City of Heroes players would beg to differ. However, SWG was not a money making product, hence the mutual decision between LA and SOE to shut it down.

Yes LA had a game in development - LA and BioWare are two separate entities and at the time LA was also a development studio in addition to the license holder of the Star Wars IP. It was the right time for SWG to end because it would not have been profitable to renew the license due to the small playerbase remaining in the game, with no signs of the game ever being able to increase said playerbase.

Sounds like a game in trouble if mergers were needed to shore up the prime-time player population ... you know the same kind of trouble that the haters constantly railed about on these very forums a couple of years ago. The last comment quoted is pretty much what was said during the closure of Vanguard as well.

^^^^ NOT About ur post.

Too tired to get into the Crap Company that SOE was, and still likely is. SWG probably had at least 500k subs Pre-CU, and Not 350.000 that a certain Press article from even maybe SOE itself might have put out. No MMO will ever be as GOOD as SWG was, even in the times of the CU.

SOE intentionally F'd up what was the Best MMO. No, I know Very well that SWG never had the 5 Million subs, then 10 Million subs that Stupid WoW did, but to me MOST Ppl are Idiots, and that's proof enough. Yes, I'm very aware that SWG had /bugs, but NOT even as bably as some lame brains claim, to be the Already death of the game. That a Bunch of Bull.

Ppl that just played NGE in that SW game, NEVER EVER PLAYED the REAL SWG, that was made, those ppl played a Whole Different game, and Never have a right to to say anything about SWG NGE being better, because they NEVER PLAYED it. For some stupid pathetic reasons they think they do have a right to say something about SWG when they don't. SWG and NGE, ARE 2 DIFFERENT GAMES.

When the CRAB-fested Powers that be at SOE decided to Make SWG into NGE. Even Us Subs did Not Know, but a few, like 10 ppl that knew the Devs out of 10s of Thousands............... Okay maybe 350,000 of us Did NOT KNOW that the NGE We Were Testing was going to be SWG, and that SWG would NO Longer Exist. I even Tested NGE, and the DEVS Said that NGE was ONLY FOR NEW Ppl.

Most of us Hated it with a Passion, even though Han Solo was there for getting you off ur Space Station for Levels 1-10. Sometimes less time. But Most of us also thought NGE was Cute ONLY for Beginners, and NOT for ANY Players Above Lvl 20 pretty much. AGAIN, NONE of us Subs Knew, but only a Few Ppl, that NGE would be Taking Over the GAME. ALL of Us Subs attacked those Ppl that Said NGE was TAKING OVER the Game.

SOE, was already being attacked by ALL KINDS of MEDIA, and Even UNIVERSITY Scholars, that Attacked SOE for Even the CU and a LOT of other things. MOST of the COMMUNITY, MEDIA, and the Scholars that knew about this game Were Already Saying how SOE was Being ABUSIVE To ITS COMMUNITY, and that was a FACT. When NGE took Over the Game.

The OUTCRY and ANGER over NGE Spilled into the the 3 Major Networks on Primetime. SOE, at the time of NGE No Longer cared about it's Subscriber Base, as ALL Negative Threads that were Even Constructive were Shutdown and the Subscriber wasThrown in the Trash Cans Literally. Only the Few Pro-NGE Threads stood.

The Customer OUTCRY Was So Bad, that SOE had to SHUT-DOWN All FORUMS for Days or More. For a Long Time, All that Ppl seemed to See, was The MODS and Even "SMELLY SMEDLEY" (President of SOE) even come in the FORUMS and REBUKE His Main Subscriber base.

SOE and BIOWARE are Very Different, even if the Game does change. Bioware Does NOT Inflame it's Subs like SOE always did, Nor does Bioware Censor every Negative Post.

BIOWARE Could Easily Censor, and Censure every Negative Post and Thread Like This 1. And Censure/Ban ppl just because some ppl, or even a Lot of ppl sometimes disagree with what OUR MMO Provider does.

But Bioware isn't like SOE............. Thank God. EDIT: Sorry, i'm really tired, so sorry about the Rough.

I honestly loved the NGE, it gave a very fun story to follow, which abruptly ended.....story is more important to be honest.

The NGE should only be associated with an Entirely different Game/Company.

I don't think so.
Well, it could have happened like this.

SOE is also currently working on a game similar to SWG: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014...galaxies-fans/
Haha yeah one game in ten years...that game must have been amazing...so far not a lot of fanfare for this game either so another sign nobody really cares.

Oh in case you didn't know...

So, pretty much like every SWG thread? Some people believe it was the next sliced bread, and nothing better ever happened.

SOE knew they couldn't compete (plus lic issues), so they shuttered the game in preparation for the SWTOR.

While the NGE was absolutely horrible, and ended a lot of rich complexity, the game actually got a lot stuff added to it over time (after NGE), and was quite a fun game by the end. Had the game been allowed to continue and the final very creative dev team been given a slightly better budget, then they would likely be doing great today.
^^^All of this^^^

To me the point is (and why NGE is relevant) that if the Devs make too many changes that diminish or (seemingly) nullify all the work a player has put into a game up until that point people will quit.

I thought SOE shut down SWG because EA got the exclusive license for Star Wars and Lucasfilm (at the time) did not want to Star Wars themed MMO's going at the same time.
