Cuiwe
NOTICE: This thread is on pause as of Monday, August the 18th! I want to help all the newbies around here by steering them in the right direction, so I decided to do this little project. Can't hurt now can it ? With that said, let's get to the meat and taters eh? Here's how we'll do it: you'll answer a set of questions so both we and you yourself become aware of what it is that you are truly looking for in a class. It's fairly easy, but please be honest to yourself first and to us second. Ok, now for the questions: How important is the following to you: Defence: 1-10 Support(Healing): 1-10 Damage: 1-10 Light Side(Good+Lawful alignments): 1-10 Dark Side(Evil+Chaotic alignments): 1-10 Empire: 1-10 Republic: 1-10 Lightsabers: 1-10 The Force: 1-10 Tech Gadgets: 1-10 Guns(Blasters, Snipers, etc): 1-10 Armour: Light(robes)-Medium(leather/uniforms)-Heavy(plaSTEEL) Dual Wielding: Yes-No Big Weapons(two handed): Yes-No Stealth: Yes-No Method of damage: Direct-Over Time Scope of damage: Single Target-Multi Target(Area) Favourite SW character: <insert name>-none Prior MMO experience/liked class(es)/etc: <insert class(es)>-none Edited August 17, 2014 by Cuiwe

Cuiwe
Which mage/druid/warrior? Talent trees yeh. This is the important question. Cuiwe
If you switched over to the balance seer, that'd be quite like balance druid. It's got a lot of CC, so it'd be akin to the Ice as well(Pinning Resolve <3). That one should be your main. As for the second, it'll be a Marauder. Carnage Marauder. I'll explain why in ~30 minutes. Here is why: You probably played a Fury Warrior in wow. You know two weapons? Not only that, but you actively said that you wanted sth in the middle. While Carnage is pretty shifted towards damage spectrum, it still has nice Defensive mechanics(6s cd interrupt, Cloak of Pain etc) coupled with an awesome ability you get in 40s I think(Bloodlust I think it's called. The equivalent of Sent's inspiration and yes there is a reason why it has staggering THREE MINUTES cd) that will output an unusual amount of support. Combat/Carnage is the most difficult of all Sent/Mara trees though. There is an additional reason why I steered you in that way. You see, both the Carnage and Qui Gon use the same stance: Ataru stance or the more formal name: Form IV. Besides, it's the archetypical stance from the movies(I am more of a Makeshi/Soresu type of guy). Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Luke all used it. Oh and it's as direct as it comes(only Sniper is more direct lol). In short: Sith Warrior-Sith Marauder-Carnage. Enjoy! MarkMarakus
Hey mate, thanks! Just a thing though I wondered how you came up with a sith and then I saw I switched my Empire and Republic answer so I prefer Republic over Empire I am not sure yet to switch my main to balanced I might though. My Druid was my least favourite character, first was Mage then Warrior (indeed Fury it was) then my Druid. For my coming character I am having doubts between Smuggler and Trooper, what would you suggest? PS: I will keep Sith Marauder in my mind for my third character though
Cuiwe
Based on your specs the Jedi Sentinel-Combat would be just perfect(the equivalent of Carnage Mara). If you just insist on either Trooper or smuggler, I'd have to say Trooper because Scoundrel smuggler is eliminated(no to stealth) and Gunslinger, well, you've gotta really like damage in order to play him. He is eliminated as well. This leaves the Trooper. For a jack of all trades, I'd have to say Commando, which seems is what you want. Vanguard is ok as well, but sth tells me you don't want to go melee with trooper. I'd still HIGHLY suggest Combat Sentinel and if not, a hm..., Gunnery Commando(this is very akin to the Arcane mage-any thoughts on that one?). That's that. ravenlordg
I have 3-4 characters at the moment, nothing special between 20-30 lvl, and of course i cant choose one to main and finally enjoy the game, so i guess i need help Defence: 4 Support(Healing): 7 Damage: 9 Light Side(Good+Lawful alignments): 6 Dark Side(Evil+Chaotic alignments): 7 Empire: 4 Republic: 6 Lightsabers: 6 The Force: 4 Tech Gadgets: 7 Guns(Blasters, Snipers, etc): 8 Armour: Heavy Dual Wielding: Neutral Big Weapons(two handed): No Stealth: Neutral Method of damage: Direct Scope of damage: Multi-target Favourite SW character: both Fetts and Han Prior MMO experience/liked class(es)/etc: affliction lock and combat rogue (wow) / Champion (lotro) / Warrior and Engineer (gw2)
Cuiwe
Right away! So you want a character with at least avg Defence and good support abilities and awesome damage potential. Dark side tendencies on the Pub side and with Blasters pref. Seeing how you said no to the big weapons that rules out the Commando and you should go Merc. They are independent anyways so the fact that they are CURRENTLY allied with the Empire shouldn't bother you. It has most of the things you ask for. Plus if I am right you are yet another Fandalorian so... . You get to shoot a guy and Heal him xD Result: Bounty Hunter-Mercenary-Arsenal

ravenlordg
i gave a Merc a try and i have to admit does suit my playstyle, wanted to ask though would playing a Sage be a lot different? doesnt have the heavy armor of the merc but i d be able to rdps and heal effectively wouldn't i? my friends and gf wont change sides hehe so i guess ill need a second character to play with them, and keep my BH for pvp and when. I guess my question is would playing a Sage be THAT different ?
