Being bad

Is it just me, but does anyone else get into a rut of bad play, and particularly after having bad play around you? I just realized what I was doing and logged off.

Started off PvPing after really not participating in the game much at all for the past month or more and was on my scoundrel. I started off rusty and was already kind of playing around with what I could do toward objectives and not really going for damage or kills.

Played out like this. Scored 2 in Hutt Ball but should have been 3 except I hit my in combat stealth rather than my roll right at the goal line once. :o Still won that, and won a Voidstar and was doing pretty well.

Then had an NC and I was just rolling all over the place. Capped a node about 3 different times and was often the load defender for extended periods of times taking 2 v 1s to do so, out of stealth often due to being there long enough, I just couldn't stay stealthed any longer and usually losing the other node where my team was before losing mine. Still, we lost by like 10 or something real close. I'll admit to not played great up to this point but I do think I was doing a lot of good on the objectives at least.

Then I got into an AH. I see 3 teammates going one way, 4 going the "home" node at the start. Ears are up, ready for it to go badly. Well, a guardian goes to cap our home node and I start watching him, not really liking him standing right on top of it, I go and guard. My team is getting its *** kicked all over the place and the guardian sees me guarding, and heads in to join to be killed within 10 seconds then the gates drop and they all come running around to the mid again, except the guardian who heads back to guard the node. I set him as my focus and go to see whats going on in mid.

Mid turns out to be completely empty. Apparently another stealth teammate tried to ninja. The rest of my team all grab the orbs, but then stand there with them. 15 seconds left at this point so I figure they see there is no time. I head up to the side to get out as the enemy heads toward mid and thats when I think I had shut down.

I just waited until they all got in and watched. Just picked my target, and Operative healer, and I go in and get the kill while his team was looking the other way. From there, I was just going for kills or to just do something stupid so I try ninja caps and whatever.

Someone actually said "Are we going to get organized at some point." To which I replied "Probably not." That was the point I realized I just embraced being bad and just doing my own thing, so I logged.

TL;DR. I was a bad. Happen to anyone else?

It happens. There are some games when I am playing like a pro and others where I looked like I just stepped off the short bus. The nature of the beast I guess lol.

It was all at once today. Was bad yet pretty sure I was irritating to the other teams.

True. I can understand that. It's just like in that other MMO called Real Life. You have good days and you have bad days. Like I said, it happens. At least you are man (or woman) enough to admit it. Most people on these forums would swear that they are superstars 24/7 lol.

Most often to me in Huttball. I really do try to play HB, and not deathmatch - but after a while you realize that you can't actually play the game if no one else is, and then I just give in and join the crowd in deathmatching while the other team rolls over us. On the plus side, it's a lot less stressful to give in to the bad, because you stop caring whether or not you win. :D

On the other maps I try to switch it to a learning experience for me. I do "node guard training" - AKA - I pick a fight and see how long I can last against how many. Or I'll try to ninja one of their nodes for laughs. :)

Yeah. For the past (almost) month, I've been playing this entertaining FPS.

Then I come back to queue a bit on my concealment op (last classes I was really used to playing was APtech and Decep so it'd been a long time since I touched my operative). Garbage.

This guy was 1v1ing in NC off the east node I was guarding. The enemy ended up barely escaping. It took my too long to realize he was coming over here for the health pack on the rock. He got away. :/

My FPS was like 20, so its not like I could maintain situational awareness.

That FPS game had defaulted my mind to my original mouse sensitivity, so I really couldn't maintain situational awareness.

I messed up all sorts of keybinds (the only one that had any affect was to Sever their Tendon when speeding, even then I have roll so doesn't matter).

Well we won because they sent their smash monkey away from East so I sort of capped it slowly. I lagged so hard, that through the 18 seconds, I almost capped it. I didn't even fully cap it like wat?

yeah happens to me, I have great days, at one point I even made 20 medals and got 5 mvp's, and then the next day I am at the bottom screwing up horribly and making rookie mistakes, just life I guess. Edited by Sangrar

Yep, just plain off some days. Not bad bad, just off my game or not in the mood. Typically I go find something else to do rather than say " *** ?" to myself every 10 seconds. :rak_09: I definitely do if I'm getting queued repeatedly with terrible teams on top of it.

This weekend I was off my game a bit, and in a reg AH doing the dailies. I asked in ops why 5-6 ran from mid and stayed there. I was told someone got an orb (true) and they needed to escort him (da hell?). Because a sin tried to ninja once they thought escort duty and all guarding each round made sense. Meanwhile imps ran mid and lol'd orbs. I ejected early and logged in search of better entertainment.

Totally happens to me when I'm in a bad mood. In fact, being bad in PvP is a great indicator that I should probably do something else - like something having to do with sports, because being pissed off helps in working out.

You might be on to something. The day I felt like I was bad, I was kind of forcing myself into it and was not really in the mood. Was bored more than anything.

Yesterday when I did well; I had been watching football; my favorite team won, and I had quite a few beers in me. Not Bud or Coors or crap like that. Some nice craft beers that were a bit stronger. Maybe I just think I was doing good.

Yeah it's defiantly a mood/frame of mind thing for me as well.

I notice the same things, get on a few bad teams (not blaming them, I'm responsible for my own play) and start picking up bad habits. Conversely I've felt having good teammates around me ups my game as well. It's like a ripple effect. You see 3-4 others, probably in a premade, all coordinating well together you want in on that and help where you can. When I'm on crappy teams I try and do too much to over compensate and end up making more mistakes than if I just played my game.

What I find irritating is that everybody has become an apologist of playing bad - "it happens" - meanwhile others state that "BADS ARE THE BANE OF PVP !!!!111eleven".

I just cannot understand why some people outright downplay bad play with saying things like "well, it happens"

meanwhile others (or the same ones ?) go ballistic when they meet "bads" in the game.

To me, this is like measuring with 2 sets of scales.

Not really. One refers to making mistakes or diminished performance compared to one's own normal bar, and is a temporary condition.

The other is an overall approach, or more accurately a lack thereof, and implies consistency.

I'd like to add 'self awareness' of being bad vs being oblivious to it.
