Can you really make much credits out of selling CM items anyway? I mean, I bought two hypercrates (48 packs in totally, I believe) and have made around 400k from selling the unwanted items . . . I could probably make that much in a day running dailies with my end-game characters. From all the CM gear I have sold since the CM came out, I have made at most 3.5 million credits, I would say (All of which I spent trying to get the items that I wanted but didn't drop from the CM packs!).

Whenever I see an argument about 'P2W' I cant help feeling that said players are simply using that word as a weapon. They dislike the CM so much that they have to degrade it by saying it is taking away the soul of the game, which is simply not true.

Unopened the packs sell for 300-500k depending current stock and demand, so 48 packs is anywhere between 14 and 24 million

Every time i see one of these posts i begin to think that mass genocide is not really such a bad thing. The tree of intellect must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of the ignorant and stupid.

/Agree with this assessment as it fits the meme in the player base. Sure there are a few conflation specialists in the forum that think the CM is P2W...but they are a small minority and are trying to redefine the meme.

The majority of this activity though is people flipping CM items on the GTN.. not buyingCM ---> SellingGTN. And GTN flipping has been going on since launch. Sure.. there is some of this CM ---> GTN converting.. but it's an inefficient way to accumulate wealth in game. It's fine for perhaps jump starting an account with some seed funding..but that's about the efficient limit of it. A smart GTN shopper can make 5M+ a week just casually flipping CM content on the market (because there is so much undercutting and under-listing of CM items in the GTN.

The most important aspect of all of this though is that the CM in no way inflates the in game credit supply. With all the buying and selling on the GTN.. it's actually modestly removing 6% of ever sale in credits out of the economy. Some people insist the CM somehow injects credits into the economy.. but it does not. I simply moves the credits from one person to the other (like every GTN transaction) while extracting a 6% transaction fee.

I think there's a massive disconnect here with some people.
P2W is defined within its own wording.
You pay real money to get the best gear to win at everything (Namely PvP)
Buying CM items and selling them on the GTN isn't P2W. It's just more gambling.
Considering that you don't need to buy the CM items to sell on the GTN to make loads of money also invalidates the claim of P2W. And like it has been stated, you can buy top tier -1 off the GTN, using credits, not money.
When ever I look on the Cartel Market, I pretty much see cosmetic item sets or item sets meant to make leveling easier.
The crystals might be pushing it, but you can still get them other ways very easily.
However, you still need to run Hard Modes and whateverishigherifthereisone Mode to get the best gear in the game.
So, I can't see how this game is P2W since, inherently, you can't get the best PvE gear without raiding and you can't get PvP gear at all without doing PvP. (Or crafting)

I think the debate about P2W is somewhat pointless.. No, you can't obtain gear with stats for paying real money..

That being said, they are skirting the topic by requiring that real money be spent to obtain certain fluff items.. Like mounts, orange gear sets, and other stuff..

The packs can be purchased on the GTN.. The packs purchased on the GTN do give rep.. They do not however give the cartel certificates.. Which is the issue I feel.. We have to purchase cartel packs off the cartel market to get those certificates.. The certificates are bound to legacy and can't be sold on the GTN..

Now, there is a number of ways that Bioware can fix this for subscribers..

Allow a means to turn credits into cartel coins.. Something like 5k credits equals 1 cartel coin or something.. They can also give large discounts on the packs for subscribers.. It is bad enough they intend for us to spend our coins on the Cathar, a barber shop Kiosk, and the list goes on.. I am sorry.. I just find that my allowance of cartel coins doesn't go far enough.. I buy two packs and I am broke.. It will take me 3 months to acquire the certificates to buy some items.. I will have no cartel coins for other stuff..

They could also allow give some cartel coins as a reward for doing dailies, flash points, warzones, ranked warzones, weeklies, Ops, or long quest chains.. (This would be for subscribers only..) There is a lot of things they could do.. I would sure be nice to be able get this stuff by playing the game and not using a credit card..
Who is the more foolish? The fool or the fool that follows him?

P2W implyes that the most you pay, the most advantages you have over other people.

In SWTOR you only can get skins and robes for your character. All the mods and high end gear are ingame.

At this point I'm almost willing to bet OP is a troll...or just lacking vision? XD
This game isn't P2W. End of story.

These newbs dont know what P2W is....they've been playing maple story and other 0 initial investment mmo's.

Regardless of how you knuckleheads spread the butter, the truth remains.

This game is not a strictly F2P game, so the definition of P2W is altered slightly. P2W is paying RL money for ANY advancement in game.

Any other definitions of P2W belong in facebook games and other non subscription based mmo's.
