This may not be the most important thing on the agenda, I know, but I have to ask:

Why do you folks switch constantly between using GMT and UTC in your posts? Choose one and stick to it (UTC of course even if I'd prefer seeing the posts with Central European Time Code CET)

As time was invented here, I vote we stick to GMT

There can be all of 0.9 seconds difference between UTC and GMT, I really wouldn't want to miss 0.9 seconds of double xp, it would ruin my life

Don't they post GMT when it is equivalent to UTC, and UTC when it isn't?

Idk, I almost always see times posted in GMT which I think is perfect. Everyone should know their +/- GMT.

They should just stick to posting in local (Austin) time and stop trying to please everyone because they're never going to succeed.

GMT the vast majority of people (the confusion highlighted when they use UTC on the forum highlights this) just says that this is the basis to use.

Regardless of what you think about people getting confused over UTC/GMT they should use the one that the vast majority of the forum base will understand (be it UTC or GMT

It takes them 2 weeks to determine what the time is in UTC due to all the sheer amount of data coming from all the atomic clocks in the world. I for one dont want to wait 2 weeks to find out the time, just because I wont know when its been two weeks.

Hi Tuborg,

To answer your question, in recent months, we've made modifications to simply the maintenance messaging overall. We did this to ensure accuracy and brevity.

First, we went from the long messaging that we used after launch to the more simplified messaging that gives the details needed without the fluff. When we made this change initially, we simplified the English version to only list times in PDT (West Coat US) and GMT (rather than 3 US, 2 EU, and an AU). We originally used GMT, because we assumed like some of you that more players would know this time zone when comparing to their own if they were elsewhere in the world.

Then, when Daylight Savings Time rolled around we encountered a problem. Many folks who were previously in GMT had their times switch to IST or BST officially, when the times were posted in the correct GMT, there was an outcry from folks either saying we posted incorrect times. The next maintenance, we posted in BST, which drew as much or more confusion, especially from folks who are used to converting from UTC (when it lines up with GMT).

Therefore, because UTC is an international standard that (importantly!) does not change with Daylight Savings time and is most fair to people that are all over Europe and Australia in many many zones, it will be the time zone that we use from now on when posting maintenance. If any confusion arises, we will clarify as needed. Since we have no plans to change this, most players will become used to the conversion that's correct for them.

Hopefully this clarifies our reasoning and why there were some changes made in quick succession. Have an awesome Double XP Weekend!
