allows for much more relaxing gameplay (referring to the leveling process)

3) Be sure they enjoy the class visually (Most girl I know avoid Troopers/Sith Warriors, etc. You probably have a vague idea of what classes she likes or dislikes)

4) Don't stress em out, if they want to start out as a clicker let them. Let them improve at their own rate, help but don't force progression.

5) Prepare for slow leveling, flashpoints, etc. (Know you're going to carry most of the weight)

If you got those down, they'll do fine.

So... she wants you to choose for her? Well... fair enough, then, I guess.

Shameless and pointless necroquote, but I found this hilarious.

Kudos.

Anyway, I would recommend you start as her being a sorc and you being a warrior, or vice versa. I find Korriban to be, by far, the easiest and least annoying starting planet, and I think if she gets bored early, she'll be much more likely to not want to play. If she isn't annoyed right away, she might get more sucked in. Although you'll have to pick your server wisely, because some of the Korriban general chats are the most wretched of wretched hives of scum and villainy.

Storywise noone can tell what story anyone enjoys the most. I liked the consular story better than the JK story even if the general consensus seems to be the JK story is better. Beeing tank or heal or dps is a personality thing. Realy hard to say if someone would enjoy tanking. I enjoy tanking more than dps, when you have a decent group. People not letting me pull as tank and start out with mass aoe can be stressing. In a good group tanking is easy and fun.

dps gets boring in the long run imo. Healers and tanks generally have more resposibility and that makes the game more challenging. Imo pick any class that have a chance to respec tank or healer. That way you have a choice to try another type of gameplay.

You prolly picked something for her by now, but for others, a good choice would be something that goes well with your current character

if you're dps, have her get healer or tank and vice versa. having 2 of the same class will boil down to - let's just attack this thing and get it over with -derp-

makes it fun when you're playing together if 1's abilities compliment the other's

I agree, tank is the most girlfriend friendly class if she is new to MMOs...

SWTOR Tank classes -

Republic

1. Trooper - Vanguard.

2. Jedi Knight - Guardian

3. Jedi Consular – Shadow * (except "maybe" balanced)

Empire

1. Bounty Hunter - Powertech

2. Sith Warrior - Juggernaut

3. Sith Inquisitor – Assassin * (except "maybe" madness)

* Although, maybe still too squishy for some at lower levels.

For easiness:

PT and get her to start as tank. New player to mmo learn pve mechanics better as tank. She can always switch later to dps if she doesn't like tank. Needless to say PT is pvp-friendly.

For fun:

Stealthy class. She assassin, you operative. That combo can clear all H4 and FP without waiting for 4 people group, and is super fun for pvp.

And tell her dark side has all the cool looking gears :p

women don't like play tank to PROTECT her BF,

they like play healers in my country,

i suggest OP to play over-geared and over-leveled hybrid tank dps to play with his GF.

My wife does not play MMOs. She had to play WoW for college credit while attending George Washington Unviserity, so I had to teach her how to play MMOs. I stopped playing WoW after the first 4 months. I just could not get into it. But for her, I bit the bullet.

Anyways, we talked and she has agreed to come to SWTOR to play. Of course, that means teaching her how to play. She is intelligent, but has trouble with her brain telling her body to stuff, so there is a delay in her actions and her motor skills suffer, to top it off, she has no patience and gets frustraited rather quickly. This is why I doubt she will play more than 10 hours.

That being said, she did tell me she wanted to play a jedi. "Not one of the bad guys that you like to play"... She was referring to me being imperial and a bounty hunter in SWG killing rebels and jedi. So I agreed, and I will just make the choice of class for her and choose Jedi Knight. it is not too hard, complicated and is beefy when tank spec.

I think she might like the Shadow, but they are mid range bloomers with PvE.

Ideally I would want her to play Powertech, because Mako makes everything easier.

OMG no, tanks in groups get a massive beating if they make a mistake, so do healers. Never let a new person be either.

Girls don't tend to like guns, so trooper, smuggler, operative and bounty hunter is out.

Girls tend to like bad guys, so some kind of sith.

Girls tend not to like melee, so Sorcerer :)

Make the sorc a girl, get her a nice robe (Play dress up), and job done. The bonus is that they are easy to play as well.

Worked for me :) Though then I started to dislike the game and quit but she dragged me back!

My GF has been playing since the release of the game (1st timer to an MMO), and she has stuck with a arsenal merc, but has 50 madness sorc, and soon to be 50 operative healer.

I feel that the merc rotation and energy management was just perfect for her to master rather easily, and was whimsical enough to keep her entertained. She started her Sorc, just because she liked the look, and the Operative for a challenge of something new, as well as to mimic my main.

Best advice i can give you is to make your toon the same race as hers and not to ugly. As well as be patient with her and slow down more or less; biggest issue my GF has with me is that i turn and move to quickly (she uses her mouse to turn, but still looses sight of me).

That is so full of stereotypes I don't even know where to begin.

Chicks like healers usually. At least from my experience that's what they seem to play most.

I agree, tank is the most girlfriend friendly class if she is new to MMOs...

I've known almost a dozen female MMO players. Over half were healers. None were tanks. They don't seem to like tanking.

Edit: I take that back. I knew one with a tank alt in Lineage 2, but my point stands. Tanks are not a popular class for female gamers.

Asking for generic girl help gets generic girl answers.

Also stereotypes exist for a reason, it is a laymans form of psychological profiling and quite accurate on a lot of people.

Edit: If you want a more specific answer try this: Take things that they do enjoy outside of the game, from other games and tv etc and find the parts of the game that match up as best you can. My girlfriend plays sims a lot, so character creation, levelling up and companions helped a lot. Maybe saying playing dress up over simplified what I was talking about, but coming from sims then seeing all the gear you can wear was something she enjoyed, and sims is about the most popular game with female gamers ever.

PT is basically a tank and massive DPS for the first 20 or so levels if geared reasonable well. :)

It is true, most gamer girls I have gamed with do indeed like being healers and they like playing range dps. They also like being tanks as long as they are not really tanking. In other words, they play tanks to help with any fighting impairness they may have whether fighting is not their thing or they want to take a few extra hits. Some may find Commando and Mercenaries (hyrbrid) cool too in which they can do both like a LOTRO Captain.

(OK, as a female player who plays all the combat roles, I gotta jump into this one.)

I ask you to let her try some options for herself! Make your first low-level character with her (say, until you guys get your ships) so she gets used to the UI and general combat mechanics, and then let her make a few of her own. (You can always play your existing characters while she does this.)

The choice for a main should be up to HER. Being "attached" to one's character is a big component of games like this, and from my experience, females are more likely to identify with/feel attached to theirs and use it as a motivation to keep playing. If she sees her class and faction as her own decision, it will greatly help the attachment process, and mean she would be more likely to stick with this long term.

Also, not to be blunt, but unless she's mentally challenged, she should be able to handle ANY class and spec just fine! The leveling process allows PLENTY of time for this. It's easy enough to get by, and maximizing more complicated classes is only really relevant in endgame, anyway. She's got you to give her tips, after all. And getting her up to speed would be even easier if you guys play in the same room.

The only time someone of average intelligence shouldn't roll a more complicated class, is if they don't have anyone like guildmates or real life friends/relatives to give them advice, and are unaware of the resources on the web.

I also second the advice to suggest a tanking or dps class first, as it will make healing easier if she decides to go that route.

installed swtor to my gf... she's making a jugg. male , uber ugly... she said

'it's to match all those girl chars you made'

Awesome, lol
