That's ignoring the larger part of what made the NGE such a negative thing - lack of warning to prepare or get used to the changes. It was a huge mess, it wasn't as simple as "put in a bunch of things I don't like".

This is ultimately why any NGE comparison fails. It was really uniquely failtastic.

In the highly unlikely event all this "doom and gloom" turns out to be correct, the doomsayers can have endless fun saying "I told you so" as we all go off to play a different game. And then in whatever SW MMO replaces TOR, TOR devotees can troll by posting how New SWMMO is nothing compared to TOR.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

The shear volume of people who ignored the sentiment of the original post just to whine about "SWG" and "NGE" is mind boggling.

Considering the lack of information, they could easily do something they think players will like and have everyone hate it, it happens. Just to blindly declare "it won't happen" is amazingly naive. It probably won't happen, but none of you know anything beyond that.
Probably because it's an idiotic comparison. Don't overexaggerate the issue if you want to have a legitimate discussion. YOU compared it to SWG's NGE and then complained when the thread became all about that. You could have just posted in one of the other 600 threads wanting more information that you clearly aren't going to get until BW wants to release it.
I have opinions and stuff

OP knows "SWG," NGE," etc., are hot-button flame-/troll-bait words. His intentions are clear.

I do not really think this is the same as the NGE/CU. I think People use those terms too freely. They changed the basic structure of the game without warning just a few weeks after a paid expansion. THAT is what made the whole NGE so hard to swallow. Even a developer behind it stated that looking back it was a bad idea for that drastic a change (I think they should have shut the game down and released a new one personally). SWG was not perfect, it had issues (Although most exit interviews stated the reason for leaving was lack of content), and the NGE did not really fix it.

With the KOTFE we will have a strong storyline, something SWTOR has always stated as its Strongest Pillar. What changes is the content will be more geared toward solo play vs group play. I believe metrics show that large portion of the population solo play with some group play for things like flashpoints, ops, etc. There are always those who duo or group for class quests, but the bulk do not. This change in the game is not as drastic as changing the very nature of the game ala NGE.

So lest look at a worse case senario with KOTFE: You loose your current companions for its content. You have to solo the quest chain, the story is the exact same story for both factions with very minor changes based on class/faction.

Yet what we get is: Higher level OPS, PVP, etc. for group play. A strong storyline in the same vein as KOTOR and KOTOR 2. That means that the bulk of the game will still be the same, but it will be much more story focused and thus more solo focused on that aspect. YET there will still be stuff for grouping.

I don't think so.
Not that I don't disagree, but from what I have been able to gather CoH was still in fairly good shape, but was an aging game, so NC didn't really want to keep investing in a game that wasn't going to be growing too much any more. Not to mention the fact that GW2 was on the horizon and (purportedly) some of the CoH crew was shifted over to ArenaNet. Not that I subscribe to "Game X killed Game Y" conspiracy theories, I haven't really uncovered anything that specifically denies it either ....

Incorrect. SWG shut down in 2011, before Disney acquired LA and EA was awarded the rights to Star Wars (2013). The simple fact of the matter is that SWG was shut down because the game clearly was not going to be growing and it did not make financial sense to renew the license in 2012. EA and SWTOR had nothing to do with the matter. EA would have acquired their license for SWTOR circa 2005 and 2006, before BioWare began development.

The fact that we still care about the impact of the NGE SO MANY years later, only proves how great, and how loved SWG really was. If some developer could marry SWG to SWTOR, I think we would all manage mass ******s.

There are some madly obsessed people in this thread, but it's not who you think.
