So huzzah cooperation. Sorry about that.
No worries. It's happened to me before.

I do know there are some issues for some people and BW has done some things to improve these things. Obviously not solving everything for everyone.

As others stated though this thread was originally about comparing WoW and SWTOR fps, which is rather silly in my view as there is a decade between them and you would expect the older game to produce better fps as the game's graphics would logically be less demanding.

So this is my attempt to bring things back on topic

I think it has a lot to do with the Internet provider and how many lines our connection goes through coming from Bioware's main system and then going through the Servers and then how many connections it goes through to your local Provider and then the lines from them to your home connection. That will wreak havoc on any game. When I lived in Austin dealing with Time Warner my Internet quality was bad. Not sure if Bioware's programming goes thru the same lines as Time Warner but that could be an existing problem.

I believe you can agree on that.

I could compare it to GW2 or something but meh.
ye time between the game releases is insane, i think atm we cant even compare gw2 with this game there diffrent styles, pvp game vs pve game etc .
Swtor made a poor choice with the engine wich is a fact, the only real point that showed me that was ilum release were 50 vs 50 was almost impossible to do. but when im on the fleet i dont have issues when i run 16man ops i dont have issues ( even when the grp is sorc heavy ) i dont have the best comp out there but not the worst either, im suprised that ppl with better comps then mine have issues and im wondering issnt the problem at there end then, to much crap on there machine or to much programs running unnessacery, i dont know.

But wow have the same problems, they have that massive scaled battles sometimes alliance attacks ogrimar with a large grp and the game starts to stutter etc both games have there pros and cons it all comes down to what the individual persons likes, you want fanatsy ocres dwarves etc or do you want scifi jedi and sith

It is odd that some people have problems with their FPS rate. When the game first came out I had this mental and eye-bending stutter in the game, by which I mean I'd move forward a few steps and pause for less than a second, move forward and pause for less than a second. Drove me mad. I tried everything I could think of and ended up reinstalling Windows. Downloaded the game again and it wasn't there any more. I put it down to something on my PC. It ran the game, without shadows, at a respectable 30+ FPS.

Since then I've upgraded from a processor which ran at a jaunty 2.6Ghz, to a processor that runs at 3.5, and the difference was amazing. Using the same GFX card (an AMD 6970) I went from 30+ to 60+ in all areas with all GFX options on, name plates and all. I can run 16 man ops with the same 60+ frame rate. If I gather in places with lots of others, my FPS remains consistently above 40+ and I experience no rubberbanding, no lag, etc.

It's tricky to determine where the issues some people have are coming from. It would seem that the engine performs worse on some systems. It does however perform very well on some systems.

I guess that if everyone that has no problem with the way the game runs on their systems posted up topics, they'd outnumber the people that do have problems.

IOW - clearly there is an issue because people suffer frame rate drops. It would be great if BW could fix those issues. I think, sadly, it's very difficult for them to "fix" things so they work well on every PC configuration.

On my SSD sits 4 MMOs - WoW, SWTOR, LOTRO and Eve.

Lotro has always been the worse of the performers. The engine just cannot take the textures. For raids, in particular pvp raids the graphics get dropped down to minimum in order to reduce movement lag.

As a comparison the others are fine - have never had to change settings, even raids.

Best visuals for an MMO has to be The Secret World, with Eve a close second.

You want to know the real (and only) reason why WoW "still" destroys SW:TOR? (and any other MMO out there basically)

Visuals for Rift are pretty good as well. Gameplay and story is meh, but it is a sharp looking game.

Out of all of the MMOs I've played (which is quite a bunch), SWTOR is the only one where I've had to spend significant amounts of time tweaking the game to run at a decent frame rate while looking good. During beta, I built an i7, SSD, Nvidia SLI system. After a combination of SWTOR Unleashed, Nvidia profile tweaks, and manual edits to the SWTOR ini, I managed to get the game running smoothly -and- look good.

I just wish there was a way to disable the damned texture atlas "feature" they have running in the engine. I'm sick and tired of having a large amount of resources available, but the engine decides to dynamically load low res textures based on what seems to be a random set of variables.

That said, of course Blizzard's ten plus year old engine is going to be better optimized than BW's three year old Hero derivative. They've had more time and infinitely more resources to do so. That and the Hero engine is meh. There is a reason other AAA titles (like ESO) dropped it.

I don't get terrible FPS, except on fleet then it isn't that bad and can be handled. The only time I get bad FPS is when my lappy gets unplugged and I don't know it.

As far as graphics, no comparison in my opinion. WOW does not compare with SWTOR. Hook your computer up to a HDTV and you will see. SWTOR has excellent graphics and I identify with my characters so much more in TOR than I do any other game, WOW included.
