Luke's Poem

On the sands of Tantooine,

Grew the boy whose heart was drifting;

Young Skywalker, moving shifting,

Dreamed of conflict never ending;

Wish to leave and join his friends there,

Leave the sand dunes ever shifting.

Came to him, two droids from nowhere,

Came by Jawa, came by transport;

Bought by moisture farmer Owen,

Step Brother of Skywalker’s father;

Ordered Luke to clean them quickly,

Clean them up then come to supper.

Once inside he cleaned them surely,

Asked their names asked how they came here;

Talked of the Alliance, 3PO did,

Told him of his former master;

Said he failed at telling stories,

He referred to Luke as master.

Luke was cleaning R2-D2,

Accidentally played a message;

Played a message from a princess.

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi”,

“You’re my only hope”, she pleaded;

Desperate and scared, she pleaded,

Though the message looped endlessly;

“Who is she?” asked young Skywalker,

He stared and listened quite intently.

Coming back from supper angry,

His uncle always holding tightly;

Wanted to fly with his friends a year early,

Wanted to be a pilot and Hero;

Found the shop dark and quiet,

Early he left to look for R2,

Went to search sand dunes for him;

Searched the sand dunes in his speeder,

Found him deep inside the wasteland;

Saw the Banthas looked for Tuskens,

They had traveled round behind him.

Ben Kenobi scared the Tuskens,

Saved the life of young Skywalker;

Saw the message from the princess,

Told young Luke about his father,

Gave to him his father’s saber,

Asked he come to Alderaan.

Found his Aunt and Uncle murdered,

Storm troopers had scorched their bodies,

Nothing more here left for him.

The four, they traveled to Mos Eisley,

Found a Wookie called Chewbacca,

Met a smuggler named Han Solo;

Struck a deal to leave the planet,

Seventeen thousand credits payment,

Two thousand now and 15 later.

Millennium Falcon, cargo vessel,

Took the six from Tantooine;

The heading, planet Alderaan.

Arrived, the Falcon, at location,

Found the planet decimated,

Alderaan, completely blown away;

Flown over by a short range fighter,

Tried to jam the fleeing fighter,

Tried to jam to no avail.

Followed the small craft toward a moon,

Ben’s eyes spied a frightful occasion,

“That’s no moon, it’s a space station”;

Too big to be a station said Solo,

A tractor beam then seized the freighter,

They would find the truth out soon.

Pulled inside, they fought restriction,

Kenobi left to release the field;

Found the princess in detention,

A maiden fair and strong of will,

Fled into a large compactor,

Slid there to escape their capture.

Kenobi, after completing his task,

Came upon his former learner;

Vader drew his crimson saber,

Now a master, no longer a child,

His hatred hid behind his mask,

Continued the battle with his rival.

Heading for the ship, the six were,

When Luke saw his friend and mentor;

Saw him too, his friend Kenobi,

Dropped his guard and brought the ending;

Vader had his chance and killed him,

Ben Kenobi was no more.

Left the Death Star, filled with sadness,

The six continued on their quest;

Luke was safe but found no rest.

Continued on to planet Yavin,

Found a ship and then to battle;

Down the trench, destroyed the station,

Returned from a successful mission;

Awards received at battle’s end

This hero’s tale had just begun.
