The Faction change could just be as simple as the chance to flip the Light/darkside points to what is desired and then resetting the storyline to the start of the desired empire/republic storyline, as if the character being transferred is say lvl 30, the story will take two seconds to catch up to the level you are. It's a really simple implementation and it could mean a source of income. I really do hope they take this feature into consideration.
