Screwed over by Bioware!

This is the reason I contact customer service not once, but twice and then even had a chat with one of them after that, asking very carefully and explaining extremely thoroughly in crystal clear, perfect English... only to have my suspicions confirmed and a casual "oops, our bad" from the customer service representative.

Yeah, it seems they overlooked a bunch of names during the launch-phase of the game. I was actually told by Bioware that even though the name Bane was part of the SW lore, I would get to keep it since I created my character before it was on the prohibited list. And just like you, that was the only name I got to keep after the first move, probably because it was added to the prohibited list pretty early on and nobody took it on the other servers (or they weren't even level 20 or actively subscribing or somesuch).

The reason I'm complaining about this now is that I've tried to accept all this crap and move on, but I no longer care about what happens as a result of me "oversharing" on the matter. Bioware has made some serious mistakes with their first entry into the world of MMO gaming, and I'm willing to forgive most of it... but not the loss of Bane.

As you say, why would they lie about it? They have nothing to gain by giving me misinformation that would lead me to lose the last name I cared about. But, their stupidity made it happen nontheless, and they couldn't even restore my character with the original name because their "tools" wouldn't allow it. You need to understand that I didn't just submit one ticket and get a response. I submitted a second ticket because I didn't quite believe the response I got to the first one since I couldn't create a character named Bane on any other server without getting the "invalid name" message. I finally got a customer server representative to talk to me in person, and I was told (after carefully explaining my concerns) that the name Bane would become available to ANYONE as soon as I deleted the character. Hell, I made a trial account on my second PC at the time just to pick up the name Bane the very second I deleted it from my primary. I had a character ready to go on my second PC, with the name Bane typed in and all I had to do was to press Enter (or next, or whatever)... and when I did (after having just deleted Bane from my primary) I got the message "invalid name" just as I expected... yet Bioware had assured me that wouldn't happen.

We all got screwed over by BW when all this crap was going on, but mostly during the first server merge. Like I said, if I had been stupid enough to stay on Bao-Dur, I would still have gotten a fair shake in regards to who got to keep the name Reaper between Nightmare Lands and The Red Eclipse... and that's all I'd ever ask.

As I've said in previous replies to people, I had a sneaking suspicion that Bane might just be part of the Star Wars lore.

The op should be mad at himself for not being original. Taking names that hundreds of other thought of too, then complaining when you can keep them is a little ridiculous. All my original well thought of names stayed, the ones many others probably thought of too got changed. Such is life.

So... you're upset that Customer Service told you that you'd be able to have the name that the Service Agreement said you couldn't have... and at the end of the day, you lost the name... that you weren't supposed to have in the first place.

And this makes you angry?
