Why so much anti-healer posting? | 11.24.2009 , 09:05 AM
I admit I don't get it. I don't get all of the angst and negative commentary revolving around the subject. I know I've read a lot of community member comments about this not being a game based on the classic MMO trinity, and a lot of "there is no need for healers" and "there shouldn't be a class that primarily heals!" and "there are droids for that!".

Why? If you are not forced to play one...and I am assuming no one is coming to your house and coercing you to spec healing...why are you against the concept of a healing class?

Why would you, if you were a for-profit company like BW (and let's not forget the rather massive for-profit public company that owns them), send a "we don't want you here" message to very large numbers of potential subscribers...the people who play healers by choice in other MMOs? If you think that's a small number of people, think again. It's probably upwards of 25% of the MMO population, although even if it's as low as 15% it's a huge number.

It's easy for you to say "if you want to play a healer play somewhere else!", but I offer two responses to that: First, that's pretty damned unwelcoming to large part of the MMO population. Second, you are in no way responsible for the bottom line profitability of a publicly held company...and your reactions/commentary may be an indicator of why you are not.

The anti-healer mood usually stems from the fact that healers often are required in other (MMO) games and usually difficult to find.

It is the depending many fears I think ..... outside the ones who just whine/complain because they didn't get the class they wanted in the game.

Not to mention the healer class is generally the most underplayed class in the game.

With those statistics, the population is already limited, which means their intelligence level and skill level is a factor at finding a competent healer. Then when found, they are babied and spoiled so much they never plan to assist or help anyone other than for sheer greed of in game reward or standing.

However, since the healer class is a force user, this may up the population.

I get your point, xandax. I've played one MMO or another for the past decade, and yes, there have been times I was short a healer. I've also been short of tanks, and been short of DPS. Still, does that equate to "to hell with all of you who want to play healers...we don't want you here!" being a reasonable stance?

As my partner just pointed out to me, some co-dependence is what drives successful communities, yes? After all, if no one needed to group with anyone else for anything what would be the point?

Now this...this...is an attitude that could well do what you apparently want, cause people who play healers not to want to come here. Congratulations on managing to insult every single person who plays a healer class in every MMO in existence...GJ.

Of course, you don't play any game for standing or rewards...you donate your time and money to the entire gaming community so that your presence will uplift them all, and only play for some altruistic purpose that is yet to be explained, right? I'm betting you play games to have fun...and you know what? So do they.

The truth hurts. I don't play with casuals. I don't play with crappy people. For me, that ruins the fun. When people make childish mistakes more than a couple of times, they don't know how to play video games and shouldn't run in a crowed of people who do or get offended when that crowed tells them to, in simplest form, F-Off.

And, yeah I try to help uplift the gaming community when I play. I try to make the game more enjoyable. I used to stand in games at the newb spawn point and just donate tons of cash and items to them to help give them a jumping head start, because if only one of the hundreds of people I see in a day turn out to be a good valuable player, than I have done my job.

The whole game needs to be warped around the conceit of healers. If Jedi Knights with personal healing and Sith Warriors with regeneration can tear through content like the mofos that they are, the healers will wail and howl that nobody needs them. So we end up with bosses that have absurd health levels that cannot be defeated without a healer standing by.

Healers also tend to loudly demand that enemies be given broken AI, so that they never have to worry about enemies targeting them.
