This is definitely a step in the right direction. However, I think the way you computed the data still have some flaws : Looking at the top 10% may not be an accurate representation of an advanced class' overall performance. A class with a big deviation will tend to be over represented in the top 10% even if its overall performance is average. Look at this chart : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/74/Normal_Distribution_PDF.svg/350px-Normal_Distribution_PDF.svg.png The red, blue and yellow distributions have the same mean but if you only look at the top 10% values, you'll conclude that the yellow overperforms the two others. The fact that some classes can be a counter for another, plus the difference of distribution between them may lead to change the expected class performance. This is what I call the "rock paper scissors effect" (here is an interesting article about it : http://www.datagenetics.com/blog/march52013/index.html).
