SWTOR - NO COMMENT on Business Model yet - Discuss RMT/Subscription/Alternates... | 12.09.2008 , 06:01 PM
"Publisher Electronic Arts today classified BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO The Old Republic as a "microtransaction-based" title, indicating that the title could provide alternative pricing models to a traditional subscription.

"We are continuing to stick to the plan relative to building out our direct-to-consumer models which include microtransactions and subscriptions," said EA CFO Eric Brown in a conference call today. "The recent launch of Warhammer is a great example of that."

"Other initiatives we've announced, for example [the] Star Wars online MMO, are mid-session games which are microtransaction-based," he continued."

This unfortunately was a big misunderstanding and I want to be clear: we have made no official statements about the business model for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.

When we do have information as to business model for The Old Republic, we will definitely share it with all of you and you’ll find that information here on the official website.

Huh... Damn. Have to say, I'm not to excited about this. Guess I'll just have to wait for more info on it.

As long as I don't have to pay to get the best weapons or pay by the quest. I'd much prefer by the month, 2 weeks at the very least.

As per demulus's thread on mmorpg.com

No real details as to how they will work or what they will be applied to. Thoughts?

Thanks for amalgamating with DeaconX's thread.

I think we would hear something like this here first...on the Community Forums. I don't place much stock in that article.

That said, if it's true...its the first big mistake made my SW:TOR...imo.
Anubias: It will never end, this war...because Light and Dark never yields to the other. All one can hope to do is find the balance in yourself, becoming one with Destiny and thus, the Force.

Funny thing is that too many people will only read what the OP copied and pasted without going to the article. Even with the statement made in the article there is no clear indication by what they mean by micro-transactions.

We will just have to wait and see.

I love the smell of blaster fire in the morning.

I'll be honest, more info is required... but it definitely makes me feel UNEASY.

Microtransaction Models are one of those things that could make me drop hope for SWTOR like a sack of wet rocks.

Depends on what the microtransactions are used for I suppose... but generally, I'm cautious of it...
