With all those toons you could do some serious RP.

Adding a toggle to turn it off definitely impacts everyone - that's developer effort that should go into features that a lot of players will find useful. Not so 7 players who can't figure out how to wear empty shell gear and dismiss their companions can feel better about themselves.
It makes role playing impossible, which is what swtor is all about for a great many players. Adding a toggle takes a few seconds to do. A child could do it. You do not know how many people want the option to not participate in double xp, but judging by the complaints I see in game and in the forums here and elsewhere it is a sizable number. There is no feature in swtor that is more important to me than the ability to not participate in double xp events when I log in.

EDIT: I should not have said a child could code for it. I do not code for swtor or an mmo, but I have coded in several different languages for a number of years and provided the coder was organized and not sloppy in his coding it shouldn't be too hard to do and should only take a few seconds. The basic framework of the code to allow in any of a number of ways for a player to opt out of double xp is already in place.

Would you mind clarifying this point for me.

How does double xp make role playing impossible?

It is difficult to explain to someone that is not into immersion gaming like myself, but when you suddenly get through planets much faster than previously and get access to stories that you did not really earn it changes the focus of the game from story to xp. The change in focus is not slight either.

If you enjoy role playing like I do then I suggest going from sub to preferred, but get all of the unlocks first (section x, rothc, etc.). It really helps with role playing and is actually a lot of fun. The reason I am subbed is kinda silly, but I find it marginally better. Sometimes I want a subscriber pet or vehicle, but I am looking forward to temporarily unsubbing again in the near future.

Then, again, when you have to inanely kill 20 of this and 15 of that to earn the quest bonuses in every area so you don't fall behind on the XP, and can actually manage to get through the game to the nuggets of interesting content... I dunno, sometimes the endless and mindless getting through the mobs, particularly on the later, less frequented planets (and the mobs that don't care if there is 20 or 160 players out there!) is so tiring that when you finally get to that cutscene you either do not have time to enjoy it properly (if you are playing on the clock and have to attend to many other obligations you have) or just want to be done with it. And since you can't 'save' right before the conversation, and quitting means redoing the stupid dungeon again... yeah.

The 2x XP are something I do look forward to. It comes not too often, and is just nice to play like KOTOR again. And it does have a nice RP feel to it to just BLAST things out of the way with your enormous power instead of hanging onto every hit point or having a strategy of "Okay, if I can take the adds out on my first death, I might be able to finish off the boss before I die again. Maybe."

we see this all the time.someone complains that there isnt enough challenge and are told many different ways to create challenge. the refuse and insist that it be forced on everyone. in reality, they want to impose their wishes on the player base. it isnt about their challenge, its about every one elses.

Did you realize that you lose all credibility when you make statements like that? If it took only seconds, it would probably be there already. I don't care how much you say you have coded, that's the reality.

I do have an idea how many people want the option to not participate in double xp. It's the vast, vast, super-minority of users. They have also not stated a rational reason for wanting 2xp that they cannot solve for themselves. It's pretty much, "I don't want to do any of those other super easy things to solve my problem for myself so BioWare please put in all this extra effort to solve that problem for the 7 of us who can't possibly be troubled to fix things for ourselves."

Double xp comes all the time and now we have a whole week of it coming up .

It is not about whether you like double xp or not. I agree that it is a great thing too. The problem is that unlike other events you can't get away from it. If you log in you are forced to participate. It is there even if you unsubscribe. I would gladly pay to have xp decreased or have double xp turned off on my characters.

2XP=My characters turn from exceptionally powerful beings into "Super Saiyan 4 fusion" powered beings. For an entire week, I'll be able to play like I've got an "invincibility" cheat code. It also gives me a chance to play the classes I suck at playing lol. I've got 3 characters who ONLY get played during 2XP. I don't care about my games being challenging. Most of my console games I play on easy anyway. I get enough challenges daily controlling the urge to smack the sugar honey ice tea outta folks looking at me sideways.

If bads in PvP disrupt your gameplay, then playing PvP will always disrupt your gameplay. There will always be bads. And the bads aren't going to opt out of 2xp anyway.
Epic reply!!! 100% accurate imo.
