  1. To my person: I am a player. A singleplayer. I have other 600 games and started MMO playing recently, 1.5 years ago. In this time I tested several lf2p models, and I think I am able to tell, the reason why some models are successful, and some definitly NOT. I know many subscibers are frightened by the fought the game will be overrun by f2p gamers. For my part I can assure you, the only reason I do not subscribe is, that I have the feeling, if I pay for it monthly, I am forced to play, because of the money I spent for it. Otherwise I am as serious as you, because playing games is my hobby. F2P gamers are not MMO gamers. The usual MMO gamers pays a monthly fee. The usual f2p gamer comes from singleplayer games, or is simply a casual gamers that tries something new. -------------------------- I tried to find some rules for the good f2p games: 1. The core of the game rules must be equally for f2p and subscribers. Never make it pay to win. We are not blind or dumb. 2. Do not anger the subscribers. They are your primary source of stable income. 3. Be reasonable in pricing. It must be a win-win situation for both. The company and the player. Use micro-payment. Prices greater than 10$ are NOT micro-payment. 4. Balance the game towards normal gamers. Stop listening to power-gamers. It's very unlikely that f2p gamers are power-gamers. Make different levels, so that power-gamers can play on hard, elite, epic or something like that. 5. Do not reduce the value and level of loot, because you want to sell some loot enhancing thingies. No one can see, if the loot is really enhanced. It's like trying to sell snake-oil. 6. If a f2p gamers buys something, then raise his status to Premium f2p. Give him some extras like free char slots, additional storage space, auction house access, etc. You got his account data, and in the future it is MUCH easier to get his money, because you are now two clicks away from his money. 7. Subscribers should get ALL your future contents and New things for FREE. Let f2p or premium f2p buy things extra. 8. Make special sales in the shop. Reduce some articles 20% and so. In this case players log on more often, to see, if something is on sale today. 9. Let all your players earn some game money while playing the game. So they have the feeling they earn some money, to buy ingame things. This is very important. So f2p gamers can try to get ingame money with (much) work., if they haven't got enough paid ingame money. This is the CORE of f2p. To earn things simply with playing the game. The amount of free ingame currency should be a little extra for your paid ingame money. If you do not let the player earn ingame money you WILL fail with f2p. 10. F2p, premium f2p and subscrbers. Should be able to play together without ANY restriction. This means access to all basic quests, raids, etc. If they have access to the planet, quest packs, etc, they should be able to quest with subscribers. I you don't do that you will have a big rift between the players. And you don't want that, it's the way to bankruptcy. So ditch your plans for limited quest access for f2p. If you do it right nobody notices, that you are an subscriber or f2p. 11. Singleplayer f2p and casual f2p do not like farming! Give them the item they look for after the third try to 100%. This is a compromise they can live with. 12 Give the subscibers an amount of free ingame money. to buy extras. Cosmetics, speeders, etc. ------------------------------------- And I can't stress it enough. Make fair prices: Sell new planets, adventure packs, etc for under 5-10$. Sell cosmetic Items like the social items for under 1$. You have NO Sell additional character slots for all servers. max. 5-7 $ It's absolute silly to charge more than 1 subscription fee for on additional slot.! Sell additional storage space, etc for under 5$. Sell pets, tricks for pets, speeders, extra companions, and things you do not need in the core game play. So that subscribers have something to spend their points. If you want to sell an addon, make it free for subscribers. They paid for it the whole time. I think, you get the picture! Be reasonable and, under all circumstances, kick the spotty business study students out of the conference room, BEFORE you discuss prices. They ruin your f2p game. I stopped playing quit some of the f2p games, because they were totally greedy 15$ for 16 slots in the inventory of ONE character. -> NUTS 1 additional character slot on 1 server 15$ -> NUTS. F**k them! AS Rule: NO price beyond one monthly subscription fee, except for an addon. In generally prices that do not hurt. You have no idea, how many people pay for something, that is fair priced, and with money values, that do not hurt them.
