The competition looks a lot like doing the things it takes to get 50 mil. You're going to chain run dailies, chain run flash points, and craft a lot. If they won't do those things to get the 50 mil, they won't do those things for the competition either.

This whole idea started from me seeing a lot an F2P and casual guilds who want to try out conquest. Having a smaller neutral ship could say have no invasion bonuses but still be able to try conquest and this will give insentive to spend the 50mil if they really enjoy conquest. The more people try and enjoy conquest it will allow bioware to keep adding fresh new content.

*stands in the lobby handing out pretty "Participation" ribbons for everyone that wants something for no effort*

Many tiny guilds can and have purchased their guild ships already. The ones that haven't done so already are the ones who couldn't be bothered putting in any effort at all.

Anything that rewards lack of effort in favor of whining is a bad thing.

Yes, my lil Junior lost the competition because he didn't even try, but he deserves to be rewarded just like the kids who went all out and tried their hardest!

I'm in, definitely. A smaller, less expansive ship I'd love to see. We all know those guilds won't make it to the leaderboard, but who cares ? For the sole purpose of RP, I'm in, and there's many other benefits.

casuals and F2Ps CAN participate in Conquest, just not the Guild Conquests, which require a ship. Personal Conquests are still viable, and nobody is stopping anyone from pursuing that.

The THC-sith is simply invalidating all the hard work a guild has done BEFORE the guild ship and conquests were even released. I would have loved to have - as an active subscriber and guild member for years - a free guild ship. As a reward for my previous work. To have me and many other ppl. work again for even participating is exactly what TUXs is arguing: very hindering.

And just to clarify for the THC-infused-darksider: we are a small guild, have a guild ship and ended up 2nd in the conquest for last week^^ - All that BECAUSE we had a shot at it... otherwise I probably would have left the game by now (since there is - at least for the moment - not much other things for me to do...)

(and now back to topic!)
  • Give the ship away for free (even if it is only a small shuttle) with the entry to conquests
  • Determine conquest bonus (multiplier) depending on guild ship size.
  • Change ship when you can afford it (and thus increase your chance on the conquests)

After all, a guild now can have a Headquarter (Stronghold) too. Why not a second ship? Why not change ship? (The programming code is already there - you can deactivate a stronghold if you move house for example...)

Define hard work that a guild has done before? Just having played the game isn't necessarily "hard work"; they already decided that the previous work they cared about was who had 50 mil accumulated as a guild. 50 mil is somewhere in that grey area of not too hard and not too easy. It's that additional effort required which I stand by; I still feel that being reasonable for gating.

I think you are a medium guild if you took 2nd place (unless you were pounding away at crafting), but you had a shot at it because you are the type of players that had 50 million to unlock the ship... if you were a guild that didn't have 50 mil, you probably wouldn't have had the player base (quantity and activity) to have a shot. It's a catch 22.

  • Still believe there is nothing wrong with it not being super cheap or free to enter. See points above.
  • Variable bonuses would just make the conquest system overly complicated. Keep it simple.
  • I would prefer that you merely add ships to your guilds mini-fleet. Add new content to the game that is affected by fleet strength. Perhaps an operation with a puzzle boss based on calling in orbital bombardments and starfighter strikes (not dark project ones) and having more ships in your fleet means lower cooldown or more simultaneous activations. You assign a guild member to be the "Captain" of each ship to give them the orbital striking ability.
  • Along the lines of the previous bullet, adding of open world pvp areas where guild fleet strength is improved.

I'd rather people throw ideas around instead of continuing the talk of, "Guild flagship price too unfair!" whines...

Guilds would have, and did, say the same thing about guild banks. OH NOES! 600K IS TOO EXPENSIVE! GIMME FREE! But, alas, guild banks still require 12 characters and 600k. And, shockingly, guilds don't come here to complain about it any more.

I have 2 guilds, actually. Well, 4. I have the main characters that I play in a real guild with a real guild ship that is competitive in conquests.

I have another guild for which I've chosen not to purchase a guild ship for the characters I don't play any more.

When I log into characters in that second guild - the one without the guild ship - I still get the Conquest Tab on my quest log. Within that Conquest Tab, I still get the list of all the things I can do to earn extra Conquest Points.

Do you know what the sole difference is? Because I don't have a Guild Flagship with which to invade a planet, none of the Conquest Bonus Activities is green - none of their points are doubled.

So let's be very, perfectly, succinctly clear. When you're decrying your choice not to earn a guild ship, you are decrying your choice to:

1) Not get bonus points on the conquest objectives
2) Prevent yourself from ever entering onto the leader board for conquest
3) Not get the minimal bonus that operating on a planet under you guild ship offers

And that's it. You can still do all of the conquest stuff, unhindered. No content is blocked. None. Zero. You even get to earn the rewards for completing your personal conquest objectives for the week, if your decision to be effort-free doesn't prevent that, too.

Stop complaining when your choice of inaction produces predictable results. Earn the ship if you want the benefits. It's not out of reach of anyone. (not you, the person whom I quoted, but you in the general sense, because you actually did earn the flagship, right?)

Agreed. Entry level ship to guild content...GREAT content at that! Content that makes logging in have reason. Guild ships promote everything Bioware should be striving to promote:
• longer play
• guild activities
• use of existing content
• sense of accomplishment
• tighter community
• need to play
• weekly goals for players
• cartel market purchases for deco items
• increased queue pops for all activities
...there is no negative to them handing out free ships to allow everyone to participate, in fact, it's foolish that they don't. It could only help this game.

Could you please list the content that you think can only be done with a guild ship?

(I don't think I'd count seeing your name on a leader board as content, but anyone who won't earn a guild ship won't do what it takes to get on the leaderboard anyway, so that's a wash.)
