Ilum the open PVP world?

So I hear some of you guys complaining about that Ilum didn't live up to the talk.

About this grand open world PVP. If you are in a PVP server, isn't the entire galaxy open PVP already?

*head scratch*

lololololol understatement of alllllll time...

Ilum was described as being a game changing jaw dropping experience that would redefine the nature of PvP. It was so buggy and broken it was removed from the game in the first patch and promised to be revamped redesigned and returned new and better than ever

One year later it is still not back. When they removed it they effectively removed the dailies and weeklies for the area as well. Now they compensated for this by making the WZ dailies and weeklies worth slightly more, however at the same time they increased the cost of gear when they redesigned the bag system for Champ and BM gear.

So on the whole the reduced the amount of daily/weekly comms, increased the cost of gear, removed the second method of gearing up, removed an entire zone from the game, and lost a huge percentage of their player base in the process.

Saying "it didn't live up to the talk" is like saying "people were disappointed when ranked got pulled from 1.2 three hours before it went live... that is to say if you look at Torstatus those failures likely caused 100k players each to leave the game...

Not really. Some planets are in some areas but all the starter worlds can't be set foot upon the opposing faction. The capitals worlds can't be visited either.

Also Balmorra is entirely instanced and can't be seen by the opposing side. Tatoonie can have some PVP but the main cities are protected by an exhaustion zone that the other side can't pass through.

Ilum could have been a good PVP planet but there is nothing to fight over there. Hopefully it gets an update soon. The daily quests there should involve fighting / capturing the opposing side not just killing some random NPCs.

Yea it was a bust.

SWTOR did try there hand at developed WPVP but it was sadly a failure.

If I remember correctly, they also said the game engine could not even handle that many people in one area. Makes it sound like a failure from the start.

It's one of those things even now, as BW announces a change to Ilum thats coming, I'm very skeptical of what it is, if it will work and just how many massive bugs will be there and can the engine handle the new Ilum 2.0.

The best thing on Ilum is a few quests and dailies now.

This couldn't be more wrong.

It's only possible to do open world PvP on certain planets. Planets where it can't be done:

Hutta, Korriban, Dromand Kass, Tython, Ord Mantel, Couresaunt, Taris, Balmorrah, & Nar Shadda (except a small portion).

On top of this, there is no reward for PvP kills, no exp, no valor, no credits, etc.

SWTOR is a gear progression game, be it PvE or PvP gear - and PvP gear is a massively long grind - much longer than PvE gear which can be bought on the GTN with credits. Without missions to reward players for PvP, Warzones will continue to be the only type of PvP that has any amount of participation.

If SM and NiM Ops offered the exact same rewards, players would gravitate towards SM always because of the ease of completion. Or, if Ops didn't offer ANY reward, but FP's did, you'd see players running FP's almost exclusively. PvPers want open world PvP, but we also want to progress our characters, the same as any PvEer does.

It's really no more difficult than that.
