Bioware, please don't keep secrets. We Don't want an NGE

This place is like Pavlov's Dog.

You see "SWG" or "NGE" and you become immediately blind to anything else in the post and start foaming at the mouth.

The shear volume of people who ignored the sentiment of the original post just to whine about "SWG" and "NGE" is mind boggling.

Considering the lack of information, they could easily do something they think players will like and have everyone hate it, it happens. Just to blindly declare "it won't happen" is amazingly naive. It probably won't happen, but none of you know anything beyond that.

Either they are as stupid as SOE and thus a NGE could appear (whatever we can write) or they are smarter and thus understand that changing completely the mechanics of a 3 years old game is a bad idea and a sure way to alienate a good chunk of their playerbase.

I played it from launch, for a few months, then came back for a bit. And it "seems" to me that everyone railing on about it, has a very SERIOUS case of rose colored glasses when looking back on it. I would compare it to even the most miserable person is a "wonderful" guy when they are dead and in the ground.

The only thing it had going for it, was their hardcore, OCD players. That think it was the 2nd coming of the digital age or something. Yeah it had some cool elements to it, but it wasn't all that people who seem compelled to bend a knee to it believe it to be.

Said it before, and ill say it again.

Until I log in and find out they removed 3/4 the classes and make me turn my characters into whatever remains so they can be more "Iconic" i will laugh with great derision at anyone who starts claiming NGE.

As others have stated, the NGE was an attempt to stave of death, and it apparently worked.

Source? There was obviously a business reason for shutting it down.

Indeed I never played the game. My MMO at the time was DDO. I considered playing SWG but folks I talked to said it was awful. Now that could have been because they hated Star Wars in general or because I was asking in chat of another MMO, but that''s what I recall people telling me.

The fact that you apparently did play it and apparently did like it makes your opinion about why it shut down even more suspect.

Lol. Well said Pavlov. After all, it is you and the OP who are ringing the bell isn't? Wasn't your other thread basically the same thing? You weren't expecting a good discussion on the merits of the little info we know of the xpac.

If in any other part of your life you continued to complain and not be able to get over something that happened ten years ago, your friends and family would probably hold an intervention...thought this thread was a good place to put this...

They did the same thing with Vanguard and Wizardry Online. Point of fact both games released a road map for updates and content releases for the year ahead not one month before the closures were announced.

City of Heroes players would beg to differ. However, SWG was not a money making product, hence the mutual decision between LA and SOE to shut it down.

The decision to shut down SWG is first and foremost a business decision mutually agreed upon between SOE and LucasArts. LucasArts has a new game coming out, and the contract would be running out in 2012 anyway, so we feel like it's the right time for the game to end.
Yes LA had a game in development - LA and BioWare are two separate entities and at the time LA was also a development studio in addition to the license holder of the Star Wars IP. It was the right time for SWG to end because it would not have been profitable to renew the license due to the small playerbase remaining in the game, with no signs of the game ever being able to increase said playerbase.

Populations have stayed pretty steady for a long time now. In fact, we recently merged a bunch of servers to help the prime-time population. But gosh, the game's been running for a long time now, and it's been a great run. We're glad to have done it.
Sounds like a game in trouble if mergers were needed to shore up the prime-time player population ... you know the same kind of trouble that the haters constantly railed about on these very forums a couple of years ago. The last comment quoted is pretty much what was said during the closure of Vanguard as well.

NCSoft guy 1:CoX is making a lot of money for us.
NCSoft guy 2: Let's shut them down, then.
NCSoft guy 3: Great idea.

I don't think so.
