Legacy Gear drops question

I have an inherited trooper rifle lvl 15 that just sits around being useless. My question is, with legacy gear drops they are random? So the only way to get birthright gear or various other pieces that are not useless is to roll alts? Seems quite a bit arduious.

I do love me some storylines, though.
Wild speculation on forums? When does that happen? The Harbinger - Fumanshu Legacy

I've gotten a couple birthright drops doing 55 dailies.

I've never really found the birthright gear to be useful. I may have used one piece once for a short period of time, but it's so much easier to just send legacy gear to alts and keep them geared with mods from planetary coms.

The worst of the worst is getting them in damn artifact cases. That mess is in the way.

The Birthright gear is sadly a relic of a bygone era. Now it is much easier to get a moddable piece of gear and buy mods for unified planetary commendations and send them via mail to whatever character you need to equip while leveling...
