Today was a bit dissapointing | 11.23.2009 , 06:07 PM
Well,as a SW fanand longtime MMO player i'm eagerly awaiting this MMO since i first heard of it,looking forward to the 2 last classes as everyone else,
but ...
When i saw them i was deeply dissapointed, SW has such huge content, and not only from the movies but also canon content that there have to be other classes to chose from than 2 more force users,i'm thinking engineer, officer, pilot, diplomat, spy (for republic as sith has agent),medic (if ya really want a healer) and i'm forgetting alot of them,
and what really did it today was the fact that they can "heal"!! for a long time i thought TOR was gonna have skill trees or some sort of subclass system were you would be able to chose your own role, apart from your main class,but no, you can chose from 2 "subclasses" as they say in the article ;
it would have been so cool to choose your jedi,sith,trooper,.... class and go with dps, healing or some sort and still have a difference between all classes and roles,Now, consulars and inquisitors will almost be forced to go healing because thats what parties need.
They could 've done so much better but when looking at the new screenies (someone made a thread about the armor looking very much WOW)from consular and inquisitor i'm believing TOR will go the WOW way just so they can compete with them ,
so i hope they prove me wrong when we hear something about crafting, space ,additional subclasses .....but today was a sad day,
sorry

Sorry. But you're wrong.

They basically took what the majority of people are going to play and divided it up to a few different play styles. It fits perfectly, sorry this isn't SWG. All of those characters you say fit perfectly with Star wars...engineer, medic, etc... where were they in the movies? They werent. This isn't SWG.

I been saying the last two classes would be force users for A LONG TIME now.

Cant really understand why Star Wars fans upset. I get why SWG fans upset but that was always going to happen as this not SWG2 and sooner or later their denial regarding this topic was going to hit home.

Star Wars is about Jedi and Sith. Always has been and no crappy made games (SWG) or poorly written litature (most EU novels) was going to change this simple little fact.

Bioware gets that. Their game that this based on (KotOR) was all about jedi and sith. The follow up game based on KotOR (KotOR2) was all about Jedi and Sith. Hell even the novels by Drew (love the Bane Novels btw Drew) were about SITH and Jedi. Bioware writes and creates about Jedi and Sith. Having 4 of the 8 possible classes as jedi and sith makes perfect sence.

Plus Bioware basically told you this was going to happen when they STRESSED the Jedi Knight was based on Mace W who was lightsaber first, force powers 2nd. It was obvious there was going to be a force power 1st player character coming.

I really dont get why some people so disappointed.

As I said, I understand why SWG players mad but Bioware said from get go there was going to be NO non combat classes so artisan and all that nonsence was never going to happen no matter how many posts got made. Again, "this (to quote Bioware) not a day in the life of Star Wars".

Now we know the classes, lets move on to more exciting things like game play, storylines, and DAoC RVR and how it fits in TOR.

SUPER PUMPED for game now This was by far the best "non released" Friday announcement in weeks.

and for those that STILL DONT GET IT. Jedi are common place here, the stories are mostly about Jedi and Sith. There is no rule of Two yet. The world is not going to implode because there is more then 10 jedi running around having fun! Dont like Jedi/Sith, there is 4 other classes you can play that dont have force powers. But of course a war between the Jedi and Sith were going to MOSTLY be fought by Jedi and Sith! Did you REALLY expect anything different? Seriously?
This Aint SWG2 and I couldnt be more happy! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Yes this is my Lightsaber color!

A Productive and Upbeat discussion on the great direction TOR heading

Well, everything shouldn't be defined by what you see in the movies. There are the background professions, or the professions that weren't in your face but were there. Medic was there, yeah, maybe no combat medic but there were definitely doctors in Star Wars. Droid or not, alot of the professions of the Pre-CU era of SWG made more since then the 9 iconic professions of the NGE era of SWG.

Hey now don't get bummed out. This is the way the game design system goes. I just hope for more classes as the game will mature over the years and BioWare is allowed the freedom to innovate without Lucas Arts holding them back.

The thing to remember is that SWTOR is set way before the movies, so Jedi/Sith were everywhere - which is a good thing. I believe that there is enough choice to keep every one interested and there's no doubt other classes will be released through expansions.

I think with MMOs - there have been too many classes/professions and then the dev team spend too much time balancing, and re-balancing all the time( just look at Star Wars Galaxies at launch - 34 professions!!!). 8 classes shouldnt create too much of a headache for the development team and the player base as the game progresses.
