Trooper is the class. Vanguard and Commando are just offshoots from the actual class itself. If they were different classes, they'd have a different story line, starship, etc.

I really don't see the issue with a paid AC switch from one of those sub-classes to the other. The only problem really would be gear. Like if someone switched from a Heavy Armor wearer to a Medium Armor wearing AC (Guardian/Juggernaut to Sentinel/Marauder). Comparing the Advanced Classes of a single class to completely different classes (Warrior, Paladin, Death Knight) makes no sense. If it helps, think of this whole concept like one big re-spec.

I believe ACs are separate classes. I also believe that what other games allow, or what the game was designed for means nothing.

I do not want AC change because I hate the idea of ACs in the first place...a lousy way, IMO, to provide diversity where none exists. It's one of the worst designs I have ever seen (not the worst, but up there)...badly designed, VERY badly designed and then haphazardly implemented.

I want my AC to mean something. I realize that bad design makes that difficult, but it's not impossible IMO. Allowing AC change would further demean an already almost meaningless choice.

So, to me it doesn't matter whether or not they think it's a class....they could think it's a turnip for all I care. I want AC to be a class, despite everything Bioware did with game design to try and prevent that.

I'm not playing WoW I'm playing SWTOR. I'm not asking for a Sith Warrior to be able to change to a Bounty Hunter or any other form of class change. WoW has no real story with regards classes as far as I recall (maybe one or two quests per class but nothing on the scale of SWTOR) and so doesn't have to worry about the additional sub-division. Not sure why WoW's way of doing things should be a valid argument for why SWTOR shouldn't do something.

Never played Rift. Not likely to. Unsure why Rifts mechanics should have any bearing on what happens to SWTOR.

I'm not asking to be able to mix and match classes. I'm certainly not asking to play a Republic Trooper with access to both Vanguard AND Commando abilities. But rather a Republic Trooper that can choose whether to employ their specialist (Advanced dare I say) training as a Vanguard OR Commando.
But you ARE asking for CLASS CHANGES, no matter how limited. Unless you were suddenly appointed lead designer, your OPINION that AC's are the same class would take a backseat to that of the devs, and the devs say the AC's are different classes. It even says it in the name advanced CLASS, not advanced SPEC. That makes an AC change a CLASS change.

And I think it is class change, but that is not bad for the reasons most would think.

In this game AC is not a class as designed or implemented...but it is SUPPOSED to be. It is so poorly designed it is barely discernible from other "ACs" in completely different class lines.

However I believe it was INTENDED to be a true full blown class, and because they dropped the ball they have invited this kind of silly speculation.

But again, that is irrelevant. Because of bad design the door is now open...I suggest they improve the design, I want ACs to be separate, real, meaningful classes....not even less relevant, which in my opinion is what would happen if change is allowed.

It is a purely selfish desire I admit....and again, if the majority wanted change I would accept it. I don't think that is the case, but then again there is no way for me to know that.

I do think most folks see them as classes, and would not be happy if the change was allowed...and that is my biggest concern.