The-Uncreative
Assuming that the scale 1-10 goes Hate (1) to Love (10) with (5) as middle ground, my answers are thus: Defence: 3 Support(Healing): 8 Damage: 6 Light Side(Good+Lawful alignments): 7 Dark Side(Evil+Chaotic alignments): 5 Empire: 7 Republic: 5 Lightsabers: 6 The Force: 8 Tech Gadgets: 8 Guns(Blasters, Snipers, etc): 7 Armour: Undecided Dual Wielding: Yes Big Weapons(two handed): No (but only Giant swords) Stealth: Yes Method of damage: Direct Scope of damage: Single Target Favourite SW character: Chancellor Palpatine Prior MMO experience/liked class(es)/etc: -none Edited March 25, 2014 by The-Uncreative
Cuiwe
@raven: My impression of sage as opposed to merc is that sage is way more brain-y and specialised. Such as: Sages have no ranged auto attack(just imagine what this does to the energy management :/ ), no energy refill ability, the talent trees are way more specialised than mercs etc). Plus, merc can Heal just ok-and then some. The very thing I mentioned earlier about energy suffocates the Healer sage as well. Nice burst healing, but I'd suggest Merc in any case. If you don't want to switch, you can always play Commando if you are ok with assault cannon(I guess that you could use Rifle). The same as merc but 2H instead of dual wield, Pub instead of Emp and L.S tendencies instead of D.S tendencies(you can still be quite ruthless as a mando{think Lawful Evil} and quite Honourable/good{sth to the effect of the Chaotic Good} as a merc). That's that. Try mando. P.S. The sage is all about the force(the lowest between all the weapon choices when talking about you). @uncreative: You are so difficult to pin down lol. Like a book that meanders all over the place lol. Your role ratings, with your Force rating and the Fav character steer you heavily towards the Sorceror. Then again, the Healing + DPS combo when viewed through the gadget prism lends itself heavily toward the merc. Oh and dual wielding as well. And then the stealth pops out. The easiest way would be to list two Emp healers + a Scoundrel. The difficult part would be ranking them. This is where the flavour helps. Your favouring of Palpatine(can't fault you-a brilliant character which becomes ever more awesome the more you watch the movies) suggests that the sorc story could very well interest you. Not only story, but both Corruption(Healing) and Madness(DoT) just reek of Sidious. Therefore the results: 1. Sith Inquisitor-Sith Sorceror-Corruption or Madness 2. Bounty Hunter-Mercenary-Bodyguard 3. Smuggler-Scoundrel-Sawbones(play this one sorta dark-ish and independent and you should be just fine) Enjoy yourselves! Seireeni
I already have a huge number of alts, but I'm curious about what you would recommend to me, so I fill this anyway if you don't mind. (And maybe you can help me decide which alts I should prioritize over others) I'm assuming 0 = not important and 10 = very important Defence: 2 Support(Healing): 5 Damage: 7 Light Side(Good+Lawful alignments): 5 Dark Side(Evil+Chaotic alignments): 6 Empire: 9 Republic: 4 Lightsabers: 5 The Force: 7 Tech Gadgets: 7 for knives, 2 for everything else (not sure if knives are counted to this, though) Guns(Blasters, Snipers, etc): 7 Armour: Medium (not a game breaker though, since there's adaptive armor) Dual Wielding: Doesn't matter Big Weapons(two handed): Doesn't matter if the weapon itself isn't huge (like some assault cannons) Stealth: Nice to have but I can live without Method of damage: Again, burst is nice to have, especially in pvp, but I can live without. Scope of damage: Preferring single target Favourite SW character: If we're counting people in Expanded Universe, Thrawn and Mara Jade. From movies, I'll probably have to go with Obi-Wan. Prior MMO experience/liked class(es)/etc: No prior MMO experience. You, otoh, I can sort out directly. As was