So.. you are still digging in with your statement that EAs fiscal calendar is the same as all other companies (which is is not) AND matches the Gregorian calendar quarters we all use to run our personal calendars (which it does not)?

Odd... because there is nothing Gregorian calendar appropriate to a Q4-2013 Earnings being released on May 7, 2013

But hey.. you keep on trying there fella.

It's not that unusual. Literally every thread I have read on on the WoW forums has had at least one person saying "This game is nearly dead" or "this game has already died". To which I lol'd. I've been seeing that for years.

Hehe.. yeah.. pretty much.

It's like an invitation to come into the forum and play with them.

If such players actually posted constructive criticism in such threads, then I would be inclined to believe that. Constructive criticism is important in any game. However, most of these 'game is dying!' threads seen to be far from constructive and only seem to be done for attention or most likely to vent anger at personal issues they have with the game.

granted if there has been a steady rise of income, subscriptions, and new accounts, as been suggested here, then the developers are probably quite happy with the current direction of their game. i would question the sources of that information. only bioware knows what their analytics reveal, and if those numbers are bad, they will try to spin them or only report positive data or just stay quiet.
The information came directly from EA, as far as I am aware. I dont see why you seem to be suggesting that BW could be lying about the numbers or hiding them. I mean, what evidence do you have to suggest they could even be doing that? The sate of the game should only really be discussed using evidence and facts, rather then guesses and pessimism.

I remember seeing those threads when I first started playing WoW . . . and that was when it was first released in the UK back in 2005!

i'm not sure what you're saying. EA's fiscal year starts April 1st. that was clearly stated in my post. if you have a calendar handy, of the common gregorian style, and turn it to april 1st, that's when their fiscal year starts.

the may 7th release was for the quarter ending on march 31. it says that in the first bit of the report. in fact, in the 4th quarter report you mention from may, it states "fiscal year ended March 31, 2013." the previous report, released on jan 30, was for the fiscal quarter ending dec. 31 (3rd quarter). they all say, in the top line at the start, the ending date of the fiscal quarter they are referring to. all dates coincide with dates popular on calendars everywhere.

whether they start their fiscal year in january or april or may, it's still the same calendar, is it not? different companies can pick different start dates for their fiscal year if they want. if a public corporation is required by the SEC to release quarterly reports, then a quarter is 3 months. a quarter, being 1/4, has to be one-fourth of a year. same with the sort of quarter you spend; it's one fourth of a dollar. a quarter in football is 1/4 the game. hockey does not have quarters because they are split in three. they call them 'periods.'

nothing in this post has any relevance to anything with the game. there hasn't been much recent information regarding subscription numbers, f2p accounts, or financial information, unless you want to consider the report from the first quarter, released july 31 of last year, referring to the quarter ending june 30, to be recent. i think there was a dev post more recent than that, but i don't know the date and don't want to look it up. still old, unless you think it's not old.

I agree. PR and Marketing Departments "spin" because that's their job to put the company and its products in a favorable light, but an SEC filing for a publicly held company? If you lie or mislead on one of those that's asking for jail time, not to mention the wrath of angry shareholders. They are told what they can say and how they can say it, and if their words are "estimates" they must use phrases such as "These are forward looking statements." Company officers can't even sell a share of stock without notifying the government in advance.

Our problem here, as players, is that we have very little solid factual information to go on, so rather than admit we don't know, people make stuff up. Post after post here contain declarative statements that have no basis in fact whatsoever.

Well it's obviously not second WOW as EA hoped it would be, but with the F2P transition and Cartel Market introduction, the revenue increased enough that it's once again regularly mentioned as one of the main contributors to digital revenue in EA financial reports. So yeah, at least for now, it's doing good. EA even made Bioware responsible for all future MMO developement at the company recently.

this should be a credible transcript of the earnings call that was associated with the 4th quarter report, released may 7 as mentioned above.

http://files.shareholder.com/downloa...ript_FINAL.pdf

the earnings call is kind of a place where people can ask questions. sort of. i don't think they would take my questions regarding server transfers in this setting...

this is the prepared statement before the call, which has been posted before.
http://files.shareholder.com/downloa...ript_FINAL.pdf

i see this in that report:
Quote:
Second, extra content and free-to-play contributed $ 224 million, up 45%, led by sustained growth in FIFA Ultimate Team, and solid results from Star Wars: The Old Republic and Bejeweled Blitz.
the press said some stuff. jeff hickmann probably said some stuff. i don't know, but comparing this game to bejeweled blitz is not a big compliment.

Yeah. This game died and had a fork put into it 18 months ago according to many forum posts back in the day. And every month since then. The only things that change are the nomadic transients making the thread posts. They come and go.. but the game lives on and prospers.

What the average forum members really means when they say "game is dead" or "game is dying" is that they personally don't like the game or have been told by others that the game is dead or dying. So we have a combination of opinion and sheeple that will continue to publish game dead threads forever. And not just this MMO, every MMO.

This is not however to say that said thread are not sometimes entertaining and worthy of some hosing down with electrons on the internetz.

OP, when they announce the shut down of the game.. THEN it's actually dead.
