For games designed using established cookie cutter templates, absolutely. In-game interactive multimedia delivery of storyline content being SWTOR's MO might make combat assist features less of a priority. At least at the outset. TOR has content that can use logs & ft. But that content doesn't drive the game, wasn't what EA/BW/LA invested their $multi-million$ in (for better or worse), and isn't the game's stock in trade. Story is and has been the game's calling card since the first press release.
Can we please just have our pre-KotFE SWTOR MMORPG back?

A lack of features such as UI customisability? Unforgivable.

To say 'well it took Blizzard X years to come up with that idea'.... so?

Are Bioware in some sort of quarantine zone? Did they never have access to the internet while coding this game?

It shouldn't be that the feature took X years for Blizzard to come up with, it should be the feature has been out for X years, how come we don't have it?
This. Plus they both charge $15 per month. If ToR cost less, it might be OK to have less features. It costs the same, it should have a similarly broad range of basic features (not necessarily content - that costs a lot more to develop and would be expected in an expansion).

It's mindboggling that people are still like "STOP COMPARING IT TO WOW" when clearly Bioware could've taken a game that millions of people have already played, paid for, and continue to pay for and used WoW's 7 years of experience to build a game in the Star Wars universe.

SWTOR should've been all of the great things about WoW and been better than WoW and ESPECIALLY better than what we got. When the best and most popular thing is out there for everyone to see, allowing itself to be disseminated, putting its failures and successes on pedestals for everyone to see, then a smart person should take a look and make better decisions.

Let's go the obvious route: It's a PC game. What do people like more than ANYTHING when they play PC games compared to console games? CUSTOMIZATION. MODIFICATIONS. PCs have the wonderful ability for you to make the game your own and Bioware said NO to that model. They made a console game. Your class quests are your campaign and the PVP is obviously the MMO. They played way too close to home and weren't thinking broadly enough.

It really makes me sad that I have no desire at all to resubscribe even though I already threw down my $80 and tax. $15 is better spent on lunch for an hour or a movie or something and how disappointing is that.

I have a 2004 WRX STI with 7 years worth of performance upgrades. You think a 2012 Stock WRX STI would come even close to a machine that has had 7 years to fine tune and upgrade? Not a chance.
I am eating your canon, and pooping your immersion.

<Edit>Killer analogy. It's like comparing a rookie racing team to established stables like Hendrick, Ganassi, Penske or Rausch. Replicating the technical success of others who have a years-long head start is a long & arduous process that does not happen overnight - unless Lady Luck waves her magic wand. It's either too simple a concept for some to comprehend, or is so obvious that it either hits a nerve and causes knee jerks or gets ignored for lack of sex appeal.

If I am developing a game and another company had a good idea that I am legally allowed to copy I will either copy or try to improve on it.

WoW is 7 years old but Bioware had plenty of time to rip off ideas from them. I do not expect the game to run as flawlessly as WoW or expect balance to be perfect at release. But I would assume that they would implement things before release that made WoW so successful for so long.

Look at the GTN. Have you ever seen an auction house that was so hard to search with? Why not let us list multiple listings with the push of a button (5 auctions for 1 Mandalorian iron, for example)? Why not save the price we listed something at so it makes listing multiple items easier, at the very least? Why not let us sort by cost per item? These are things that should be standard on any MMO auction house. This is just one example of things that really should have been changed before release.

Will they (alone) make me quit the game? No. But they may make others quit. And since I enjoy PvP, I need enemy players to fight against. If I (or my guild) cannot find fights, we will get bored and move on.

In order to stick around as an MMO you either have to do something new and innovative (voice acting is nice, but eventually people will hear it all and skip through it all). Or you need to do something AT LEAST as good as the previous guy. If you cannot do better, than just rip off good ideas from other games. Players understand dealing with some issues at release. But there is a limit to their patience. I think that is why we see so many MMOs struggling a few months after release during the past few years.

Expecting gameplay to be as good as WoW during the release of a new MMO may be unreasonable. But it seems fair for players to ask why certain options are not in game that are so popular in WoW. Customizable UI (not even necessarily talking about addons), a better GTN interface, improved looking for group options, chat bubbles, etc do not seem like they should be that hard to implement. Other games have done it (heck, I could at least customize the appearance of my UI in DAoC 8 or 9 years ago). Why should EA Bioware/Mythic not be able to?

It took them 4-5 years to get to where they are now. You then want then to spend another 7 years getting to where WoW is so it has all the same features?

They had to build a basic game before they can start improving on it.

I don't play WoW, I don't get the comparison. SWTOR is Star Wars, WoW is.. what? Some dipstuff game. Kinda like comparing a mishmash of every other fantasy game out there versus Star Wars. There's a very clear and definite line betwixt fantasy and science fiction. So, I won't compare. SWTOR is sci-fi based, WoW is fantasy-based. IMHO, as always.

Not an analogy, as a man in the revenge business once said "I do not think it means what you think it means."

An analogous comparison is purchasing a graphics editing program today (Photoshop CS5) and it not having features found in software from 2004 (Photoshop CS1).

Biodrone fanboi logic is fine for the imaginary land where science does not apply. That is sort of the point of escapist sci/fi games like ToR; escape from reality. EA/BioWare does not have the luxury of operating in that fairyland and so must compete with other products on the market today, not products on the market in 2004. Maybe if they invent a time machine but otherwise we are stuck in 2012. They know it and are working to catch up adding features/functionality that should have been present at release. It was rushed out a couple months early for business reasons and hopefully the devs can make up that ground in a hurry before too many subs are lost.
