Evidence of Player Houses? | 08.30.2009 , 08:00 PM
Let me preface this thread by stating that I absolutely hope they have housing in the game in some form. Whether it be traditional non-instance houses, Spaceship housing, or limited city style housing. With that being said, I'm always on the lookout for any news regarding the subject.

Bioware has been pretty amazing at keeping secrets from us, so all we have is speculation. However, they do seem to like dropping hints periodically and laugh at us all scratching our heads trying to figure them out. On that note, here is some interesting pics that may hint at actual player housing.

First:

This is a picture of one of the Hutta houses. A starter planet no less!

1. Offering protection from the harsh environment, this dwelling provides safe living quarters for those unfortunate enough to call Hutta “home”.

2. Biggest evidence in my opinon. Why bother with making complete housing if they were to only serve as decoration in the landscape?

Second:

This is a picture of a Tython house. Also, another starter planet!

1. Local settlers have set up a small village on Tython.

2. You can see they have in interiors through the open doors.

3. Could this be the interior of the Tython house, or some other!?

What is being said doesn't always jive with the truth of what is being shown.

I'd love player housing, but those buildings could be simple quest hubs or NPC quarters.

Or even just empty buildings to provide atmosphere.

However, I'd love player housing, both on planets, and more importantly, in your own ship.

Quest hubs are a possibility, but they wouldn't waste time on npc quarters that served no purpose.

Why wouldn't they? Most mmos that I'm aware of have plenty of buildings that are there for show, or looks. The best ones leave them open to player ingenuity and guild run events and the like.

I believe player housing would be a great feature for this game. It was one of the few things SWG got right and would help set SWOTR apart of the monster WOW.

And if you think about most of Bioware's games have some form of player base that acts as a hub for your character like the Ebon Hawk in KOTOR and the Normandy in Mass Effect.

Now the question is if they have player housing will it be instanced or part of open game environment?

Most likely it would be instanced which I could live with, but if it is, it would be wonderful if you could invite other players to see your home.

Here's the problem with instance housing. Other than storage, or a place to show to your friends with access. You really can't show off your cool/rare items. If you wanted everyone to be able to enter and check out your cool deco, or vendors (if they have that), instancing wouldn't easily allow for it.
