So... you're upset that Customer Service told you that you'd be able to have the name that the Service Agreement said you couldn't have... and at the end of the day, you lost the name... that you weren't supposed to have in the first place.

And this makes you angry?

And just like you, that was the only name I got to keep after the first move, probably because it was added to the prohibited list pretty early on and nobody took it on the other servers (or they weren't even level 20 or actively subscribing or somesuch).
Yeah it was like the person that was in charge of deciding what names were prohibited didn't know anything about SW and just did a google search for the the 25 most popular Star Wars names and used that as their list, then someone with half a brain later on was like, yeah... we need to add every name from pop culture and anything ever mentioned in anything Star Wars related lol.

OP, you are defending a position the vast majority of us could careless about. I have had to rename. It happens. You got screwed, it happens. It's called life. Maybe I'm just good with words and names and can find tons of combinations and what have you that makes this forum post a total nerd rage lol.
Give it up and move on..... I mean, just read post after post after post. No one really cares BUT actually wishes you would just move on and find new names for your Barbie.. Get a Thesaurus or something

Bioware has made some serious mistakes with their first entry into the world of MMO gaming, and I'm willing to forgive most of it... but not the loss of Bane.

As you say, why would they lie about it? They have nothing to gain by giving me misinformation that would lead me to lose the last name I cared about. But, their stupidity made it happen nontheless, and they couldn't even restore my character with the original name because their "tools" wouldn't allow it. You need to understand that I didn't just submit one ticket and get a response. I submitted a second ticket because I didn't quite believe the response I got to the first one since I couldn't create a character named Bane on any other server without getting the "invalid name" message. I finally got a customer server representative to talk to me in person, and I was told (after carefully explaining my concerns) that the name Bane would become available to ANYONE as soon as I deleted the character. Hell, I made a trial account on my second PC at the time just to pick up the name Bane the very second I deleted it from my primary. I had a character ready to go on my second PC, with the name Bane typed in and all I had to do was to press Enter (or next, or whatever)... and when I did (after having just deleted Bane from my primary) I got the message "invalid name" just as I expected... yet Bioware had assured me that wouldn't happen.

We all got screwed over by BW when all this crap was going on, but mostly during the first server merge. Like I said, if I had been stupid enough to stay on Bao-Dur, I would still have gotten a fair shake in regards to who got to keep the name Reaper between Nightmare Lands and The Red Eclipse... and that's all I'd ever ask.
To paraphrase a popular fiction author: People will believe a lie because they are afraid it's true, or they want it to be true.

This would go for a mistake as well. I do not think the CSR lied to you. I think they were simply mistaken.

That said, in my opinion, you got "shafted" because you WANTED to believe the CSR. By your own admission you were doubtful regarding the first CSR's response. You had already tried to create the name Bane on other servers and got the "invalid name" response. You knew from your own experience that Bane was an invalid name. Why would any person believe that that name would be available on one server when it was invalid on several others. "Invalid name" is much different than "name not available". Despite your own doubts regarding the first CSR's response and the results of your own attempts to create a character with that name, you asked again in an apparent attempt to convince yourself of something you already knew to be untrue. You WANTED to believe it, in my opinion.

The same author also said something like: What is, IS. Upon that bedrock principle, all else is built. We are free to believe anything we want, but that does not change the truth of what IS. We can choose to ignore the canyon that runs across our path, but we cannot escape the consequences of walking into that canyon.

The op should be mad at himself for not being original. Taking names that hundreds of other thought of too, then complaining when you can keep them is a little rediculous. All my original well thought of names stayed, the ones many others probaly thought of too got changed. Such is life.
That's why they call it space, cause there is so much of it.

Bane is a violation of the terms of service, because it "infringes on any trademark or other proprietary rights of others." When you picked it, you risked BW forcing you to rename it at any time. And you are crying because after deleting a character with a name that violated the ToS, you were unable to create a new character that violated the ToS. Ok.

Did the CS person make a mistake? Yes. But it isn't some grand conspiracy designed to aggravate you and deny you names you are entitled to.

OMG! Thanks for the laugh.

EPIC!!!

Name one of your guys Epic, too. It might help if you just made up unique names rather than EPIC names. For me, your EPIC names are just common. Don't complain that you made common names that a ton of people, also without imaginations would want.

EPIC! Really?

epic Really.

Honestly I don't know how you are even allowed to keep Bane in the first place, since Darth Bane is a licenced character. It would just take one person who also wanted Bane to report you and you would have had to change the name anyway.
It's amazing how loud a dollar can be.

LOL agreed!! It's like naming a toon David & then being upset because it's not available on other servers after a transfer whether the transfer was forced or not.

Yes.

However, they didn't say I couldn't have it. They said I could keep it, even though it was an "invalid name". The reason I'm angry is that they told me it was safe to delete the character and then create a new character with the same name (as long as nobody else took the name between me deleting the old one and creating the new one), which obviously didn't work. Call it a lie or plain incompetence, the results are the same. If you've read this whole thread and you still don't get why I could possibly be angry, then there's just nothing more I can say to you except
"have a nice day."
