SWTOR Casino

Alright! We had pazaak in KOTOR 1 and 2, where are the card games and other forms of gambling? It is a mixed topic due to being kind of mature as you lose credits and it teaches people how to gamble, which isn't the best, but hey it is loads of fun to get on a game and have the choice of a mini-game to play cards, do slots, play roulette. Now for TOR we already have the perfect planet for such an idea, Nar Shadaa, what planet is better for a casino? Heck, even if we get our guild ships sometime in the future, maybe get a card table to play on or something! I know I spent loads of time on KOTOR playing pazaak. I've just always hoped for something larger in TOR. Enjoy the topic, let's see if we can persuade the devs!

I do not see this game ever including any "real" gambling. At best, it would be akin to Zygna Poker on Facebook - when you start, you automatically get X amount of new currency, you then play games with that currency that every day you can spin a wheel, or roll dice, or whatever and get more of; win or lose there is no real consequence. Maybe you throw in a tournament and players get additional gambling currency for winning and/or placing in said tournament. But gambling for in game credits has a minimal chance of getting through and gambling with cartel coins has ZERO chance of getting through since Cartel Coins translate into real world money.

Yeah but like I say second life has its own currency and that can be turned into real money so there probably is some sort of loophole. Problem is you'd prob need to watch constantly for exploits.

The "loophole" is that Second Life has content that is only intended for adults and restricts access to those areas to those players who can prove they are adults and can therefore give informed consent. SWTOR is rated for teens. And while teenagers think they are capable of giving informed consent, legally they cannot. So unless BioWare is willing to setup restricted areas of the game, casinos will not be available.

Don't see why they can't make a poker room where u play for cartel coins. Not sure of the legalities of it all but I know second life do it and it would be ace fun grabbing peeps cartel coins like the hustler u are :)

It would be considered online gambling which is illeagle in the United States.

I'd like nothing more than to idle the nights away over games of pazaak but I don't think this is coming.

I was skeptical previously, and am even more skeptical since the move to F2P.

Now that you can pull out your credit card to purchase items (think Pazaak cards), it just opens itself up to charges of gambling...

UNLESS one can only gamble with Casino Tokens and the only way to use these is to purchase specific gear and there are absolutely no trades allowed between people.

There are no casinos or gambling in Second Life as Linden Labs closed and banned them years ago due to US gambling laws. As someone that is on Second Life as well as swtor, the currency in Second Life can be purchased with a cc, a paypal account or can be earned by working a job or selling virtual goods. While you can exchange the currency, Lindens, to cash by selling it on the Linden exchange someone has to agree to your selling price for Lindens and buy them from you instead of Linden Labs.

The difference between swtor and Second Life is that Second Life was setup to allow people to earn and exchange Lindens real cash. Swtor is not and I see no changes in how swtor is operated.

It only falls under the gambling statute if your gambling real dollars.. virtual currency does not apply.. Hence club Wpt which is legal in the US.. no money is actually won therefore legal.. You play for prizes and stuff given by sponsors.

I would love to see the Casino on Nar Shaddaa have some mini games like Pazaak, Sabaak and even Djarak. I would like to see two sets of tables and game rooms: solo (play against NPCs) and multiplay (play against real people) -- all while waging Credits (different wagers and rewards for different games).

I don't think they would allow for Cartel Coins though: since those can translate into real-world currency, and cause a lot of frustration amongst players, name calling and accusations of cheating. There may still be some grief from bads and kids when it comes to losing credits, but it would be negligible and non-impacting to anything RL.

Even if it were just NPC-driven solo gambling games and whatnot, it would still definitely be a great idea to have those little mini games in the Casino, and make that place alive with people. :) Also, some games could have achievement unlocks, titles and exclusive Casino Vendor items (like that car speeder in the foyer) for the players who get real lucky or do real well in there.

Heck, I could imagine some duels breaking out in there when a couple of people disagree on the hands they were dealt. Lending more to the realism of that shady place on Nar Shaddaa. And, just like at some bar entrance on Coruscant, if a fight breaks out, some NPCs would run scurrying for cover. LOL.

This would definitely liven the place up.

Pretty please, Bioware?
