SW:TOR Beta Announcement for 10/2/2009! | 09.28.2009 , 10:48 AM
A Possible SW:TOR Beta Announcement This Friday

Note: Way too many people are jumping to conclusions with this thread. I have seen many replies questioning the possibility of a beta this early. Please read the post before responding. If you do not want to read the whole thing, atleast read "On the Other Hand...". Thankyou.

A few folks earlier this morning (around 11:30 AM Central on September 28th, 2009) went to the SW:TOR home page to see a surprising new feature. These select people got to see, for a split second, a link to TEST Star Wars: The Old Republic. While no actual screencap was taken, here are a few RSS Screenshots from some very generous community members. Be sure to thank them! [Times are based off of Central American time, outside Austin, TX.]

This heavily suggests that there will be a SW:TOR Beta announced this friday.

My apologies to the Dev's if i'm spoiling a surprise

On the Other Hand...

Please bear in mind that if this is indeed a foreshadowing to the SW:TOR beta, it will most likely be a Closed Beta based on the wording in the Screencaps above. Very few people will get the chance to test SW:TOR in the event of a closed beta! Do not get your hopes up.

Also - Beta signup is not the same as Beta itself. There will be a 1 to 2 month gap between this announcement (If it happens) and the start of the Beta. There is plenty of time for the rest of the classes to be announced, it will be rushed, but it can very well happen. Planets and Levels do not need to be complete. Both the betas of Aion and WAR included certain parts of the game at certain intervals. Please do not rule this out because "Not enough has been announced yet."

So please do not load this thread with "Oh my god, SW:TOR comes out in like a month!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!"

Even if it was starting now, betas usually take 5-8 months depending on the game.

Again, please remember that none of this has been confirmed by anyone working with Bioware.

Devs: Please do not merge this thread with the other Beta discussion thread. This thread is merely for speculation about the glitch that was seen on September 28, 2009 and not the Beta as a whole. Thankyou.

Evidence of Credibility

A lot of people are asking if this is true, or if it is just a hoax. While it is possible that this is all a joke, There are a few reasons why this is very likely a true leak:

The main reason is that it was posted around 11:25 AM. This would be a strange time for some "Troll" and his buddies to create such a fuss, with most of their potential victims at work or school.

This applies to BW as well. The time when most of the people in the country are away from the forums is the perfect time to test the link of such secretive content. They have to do it sometime!

This, however, does not rule out that this was just a joke. Please stay attentive and be aware that you could be falling for a giant trick.

Concerns About Multiple Threads

I made this thread for the single purpose of giving a more organized place to express opinions, as the previous thread was cluttered and had a very in-descriptive OP. I apologize for repeating a post, It was only in the interest of giving a more serious look to the thread.

The other thread is still open and includes many jokes about the Beta and random discussion. This thread was made to be more serious and to let people know about the Beta through a straight title. If it really bothers people that much, I will delete it.

Thanks a ton to neowelt, the creator of the original thread and initial conveyer of this info.

Thanks in advance for feedback on this subject. Stay tuned.

Edit: This thread has made itself known to the folks over at Darthhater.com, and will be featured in an upcoming podcast. Thanks a ton for all the replies and support everyone, and of course the screenshots themselves!

Attention: 'The Beta "Slip-up": The Poll' has been created, discussing the beta leakage as far as beliefs and doubts go. Please make sure to check it out and post what you think, and be sure to check out 'The Beta "Slip-up": The Poll: The Movie" based on the epic events which happened in the thread, and 'The Beta "Slip-up": The Poll: The Movie: The Game" based on the movie.

Thanks!

My apologies to the Dev's if i'm spoiling a surprise This is not confirmed. Please use this thread for speculation about The Glitch. This is not a Beta discussion thread, and I would prefer that it not be merged with the original Beta Thread. Thankyou.

Posted in another thread but my question would be, was it an intentional or accidental leak?

This would be great if true, although seems a bit early to start beta. Then again if your right and it will take them 2-3 months to pick the people they want then I could see that being about the right time frame.

We definitely don't need multiple threads about the same subject. I'm sure Bioware is a bit ashamed/annoyed/embarassed they leaked this info. Hopefully they just roll with it, but don't push their buttons too much by creating thread after thread.
Kill: it's such a friendly word.
