Quick quote from the Community Cantina Tour in Austin:

"Space combat additions coming soon, Dallas and the team kept it vague about specifics. More is coming and they said you should bug some guy named Ross. So if a Ross comes to your town in the future, bug him."

Not much to go on but at least we have a name... Ross...

So Ross if your'e reading this come on in and drop us a line or at least a friendly hello.

I've given my own interpretation of what they said on a few other treads already this morning, but i'll go a head and repeat myself here too: The speaker (i think it was Dallas) mentioned new space content coming "soon'ish" I believe that's the new on-rail missions shown at E3. Then it was hinted that new content that "[they] think we'll all be happy with" is coming some time after that. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the SSSP that no one's talking about.

Yeah I'd say it was likely the new on the rails stuff (which hasn't arrived on Live yet, of course).

They did say back in may or june about "new details on the SSSP being released in a month or two", but nothing since.

I'm honestly not convinced the SSSP has been past concept stage, and if it is then only just. :(

I'm grasping at straws myself. But given their rounds of layoffs and the F2P transition, i'm willing to hold onto the hope for a little while longer.

If i were to throw out some wild speculations. I'd say that the new on-rail space mission will come out with 1.6 along with the new PvP map. Shortly after that should be that 1 year anniversary of launch - That'll be a REALLY good time to announce a Space expansion... IF they have one, of course.

Yeah, I'm really excited about that game. I hate that its two years out.

Yeah this looks pretty sweet. I can remember seeing it for the first time a while back. I think they had something like only $40,000 in donations at that point iirc. The crazy thing is I thought they would never get it off the drawing table but it seems so much closer now. I chipped in on it at the time thinking I've spent my money on much worse before so why not. It looks as if it could really be amazing and if my contribution to it comes to fruition then I'm going to be a pirate. I already have scenarios I have played out in my head and how my ship will look. It is amazing to see some of the in game rendering they have done.

I see it as a minigame until the SSSP gets implemented.

Although they could have skipped that and make Pazzaak, a Nar Shaddaa casino and Swoop racing instead, until the "real" space is finished.

All or any of the things you mentioned would have been resources better spent than more railshooter missions.

Everyone has given up (or quit).

Something is coming (SSSP) in late 2013, just have to wait and see as Bioware EA aren't prepared to say anything. :(

Well.....the SGR topic has over 9000 posts and they will have what they wanted. If people did not give up perhaphs we could make this happen....

This. It's just a carrot, nothing more. I doubt we'll even see it in 2013 Goretzu.

The thing is, the SGR crowd had something specific to work with (Erickson at the Guild Summit last March saying the writers were actively working on SGRs)

The only things we have about SSSP are generalities ("totally different pixel space").

If they said, just once, with clear language, "not-on-rails open 3D space combat" at any point ever, many people would feel better about waiting. Even if it weren't in 2013, I would personally be relieved that the SSSP is some form of "unrails"

I've seen people claim it's not on rails, but these are players who are either hoping, or claim to have an unnamed "inside source" , or who point to the "pixel space" quote and say "what else could that possibly mean."

Yeah, but that's much easier (and tbf what they are throwing with Makeb is a bone), for the sort of space people really want (JTL or better) they'd have to have a serious number of people working for 1-2 years most likely (and bear in mind Bioware EA is slow content-wise, SoE can deliever build your own dungeons in EQ2 but that would likely take 10 years here :().

Yeah certainly whatever the SSSP may be massive slipage time-wise isn't unlikely.

It's silly to imagine that Tie Fighter the Star Wars Simulation game from the mid 1990's was and still is the pinnacle of space combat simulation and was only a 24 megabyte game.

Thats about the size of most patches today.

Graphically it could use an upgrade, but that would rival and still be better that what we have today...

On the JTL issue, people fled SWG because the NGE sucked not because of JTL.

I agree totally

+1

*Speaks slowly, but loudly*

It is in development, and has been since before product went live.

Uh huh....sure it has. While that very well may be true, without knowing the level of commitment it has, it's meaningless. 1-guy sketching ideas for 15 min a day could be considered "developing" it. Is it 1 person? A "team" of 2 people perhaps? 4? 10? You have no idea what "in development" means in this case so there's no way identify what it could relate to in terms of commitment from Bioware.
