Game Testing - Issues Signing Up [Oct 1, 2009] | 10.01.2009 , 08:01 AM
If you haven't noticed it, we announced that we are currently accepting sign-ups for our Game Testing program. If you haven't had a chance yet, please view our Game Tester Frequently Asked Questions.

We recognize and have heard from some of you that there are some difficulties in registering with us, and want you to know that we are working to provide you with ongoing solutions. We will be updating this post regularly with new information.
  • Will signing up today increase my chances of being selected to test Star Wars: The Old Republic?
No, we will be selecting testers from the Star Wars: The Old Republic community based on various requirements such as systems specifications, age, and region. The order in which you sign up for testing has no bearing on the selection process.
  • When I fill out the personal data, it sends me back to the Game Tester Terms & Conditions.
Please ensure that all information is filled out in your BASIC account info and that you have selected (radio button) "Yes, I would like to be considered for testing."
  • The system scan isn't working properly.
Please make sure to have the most recent version of Java installed on your computer (you may have to restart your browser if you install or update Java). Also, ensure that you are accepting the ActiveX request at the top of the page.
  • I'm using Windows Vista but the System Scan doesn't appear to be working
We have not been able to verify this ourselves, but numerous users running Vista have said that installing Service Pack 1 has alleviated their issues with the System Scan utility.

My problem was that it never stopped scanning.
The solution was installing Service Pack 1 to my Vista 32-bit.

    The scan took 2 seconds.
  • I am getting stuck on accepting the Terms of Service.

  • I am unable to get past the Account Information Page when signing up for Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Testing. It continues to loop.
We are currently working on a resolution to this issue. You may also wish to fill in the alternate phone number, listed as phone (other), as it has rectified this issue for some users. Also, many community members have been recommending the following:

We are investigating this issue. Currently it appears as if you update each piece individually through "My Account", you can bypass this issue.
    • Go to My Account.
    • Select "Yes, I would like to be considered for testing." (Radio Button) and a save.
    • From My Account, go to "System Specifications" and click on the "Update" button.
    • From My Account, go to Contact Info and click on the "Edit" button.
  • I am not able to submit my system scan information.
Please make sure you are using one of the following supported browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0+ and Firefox 3.0+. We also recommend enabling JavaScript, ActiveX, and using the latest browser plug-ins for Adobe Flash Player.
  • I receive an error message stating that my Phone Number is too long.
You only need to enter your city code and the phone number. The formatting isn't important. If you've used the international country code (i.e. 0049 or +49 for Germany), it may be that the number is too long.
  • When I have to re-do the Contact Information after being sent back to the Terms & Conditions, the Country is always reset to the United States.
This is a known issue. Please make sure, that you're entering your respective country on every try (Germany, Swiss or Austria), to be selected for the according test phases!
  • I have not received my validation email yet when attempting to sign up.
The Old Republic community members using either Hotmail or Yahoo email providers may not be receiving transactional emails at this time. This includes validation and password recovery emails. We are looking into the situation and will update you when we can.
  • I have not received an email after signing up.
An email is not sent out when you have finished signing up. You will see a congratulations message on the Tester Portal, though.

If you are having a problem that isn't listed above or none of the above fixes the issue you are having, please reply here. Also, please be as detailed as possible in your post, specifying what browser and operating system you are using (to include what version).

UPDATE: The team is still working on various solutions for the looping issue that some users are experiencing. Your patience is appreciated while we are working on this. And remember, the order in which an individual signs up has no bearing on who gets chosen for testing.

ialsoagree has a great thread of known solutions, too. Check it out, he may have addressed something we have not here:

I'd recommend using FireFox to sign up, as IE8 isn't one of the supported browsers. Failing that, there are a handful of community fixes, such as this one, that may assist you in attempting the signup process with Internet Explorer 8.

Everything seems to work but I'm not sure. After the system scan pulls up all my computer info and I push the submit information button it sends me back to the Testing Terms and Conditions page. Is this supposed to happen?

Edit - I went into my account info and it said my system scan wasn't complete. I clicked the button and submitted it again and it said complete now. Hoping to hear soon that I get to test stuff.

If you get stuck in the agreement / information loop, submit the info form without any information on it first.

Then fill in only the fields it tells you to at the top when it refreshes (in text, ignore the yellow stars).

Then submit the form again and you should go to the scan.

You can later fill out the rest of the fields on your account page.

This has been confirmed to work by many, so unless they've fixed it I'll post this here on the first page.

I Tried signing in via Firefox, it kept looping me back to the Terms page after filling in my info, randomly logging me out, unable to log in except from the main page.
After a few times i tried the same in Internet Explorer. [which had the same problems]
I got past the edit information page in IE finally, started the scan, then got looped back to Terms again. After 2 more times it finally got me trough it and i am now signed up... but seriously, what the hell?

To check if your application has been submitted properly, please either go to the testing hub or use the My Account button. The hub will give you a message as to whether your application has been submitted, and the My Account page will list Contact Info and System Specifications with a little checkmark beside both options.

Cool, thanks. I wanted to make sure they knew, being as how they already do that's good news.

Well, this is just as good of a place to post this as any:

I managed to get my beta sign-up to go through after having significant difficulty with the process yesterday. It worked fine today though, so here I will highlight what my problem was, what browser I was using, and how I fixed it.

Browser:
Firefox 3.0 with various plug ins (IE tab, ActiveX just to name a few)

The Problem: I was having trouble getting to my account to alter the "Interest in Beta" option. Whenever I entered my info to get to my account info, I would get kicked to the forum account sign-up page. I would enter my old info to try to log into my account, only to be kicked back to the same page.

The Solution: Using firefox, I went to tools -----> clear recent history ---> everything.

I then clicked "forgot password" and typed in the email address I have registered with this site.

Logged into my email account and clicked the link in the email this site sent me to reset my password. I kept the same password info as I had before, but you guys can change it if you want.

Go to "My Account" again and login using your email and password (the new one if you changed passwords).

From here you should be able to access your basic account info now. Click the "yes, I'm interested in beta" option and click "Update."

Now, this is kinda an important bit, you get sent to the beta test user agreement screen. Above the user agreement, there should be a small black text box with white lettering saying "Your account has been updated successfully".

Cool beans right? now agree to the user agreement, and enter your extra info for the beta signup screen, fill out every text box (including the second address line and second phone number, also with the phone number, don't include any dashes or anything like that.) Click "update" or whatever you need to click and it should send you to the scan page.

Make sure you have ActiveX installed. (If you don't the blue holobar the droid is projecting should turn yellow, and you should be prompted at the top of the page to install activeX right on the spot.) If you do, the scan should take a few seconds, not very long at all. Once that is done, it might send you back to the user agreement page, but don't worry, your info should all be saved, all you're doing at this point is confirming what you put into the info page.

Do the scan again, it should take less time than it did at first, click finish and poink! you are signed up for beta now... WOOT!!!

Hope this helps at least a few people
