Bad Business Model or Ok?

There were a lot more players in the first few weeks of SWTOR's launch than there were 2-3 months later. New games always have a lot of players in the first few weeks that won't stick around. There will always be less people who would be willing to spend 2-3 years playing a game than checking out a new game for 2-3 weeks. This is basically the same thing that was said after Diablo 3, Guild Wars, ESO and half a dozen other games...and here we still are. Frankly, this far into SWTOR, the MMO flavor of the month people are probably mostly already long gone from the game. Some people might check out other games but it's not really a big deal.....can't expect people to play this game for 80 hours every single week. I'm here because I love Star Wars. So unless a new Star Wars MMO is introduced, I won't be leaving this game. I couldn't care less about Wildstar. I have zero interest in it. Checked out a video about it for a couple of minutes and it looks like it was designed for 13 year old kids with A.D.D. hopped up on Red Bull.

In other words ------> the center of the bell-curve distribution of the MMO player base these days.

On a more serious note.... /Agree with you.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

did you seriously pull out Gaussian distribution?what the 5 people on here who probably understand that especially given the RNG haters threads. Might as well drop something like 6 sigma and watch heads explode.

I've avoided this thread for one simple reason...asking if a billion dollar company has a bad business model is rather stupid..we would know, since they would be gone overnight.

If the game wasn't making an acceptable profit, I don't think any of us would be here, tbh.

Classes that made little to no sense because getting them was an ultra grind. Three health bars?

Even the developers have come forward to say the game was dead: D-E-A-D. Large portions of the market left for more accessible, more streamlined games. SWG was left with the last few 1000s of people who thought SWG was something worth playing.

The "we" that people like Ashek speak about are nothing more than the very vocal people who post on forums at one of the worst MMO forums on the planet (in terms of community, discussion, etc).
Oh don't get me started. I played the game off and on throughout it's lifespan, and had friends just like that. Calling it a trainwreck would be an understatement. Reminds of the time there was a question asked in just about every thread here: "Would you be playing this game if it was not Star Wars?"

The ironic thing about that was that it was mostly asked by SWG fanbois, and the irony being that had SWG not been Star Wars, the game would have been dead before the first month was over. The only thing, and I mean the only thing that kept it going for as long as it did was because it was Star Wars.

exactly

not that im sticking up for EA and SW:TOR as they have made a huge amount of mistakes in this game since closed beta (things seem better recently) but WS, ESO, GW2, what ever. Just FotM fandom as everyone checks out the new shinny.

ESO imo was a bigger threat because ESO really did steal the legitimate PVP crowd as ESO RVR is hands above SW:TORs kiddy side game Warzones.
But ESO interface bites as does its PVE.

With Wildstar, the graphics alone make it a non starter for me.
Barely even looked at the systems because I just dont see myself accepting those Saturday morning cartoon graphics long enough to truly try the game.

I will never play a game just because it has great graphics but appearently I will write a game off completely for having bad unacceptable graphics.

WS will have the hot buzz till week-month after release and suddenly people will start complaining and what not and bailing from the title.

Who knows if EA will do enough to truly grab people back to SW:TOR though.
That remains to be seen.
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it

I was more referring to the mods than the armor. Seriously, artifact rated equipment is the exact same as custom rated equipment until you get to the mods, which is where all the extra points come in.

What part of cybertech requires the CM? I have a 450, and it's been a while since I started, so I may have forgotten, but I don't recall having to hit the CM for anything so that I could learn to craft my own mods and armors.

I have been playing another MMO but I am going to tell you that SWTOR is not bad at what it is. A casual, mainly PvE, Star Wars MMO. The problem, if any, might be that they spent too much developing it for all it to be is this in a market that I feel is over-saturated and the customers are rarely satisfied.

It's a plight of all MMOs who dream big but then the reality of it is that they do not hold the sub count of the game they hope they can match in WoW so they should stop developing MMOs with delusions of grandeur and a budget to match. Games need to focus on their niche and I think SWTOR is probably doing a decent job of that. Maybe they sometimes try a little too hard to add some extras in there if anything; slowing their progress for that PvE and Star Wars immersion.
