Updating the Website: A Community Project?

Hi Folks,

As a long-time player of the game, I wanted to address something that's been on my mind for a while. The website for TOR, which during beta and up until 2015 was updated quite regularly, has taken a hit in keeping current. You can find proof of this everywhere (from the latest game update being 3.2 to the "latest screenshots" section of the first page displaying content from a year ago). Holonet's Galactic History notwithstanding (I'd love to see it completed, BW, but I've almost given up hope on that one), we as a community are more than enough to get this website updated for all the new, potential and existing players to take advantage of. I think the first step is to note what currently exists on the website that needs an update, and then seeing where we can take it from there. I'd like to venture forth and get us started with a (partial) list of some of the top things I think we need to update:

1. Game Updates - Any new or potential player looking through the game updates section might believe the game stopped being updated years ago when we know that's simply not true. Starting with update 3.2, let's get this section updated up to the current 5.4! A few screenshots peppered within a changelog narrative should be sufficient for each update. It will show that the game is still seeing love from the developers years after release and might instill some (much needed) confidence in the hearts of current players.
2. Digital Expansions - Currently this re-routes the user to KOTET. I suggest we show every expansion the game has had up to now, subdivided into sections to show where the game has been and where it's going. Storytelling has always been a core component of the game and I think it should be reflected in the website portions dealing with story.
3. Planets, Operations, Flashpoints, Warzones - I don't think these have been updated in a LONG WHILE (level cap is still reflected as being 50). Adding Uprisings and KDY-style Flashpoints, not to mention story, master, hard-mode etc shows how much content there is available to the game and yet again entices new players and prospective players while informing old players. Same goes for Ops (most recent is Eternity Vault), Warzones (has the original 5 on it), and Planets (which is missing every planet from Makeb forward).
4. Straighter goes completely un-mentioned, as do Guild Flagships, Strongholds, Conquest, etc.
5. Events - Hasn't been updated in a while (this summer, making it much more recent than other parts of the site). I don't know about you, but I'd really like to stay on top of when the next Double XP weekend is, or (if they ever institute it) Double Command. The "events" they have in game could certainly use some work (I'm pretty sick of the random roll casino games, frankly) but that's a discussion for another thread. For the time being, we could certainly update these to reflect Q3-4 of the year.

So that's where I'm at with the website revamp. I would really like to see it work and see the community get involved in making it ours. We play the game, most of us pay for it, but no matter what, we enjoy our time with it (ignoring the LOUD trolls who still spend their time in game despite "hating" the game so much). It may not do much to make the actual gameplay experience better, but its a start, and I think it will show BW that they still have a dedicated fan base who actively want to make the experience better (and more welcoming) to everyone!
