Imp Makeb was just ok. Agent Story was excellent. If that's the case then, I hope he is one of the writers Eric Musco brought my criticisms to.

You know I don't mind correcting people so these types of posts don't bother me at all.

I just wish, though, that some of the energy that the community is wasting on stuff that BioWare has already clearly declined to do could be spent on something more creative that BioWare actually might consider doing.

There's a lot of passion for this game here on these forums. There is a lot of creativity. Wouldn't it be interesting to see what the community would come up with if only it could move past things that will never happen?

Do you know the definition of insanity? (Or one of them...)
Try this on for size: NO.
They haven't said, "No," They've said, "Not at this time."

But "someone like you" would be too dense to tell the difference in those statements.

The problem is that at some point, even though it was on wall of crazy, there were always people like you if not you specifically, telling other people that those things on the list will never happen, and claiming the devs said they will never happen, or that the devs will never do it.

The community is a very reliably poor source of what the devs can and will do, and what they won't and can't do.

Which is why acting like an authority on it just comes off arrogant when someone puts people down as they say "the devs won't do that." Because it becomes a question of "how do you know?" since many people have come before and said "the devs won't do xyz" while putting someone down, only for xyz to happen at a later date.

You mean things that weren't going to happen like guild ships? Player housing? More robust space-based gameplay?

People should be able to decide for themselves if they are 'wasting' time by asking for something. If class story (or class-related content to whatever extent) is what they want to see in the game, they aren't "wasting" their time by making that known. Class story is clearly still important to quite a large number of people.

I don't see why people feel they need to pretend to be knowledgeable arbiters of what people should and should not want in the game. I think pazaak would be pointless to add, for example, but you don't see me trying to shout down the people who do want it and telling them they're wasting their time.

Edit: I don't think there's anything wrong with, say, noting that the developers have said "no class story for now" or that they're unlikely to do [x] because of [y].

Yeah, those "not at this time" statements is what kept me having hope for class stories for a long time - because its not an outright no, which is what at the time I felt I needed from them.

Now though, I think in reference to class stories, its just a CYA for the team in the event something radically changes down the road and they do end up taking it up again.

All that said, that doesn't mean they can't do a better job of injecting class story flavor into the faction stories other than some cursory shout out at the beginning of the quest that is soon forgotten about.

Precisely.

None of us are developers. So none of us know.

Hell, with guild ships, they put out there that it was on wall of crazy and if it ever got done, it would be REALLY far out, and stuck with that message...right up until the time they announced it was in.

They sometimes actually lie to us to throw us off the track. I don't condone it, but its happened.

Did they say "no" to those things in your first line or did they say, "Wall of Crazy". Class stories aren't even on Wall of Crazy right now, last I heard.

And you mistake my motivations. I argue against more story that is class-focused because I think it's bad for the game. It will produce stories that are far too short and simple as compared with faction based stories. It will require people to play classes they may not enjoy the mechanics of to see it. It will create a less positive experience overall for the game.

I argue against people continuously harping on the subject because it's been answered already.

I also think it's really silly for anyone to require that the word "story" be preceded by the word "class" for them to consider it "good". That's a huge mind-flip right there, both unfortunate and frightening.
