From about level 11 upwards all you ever get is items with hoods... Anything modable i've got so far is either the same item with a different colour (all while, or brown/tan) with hood up. Hoods appear to be part of the chest items and can't be toggled up or down. It's causing a bit of an issue right now as it makes a lot of the character customisation options pointless.

At level 17 now as a Jedi Sentinal. All the dam robes I have are hood up only and the hood is part of the chest item so it can't be toggled like other headwear. Makes me wonder why I spend time in the character creation menu and selecting a hairstyle etc. I don't want my dam hood up all the time!

Orange items can be modded and can be continually upgraded with better mods. So your first saber should only be reverse engineered if you have another "orange" lightsaber that can be modded to replace it with. Think of the orange items with mod slots as an empy shell. The stats for the items are made up from the mods you equip into the item. The only real different i've noticed between sabers is how the hilt looks in-game (the "hilt" mod doesn't change the look) Your starting saber can be constantly upgraded with new mods so there is no reason to get rid of it unless you hate the look of the item.