mentioned, the Operative is not a bad choice, but it seems that you want something else. This is visible from your favourite characters and the tree I'll suggest is more force attuned anyhow. You'll get two as well. First is Imperial Agent-Operative-Concealment. This is a nice medium armoured class that I DETEST because of the very same reason you like it. Knives. It has offhealing to boot and is sth that'd come up First to someone. Not me though. And I think you are looking for this: Sith Warrior-Sith Marauder-Carnage. Your liking of Mara and Obi go hand in hand with Ataru(Mara used it and Obi started with it, don't forget that Qui swore by it) specced Carnage, you get Medium armour, burst and some of nicest buffs in the game. Try those two.
UdristeAlexandru
Ok. Let's see. I'll suggest two classes. Because two classes fit, but one way better. Before I say anything, how do you feel on a Sent and Sin? After you answer, you'll have these suggestions. Leave that Warrior blank tho(without AC). Well, here it goes. On Sent(lvl 37)(combat) : First thing I noticed - i suck at PVP with it. At PVE i finished the first chapter of story line without problems, but around lvl 30 i started to make more research regarding the rotation, because on a long run in a fight the surv is pretty low. Now after the first mission of chapter two (some expert moobs) i died at one of them due to 3 sec delay in the rotation which really showed me that maybe i should re-spec to another tree, but the combat one is the one i like most.... On Sin (lvl26) (deception) : All the aspects until now are so fine that i can't believe what i saw on sith forums that deception is not good for lvling. I don't have any problems neither in PVE or PVP , mostly due to the fact that i use my companion as a tank. I notice that if I tend to go before my companion i loose very fast health points, but still i have time for the ultra defensive skills and i can avoid death with half of my HP all the times. As for PVP i was able to get kills even when i joined at lvl 10, i still wonder if later in the game i will reach to a block as it happened with the Sent, that's the reason i started the other 3 chars, but i really would like to know on which of this 5 to concentrate mostly in order to have a better game experience. Seireeni
Thanks for your suggestions. ^^ I actually have a level 16 concealment operative AND a level 55 scrapper scoundrel, but I leveled that scoundrel as a healer until level 45 or so, which lead to me creating a concealment operative just to get the "level experience" with this spec, too. Should be fun, then. ^^ I actually also have, no carnage marauder, but a combat sentinel that hit level 55 just last week. I'm not too fond of the randomness of the procs, but if everything does go right, you can do some serious damage in pvp with that spec. I've been wondering which skill tree I should use on my Pot5 marauder toon, and based on this (and my experiences with a combat sentinel), I think I should at least try carnage... Especially since rage is getting nerfed. Though, I have to admit, I was a little surprised to get marauder from this, since I've always favoured inquisitors/consulars and agents/smugglers over warriors/knights. Sith Warrior-Sith Jugg-Vengeance or Immortality is your First choice. Quite predictable to boot. Bounty Hunter-Mercenary-Arsenal or Bodyguard is your second choice. By recommending those two I covered all the possibilities that you might like. Try them. One is for healing days and the other is for Tank days while keeping the DPS focus(main trees being Venge and Arsenal). Enjoy! And leveling with Assassin is easy as fk. I use Darkness and me and Dashade are well, unstoppable. Just a split of damage and nothing's impossible. I guess that could be said of Deception as well. Dash is awesome .
